21:1  For mankind their reckoning has drawn near but yet they are in obliviousness [about it] while they turn away from it out of disregard.
21:2  Nothing comes to them of renewed remembrance from their Lord but that they listen to it while they are sporting.
21:3  Their hearts are idle and those who have wronged their own souls hold a secret counsel among themselves saying, “Is this anything but a mortal human like you? Will you then yield to the magic while you see plainly?”
21:4  He said, “My Lord knows the speech in the heaven and in the earth and He is The All-hearing, The All-knowing.”
21:5  Nay they said, “It is but jumbled up dreams. Nay he contrived it. Nay he is a poet. Let him then bring a sign unto us in the like manner that the messengers of the former times were sent [with signs]”
21:6  None of the townships that We had destroyed before them believed. Are they going to believe?
21:7  We never sent before you except men whom We inspired. Therefore ask the people of remembrance if you do not know.
21:8  And We did not make them physical beings that do not eat food nor were they to abide forever [in this world].
21:9  Then We fulfilled the promise to them so We saved them and whom We pleased and We destroyed the ones who wasted their own souls.
21:10  Indeed We have revealed unto you a book wherein is your remembrance. Will you then not understand?
21:11  And how many a township that was bent on wrongdoing have We crushed and We raised after them other people.
21:12  When they felt Our fury close to them, behold here they are, running away from it (the township).
21:13  Do not run away but return to all that in which you revelled [before] and to your dwellings so that you might be called to account.
21:14  They said, “Woe unto us. We indeed were wrongdoers.”
21:15  And that never ceased to be their cry until We made them like a harvested field, utterly lifeless.
21:16  And We did not create the heaven and the earth and what is between them in playful sport.
21:17  If it had been Our design to take unto Ourselves an idle leisure, We certainly would have taken it from Our presence if We were going to do so.
21:18  Nay We cast with the truth against the falsehood and it [the truth] knocks it out completely and behold it [the falsehood] is dismantled and the woe unto you for all that you attribute [to Allah].
21:19  And to Him belongs whosoever is in the heavens and in the earth and those who are in His presence do not feel arrogant to serve Him and nor do they get weary [of serving Him].
21:20  They glorify across the day and across the night, they do not slack
21:21  Or have they taken gods from the earth who raise the dead?
21:22  If there were in them other deities besides Allah then both of them would have fallen into corruption. Therefore glorified be Allah, Lord of the throne from all that they attribute [to Him].
21:23  He is not questioned for whatever He does but they will be questioned.
21:24  Or have they taken besides Him other gods? Say, “Bring along your clear proof. This is remembrance of those with me and remembrance of those from before me. Nay! Most of them do not know the truth but yet they turn away in arrogance.”
21:25  And We did not send a messenger before you but We inspired him [to know] that there is no other deity except I, therefore worship Me [alone].
21:26  And they say, “Ar-Rahman [The All-merciful] has taken unto Himself a son.” Glorified be He [from what they attribute to Him] Nay! [the angels] are but servants honored with grace.
21:27  They do not go ahead of Him in speech and they work according to His command.
21:28  He knows what is ahead of them and what is behind them and they do not intercede except for one He is pleased [to intercede] while they out of deference for Him are concerned for themselves.
21:29  And whosoever among them says, “I am a deity besides Him” that very one shall We reward with hellfire. Thus do We reward those who wrong their own souls.
21:30  Do those who disbelieve not perceive that the heavens and the earth both used to be locked together then We unlocked both of them and from the water We made every living thing. Will they not then believe?
21:31  And We placed in the earth mountains lest it oscillates with them and in it We made there broad spaces as ways so that they may find guidance [in their journey].
21:32  And We have raised up the firmament as a roof well-guarded, yet they turn away from its [firmament’s] signs [in arrogance].
21:33  It is He who created the night and the day and the sun and the moon, each coursing in an orbit.
21:34  And We did not grant unto any human before you eternal life [of this world] so then if you die, are they going to live forever?
21:35  Every soul is going to taste the death and We try you through evil and through good as a test and unto Us shall you be returned.
