26:1  Ta Sin Mi
26:2  These are the verses of the Scripture that makes things clear
26:3  [Prophet], are you going to worry yourself to death because they will not believe
26:4  If We had wished, We could have sent them down a sign from heaven, at which their necks would stay bowed in utter humility
26:5  Whenever they are brought a new revelation from the Lord of Mercy, they turn away
26:6  they deny it, but the truth of what they scorned will soon hit them
26:7  Do they not see the earth, and what noble kinds of thing We grow in it
26:8  There truly is a sign in this, though most of them do not believe
26:9  your Lord alone is the Almighty, the Merciful
26:10  Your Lord called to Moses: ‘Go to those wrongdoers
26:11  the people of Pharaoh. Will they not take heed?’
26:12  Moses said, ‘My Lord, I fear they will call me a liar
26:13  and I will feel stressed and tongue-tied, so send Aaron too
26:14  besides, they have a chargeagainst me, and I fear they may kill me.’
26:15  God said, ‘No [they will not]. Go, both of you, with Our signs––We shall be with you, listen-ing
26:16  Go, both of you, to Pharaoh and say, “We bring a message from the Lord of the Worlds
26:17  let the Children of Israel leave with us.” ’
26:18  Pharaoh said, ‘Did we not bring you up as a child among us? Did you not stay with us for many years
26:19  And then you committed that crime of yours: you were so ungrateful.’
26:20  Moses replied, ‘I was misguided when I did i
26:21  and I fled from you in fear; later my Lord gave me wisdom and made me one of His messengers
26:22  And is this- that you have enslaved the Children of Israel- the favour with which you reproach me?’
26:23  Pharaoh asked, ‘What is this “Lord of the Worlds”?’
26:24  Moses replied, ‘He is the Lord of the heavens and earth and everything between them. If you would only have faith!’
26:25  Pharaoh said to those present, ‘Do you hear what he says?’
26:26  Moses said, ‘He is your Lord and the Lord of your forefathers.’
26:27  Pharaoh said, ‘This messenger who has been sent to you is truly possessed.’
26:28  Moses continued, ‘Lord of the East and West and everything between them. If you would only use your reason!’
26:29  But Pharaoh said [to him], ‘If you take any god other than me, I will throw you into prison,’
26:30  and Moses asked, ‘Even if I show you something convincing?’
26:31  ‘Show it then,’ said Pharaoh, ‘if you are telling the truth.’
26:32  So Moses threw down his staff and- lo and behold!- it became a snake for everyone to see
26:33  Then he drew out his hand and- lo and behold!- it was white for the onlookers to see
26:34  Pharaoh said to the counsellors around him, ‘This man is a learned sorcerer
26:35  He means to use his sorcery to drive you out of your land! What do you suggest?’
26:36  They answered, ‘Delay him and his brother for a while, and send messengers to all the citie
26:37  to bring every accomplished sorcerer to you.’
26:38  The sorcerers were [to be] assembled at the appointed time on a certain da
26:39  and the people were asked
26:40  ‘Are you all coming? We may follow the sorcerers if they win!’
26:41  When the sorcerers came, they said to Pharaoh, ‘Shall we be rewarded if we win?’
26:42  and he said, ‘Yes, and you will join my inner court.’
26:43  Moses said to them, ‘Throw down whatever you will.’
26:44  They threw their ropes and staffs, saying, ‘By Pharaoh’s might, we shall be victorious.’
26:45  But Moses threw his staff and- lo and behold!- it swallowed up their tricker
26:46  and the sorcerers fell down on their knees
26:47  exclaiming, ‘We believe in the Lord of the Worlds
26:48  the Lord of Moses and Aaron.’
26:49  Pharaoh said, ‘How dare you believe in him before I have given you permission? He must be the master who taught you sorcery! Soon you will see: I will cut off your alternate hands and feet and then crucify the lot of you!’
26:50  ‘That will do us no harm,’ they said, ‘for we are sure to return to our Lord
26:51  We hope that our Lord will forgive us our sins, as we were the first to believe.’
26:52  Then We revealed Our will to Moses, ‘Leave with My servants by night, for you will be pursued!’
26:53  Pharaoh sent messengers into the cities, proclaiming
26:54  ‘These people are a puny band––
26:55  they have enraged us
26:56  and we are a large army, on the alert.’
26:57  So it was that We made them leave their gardens and their springs
26:58  their treasures and their noble dwellings
26:59  We gave [such] things [later]to the Children of Israel
26:60  Pharaoh and his people pursued them at sunrise
26:61  and as soon as the two sides came within sight of one another, Moses’ followers said, ‘We shall definitely be caught.’