21:36  And when those who disbelieve see you, they but take you as a thing of jest [and they say], “Is this the one who makes mention of your deities?” While they disbelieve about the mention of Ar-Rahman [The All-merciful].
21:37  Human being was created out of haste. I shall in time show you My signs therefore do not ask Me to hasten them.
21:38  And they say, “When will this promise be fulfilled if you are indeed sincere?”
21:39  If only those who disbelieved knew that a time will come when they will not be able to ward off the fire from their faces nor from their backs and they will not be helped.
21:40  Nay it will come to them suddenly and will confound them and then they will not be able to push it back nor will they be looked at.
21:41  Messengers before you were indeed derided but those who mocked at them were overtaken by that with which they used to deride.
21:42  Say, “Who could protect you by the night and by the day from Ar-Rahman [The All-merciful]?” Nay but they turn away from the remembrance of their Lord.
21:43  Or do they have deities who can defend them from Us? They [the deities] cannot help themselves nor will they be protected from Us.
21:44  Nay We have caused these and their fathers to enjoy until the lifespan felt too long for them. Do they not see that We come at the earth and We reduce it from its sides? Will they then be the victors [against Us]?
21:45  Say, “I only warn you by what is inspired” but the deaf will not hear the call even when they are being warned.
21:46  But if a breath from the punishment of your Lord was to touch them, they would most certainly say, “Woe unto us we indeed were those who used to wrong their own souls.”
21:47  And We will set up the scales which are just on the day of resurrection so that no soul is cheated of anything and even if it were but the weight of a single seed of mustard [as a good or bad deed] We will certainly bring it forth and We suffice as reckoners.
21:48  And indeed We granted unto Moses and Aaron the criterion and a brilliant light and a remembrance for those who revere Allah.
21:49  Those who defer to their Lord from the unseen and who are concerned about the hour.
21:50  And this is a most blessed remembrance which We have revealed. Are you then going to deny it?
21:51  And We had indeed given unto Abraham his criterion before and We encompass him in Our knowledge.
21:52  When he said to his father and to his people, “What are these images to which you are so avowedly devoted?”
21:53  They said, “We found our fathers worshipping them.”
21:54  He said, “Then you and your fathers were indeed in a manifest error.”
21:55  They said, “Have you come to us with the truth or are you one of those who sport?”
21:56  He said, “Nay your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and of the earth who originated their creation and I am among the witnesses to that
21:57  and by Allah I will most certainly discomfit your idols with my scheme after you turn your backs away.”
21:58  So he broke them into pieces except the biggest of them so that they might return to it.
21:59  They said, “Who has done this to our gods? He indeed is of those who are wrongful.”
21:60  They said, “We heard a young man called Abraham speak [ill] of them.”
21:61  They said, “Then bring him under the eyes of the people perhaps they will witness.”
21:62  They said, “Is it you who did this to our gods, O Abraham?”
21:63  He said, “Nay it was done by this the biggest one among them then ask them if they can speak.”
21:64  So they returned back to their own souls therefore they said, “Truly you yourself are doing wrong to your own souls.”
21:65  Then they reverted back to their former position [and said], “You know indeed that these cannot speak.”
21:66  He said, “Do you then worship besides Allah something that can neither benefit you in aught nor can it harm you?
21:67  Fie on you and on those that you worship besides Allah. Will you not then understand?”
21:68  They said, “Burn him and give victory to your gods if you are going to do something.”
21:69  We said, “O fire! Be cool and peace upon Abraham.”
21:70  And they attempted to discomfit him through their scheme but We caused them to be the biggest losers.
21:71  And We saved him and Lot to the land in which We have made blessings for the peoples.
21:72  And We gifted unto him Isaac and also Jacob as an additional gift and all of them We made them righteous.
21:73  And We made them leaders who find guidance through Our command and We inspired them to do the deeds of grace and to establish the prayer and to give out the sanctifying dues and they used to serve Us devotedly.
21:74  And unto Lot We gave wisdom and knowledge and We saved him from the town which used to practice the abominations. Truly they were people who were evil and who trespassed against Our commandment.
21:75  And We admitted him into Our mercy. Truly he was of the righteous.
21:76  And Noah too when he called out aforetime and We responded to him and We saved him and his family from the great strain.
21:77  And We made him victorious over the people who belied Our signs. Truly they were an evil people so We drowned them altogether.
21:78  And David and Solomon when they both gave judgment about the field into which the cattle of the people grazed in over the night and We were witnesses to their judgment.
21:79  And We gave insight in the case to Solomon and to both of them We had given wisdom and knowledge. And through our command We caused the mountains and the birds to celebrate the glories of Allah with David and it is Us truly who were the doers.
21:80  And We taught him the making of armored dresses for you to protect you from your fury. Are you then going to be thankful?
21:81  And for Solomon [We caused] the wind to blow running by his commandment to the land in which We have placed our blessings and We indeed were All-knowing about everything.
21:82  And from the rebellious Jinns were those who dived for him and they used to do deeds other than that and it was Us who kept the guard over them.
21:83  And Job when he called out to his Lord [saying that], “Truly the adversity has touched me and You are The Most Merciful of those who are merciful.”
21:84  And We responded to him and We removed whatever adversity that was on him and We gave unto him his family and the like of them with them, a mercy from Our presence and a reminder for the true servants.
21:85  And Ishmael and Idris and zul-kifl; all among steadfastly patient.
21:86  And We admitted them into Our mercy for they truly were of the righteous.
21:87  And zun-noon (the man of the whale) when he went in anger he thought that We will never constrict him so he called from the darknesses saying that, “There is no deity except You. Glory be unto You. Truly I was of those who have done wrong to their own soul.”
21:88  So We responded to him and We saved him from the grievous distress and thus do We save the believers.
21:89  And Zachariyah when he called unto his Lord, “O my Lord, do not leave me a single and you are the best of the inheritors.”
21:90  And We responded to him and granted unto him Yahaya and We made good his wife for him. Truly they used to race with one another in the deeds of grace and they used to call on Us out of hope and fear and they were truly humble for Us.
21:91  And the lady who guarded her chastity so We breathed into her from Our spirit and We made her and her son a sign for the worlds.
21:92  Truly this is your nation which is one nation and I am your Lord so serve Me alone.
21:93  But they tore their matter into pieces among them. All of them are going to return to Us.
21:94  Whoever does anything from the righteous deeds while he is a believer, truly his hard work will not be denied and We are going to write it for him.
21:95  So it is ordained that there will not be a single town that We have destroyed that it will not return back to us.
21:96  Until when Gog and Magog will be let loose and they will be sweeping down from every direction.
21:97  And the true promise has now drawn near thereupon the gaze of those who disbelieved is fixed in a stare and they say, “Woe unto us we indeed were oblivious about this. Nay we were of those who used to wrong their own souls.”
21:98  You indeed and that what you worship besides Allah are but the fuel of hellfire and you are going to be flocked unto it.
21:99  If these were deities they would not have flocked therein and all of them are going to abide therein forever.
21:100  They make lamentations therein but since they are in it, they do not hear [anything].
21:101  Truly as for those for whom Our words of good promise had gone forth they are going to be removed far from it.
21:102  They will not hear its hissings while they abide forever in that which their souls desire.
21:103  The greatest terror will not cause them grief and the angels will meet them with welcomes [saying]. “This is your day which you were promised.”
21:104  The day We will roll up the heaven like the way a scroll is rolled over the books. As We started its creation the first time, We will repeat it [a second time] that is a promise on Us and We surely are going to put it into effect.
21:105  And We indeed wrote in the psalms after the remembrance that the earth, it will be inherited by My righteous servants.
21:106  Truly in this there is a clear message for a people who are true servants.
21:107  And We have not sent you except as a mercy for the worlds.
21:108  Say, “All that I am inspired [to know] is that your God is only one God. Are you then going to submit?”
21:109  And if they turn away then say, “I inform you all the same. However I do not know whether it is near or far that which you are promised.”
21:110  He truly knows what is made open from the speech and knows what you conceal.
21:111  And I do not know either whether it might be a trial for you and an enjoyment for a little while.
21:112  He said, “O my Lord! Judge with the truth” and our Lord Ar-Rahman [The All-merciful] is the one whose help is to be sought against all that you attribute falsely [to him].”