26:62  Moses said, ‘No, my Lord is with me: He will guide me,’
26:63  and We revealed to Moses: ‘Strike the sea with your staff.’ It parted- each side like a mighty mountain
26:64  and We brought the others to that place
26:65  We saved Moses and all his companions
26:66  and drowned the rest
26:67  There truly is a sign in this, though most of them do not believe
26:68  your Lord alone is the Almighty, the Merciful
26:69  Tell them the story of Abraham
26:70  when he asked his father and his people, ‘What do you worship?’
26:71  They said, ‘We worship idols, and are constantly in attendance on them.’
26:72  He asked, ‘Do they hear you when you call
26:73  Do they help or harm you?’
26:74  They replied, ‘No, but this is what we saw our fathers doing.’
26:75  Abraham said, ‘Those idols you have worshipped
26:76  you and your forefathers
26:77  are my enemies; not so the Lord of the Worlds
26:78  who created me. It is He who guides me
26:79  He who gives me food and drink
26:80  He who cures me when I am ill
26:81  He who will make me die and then give me life again
26:82  and He who will, I hope, forgive my faults on the Day of Judgement
26:83  My Lord, grant me wisdom; join me with the righteous
26:84  give me a good name among later generations
26:85  make me one of those given the Garden of Bliss
26:86  forgive my father, for he is one of those who have gone astray
26:87  and do not disgrace me on the Day when all people are resurrected
26:88  the Day when neither wealth nor children can help
26:89  when the only one who will be saved is the one who comes before God with a heart devoted to Him.’
26:90  When the Garden is brought near to the righteou
26:91  and the Fire is placed in full view of the misguided
26:92  it will be said to them, ‘Where are those you worshipped
26:93  beside God? Can they help you now, or even help themselves?’
26:94  and then they will all be hurled into Hell, together with those that misled them
26:95  and all Iblis’s supporters
26:96  There they will say to their gods, as they bicker among themselves
26:97  ‘We were clearly misguide
26:98  when we made you equal with the Lord of the Worlds
26:99  It was the evildoers who led us astray
26:100  and now we have no intercesso
26:101  and no true friend
26:102  If only we could live our lives again, we would be true believers!’
26:103  There truly is a sign in this, though most of them do not believe
26:104  your Lord alone is the Almighty, the Merciful
26:105  The people of Noah, too, called the messengers liars
26:106  Their brother Noah said to them, ‘Will you not be mindful of God
26:107  I am a faithful messenger sent to you
26:108  be mindful of God and obey me
26:109  I ask no reward of you, for my only reward is with the Lord of the Worlds
26:110  be mindful of God and obey me.’
26:111  They answered, ‘Why should we believe you when the worst sort of people follow you?’
26:112  He said, ‘What knowledge do I have of what they used to do
26:113  It is for my Lord alone to bring them to account- if only you could see
26:114  I will not drive believers away
26:115  I am here only to give people a clear warning.’
26:116  So they said, ‘Noah, if you do not stop this, you will be stoned.’
26:117  He said, ‘My Lord, my people have rejected me
26:118  so make a firm judgement between me and them, and save me and my believing followers.’
26:119  So We saved him and his followers in the fully laden ship
26:120  and drowned the rest
26:121  There truly is a sign in this, though most of them do not believe
26:122  your Lord alone is the Almighty, the Merciful
26:123  The people of Ad, too, called the messengers liars
26:124  Their brother Hud said to them, ‘Will you not be mindful of God
26:125  I am a faithful messenger sent to you
26:126  be mindful of God and obey me
26:127  I ask no reward of you, for my only reward is with the Lord of the Worlds
26:128  How can you be so vain that you set up monuments on every high place
26:129  Do you build fortresses because you hope to be immortal
26:130  Why do you act like tyrants whenever you attack someone
26:131  Be mindful of God and obey me
26:132  be mindful of Him who has provided you with everything you know
26:133  He has given you livestock, sons
26:134  gardens, springs
26:135  for I truly fear that the torment of a grievous day will overtake you.’
26:136  They replied, ‘It makes no difference to us whether you warn us or not
26:137  for we only do what our forefathers used to do
26:138  we shall not be punished.’
26:139  They denounced him as a liar, and so We destroyed them. There truly is a sign in this, though most of them do not believe
26:140  your Lord alone is the Almighty, the Merciful
26:141  The people of Thamud, too, called the messengers liars
26:142  Their brother Salih said to them, ‘Will you not be mindful of God
26:143  I am a faithful messenger to you
26:144  be mindful of God and obey me
26:145  I ask no reward from you, for my only reward is with the Lord of the Worlds
26:146  [Do you think] you will be left secure for ever in what you have here
26:147  gardens, springs
26:148  fields, palm trees laden with fruit
26:149  carving your fine houses from the mountains
26:150  Be mindful of God and obey me
26:151  do not obey those who are given to exces
26:152  and who spread corruption in the land instead of doing what is right.’
26:153  They said, ‘You are bewitched
26:154  You are nothing but a man like us. Show us a sign, if you are telling the truth.’
26:155  He said, ‘Here is a camel. She should have her turn to drink and so should you, each on a specified day
26:156  so do not harm her, or the punishment of a terrible day will befall you.’
26:157  But they hamstrung her. In the morning they had cause to regret it
26:158  the punishment fell upon them. There truly is a sign in this, though most of them will not believe
26:159  your Lord alone is the Almighty, the Merciful
26:160  The people of Lot, too, called the messengers liars
26:161  Their brother Lot said to them, ‘Will you not be mindful of God
26:162  I am a faithful messenger to you
26:163  be mindful of God and obey me
26:164  I ask no reward from you, for my only reward is with the Lord of the Worlds
26:165  Must you, unlike [other] people, lust after male
26:166  and abandon the wives that God has created for you? You are exceeding all bounds,’
26:167  but they replied, ‘Lot! If you do not stop this, you will be driven away.’
26:168  So he said, ‘I loathe what you do
26:169  Lord, save me and my family from what they are doing.’
26:170  We saved him and all his family
26:171  except for an old woman who stayed behind
26:172  then We destroyed the others
26:173  and poured a rain of destruction down upon them. How dreadful that rain was for those who had been forewarned
26:174  There truly is a sign in this, though most of them will not believe
26:175  your Lord alone is the Almighty, the Merciful
26:176  The forest-dwellers, too, called the messengers liars
26:177  Shuayb said to them, ‘Will you not be mindful of God
26:178  I am a faithful messenger to you
26:179  be mindful of God and obey me
26:180  I ask no reward of you, for my only reward is with the Lord of the Worlds
26:181  Give full measure: do not sell others short
26:182  Weigh with correct scales
26:183  do not deprive people of what is theirs. Do not spread corruption on earth
26:184  Be mindful of God who created you and former generations,’
26:185  but they replied, ‘You are bewitched
26:186  You are nothing but a man like us. In fact we think you are a liar
26:187  Make bits of the heavens fall down on us, if you are telling the truth.’
26:188  He said, ‘My Lord knows best what you do.’
26:189  They called him a liar, and so the torment of the Day of Shadow came upon them- it was the torment of a terrible day
26:190  There truly is a sign in this, though most of them will not believe
26:191  your Lord alone is the Almighty, the Merciful
26:192  Truly, this Quran has been sent down by the Lord of the Worlds
26:193  the Trustworthy Spirit brought it dow
26:194  to your heart [Prophet], so that you could bring warnin
26:195  in a clear Arabic tongue
26:196  This was foretold in the scriptures of earlier religions
26:197  Is it not proof enough for them that the learned men of the Children of Israel have recognized it
26:198  If We had sent it down to someone who was not an Arab
26:199  and he had recited it to them, they still would not have believed in it
26:200  So We make it pass straight through the hearts of the guilty
26:201  they will not believe in it until they see the grievous torment
26:202  which will suddenly hit them when they are not expecting it
26:203  and then they will say, ‘Can we have more time?’
26:204  How can they ask that Our punishment be brought to them sooner
26:205  Think, if we let them enjoy this life for some year
26:206  and then the promised torment came upon them
26:207  what good would their past enjoyment be to them
26:208  Never have We destroyed a town without sending down messengers to warn it
26:209  as a reminder from Us: We are never unjust
26:210  It was not the jinn who brought down this Quran
26:211  it is neither in their interests nor in their power
26:212  indeed they are prevented from overhearing it
26:213  So [Prophet] do not invoke any gods beside God, or you will incur punishment
26:214  Warn your nearest kinsfol
26:215  and lower your wing tenderly over the believers who follow you
26:216  If they disobey you, say, ‘I bear no responsibility for your actions.’
26:217  Put your trust in the Almighty, the Merciful
26:218  who sees you when you stand up [for prayer]
26:219  and sees your movements among the worshippers
26:220  He is the All Hearing, the All Knowing
26:221  Shall I tell you who the jinn come down to
26:222  They come down to every lying sinne
26:223  who readily lends an ear to them, and most of them are liars
26:224  only those who are lost in error follow the poets
26:225  Do you not see how they rove aimlessly in every valley
26:226  how they say what they do not do
26:227  Not so those [poets] who believe, do good deeds, remember God often, and defend themselves after they have been wronged. The evildoers will find out what they will return to
