3:1  Alif-Lãm-Mĩm.
3:2  Allâh! There is no God but He, the Ever-Living, the One Who sustains and keeps safe all that which exists.
3:3  He is the one Who sent down upon you, (O’ Muhammad), the ‘Book’, (the Glorious ‘Qur’ān’) in truth, verifying and establishing that which is before it. He revealed the ‘Torah’ and the ‘Gospel’
3:4  Aforetime, as a source of religious insight to the people. He revealed the ‘Criterion’. Indeed, those who give no credence to the ‘Holy Verses’ of Allâh will be subjected to an extremely severe punishment. Lo! Allâh is All-Mighty, the Lord of Retribution.
3:5  Indeed, nothing is hidden from Allâh, whether on the earth, or in the heavens.
3:6  He is the One Who shapes you in the wombs however He wills: for there is one God; and there is none other but He, the All-mighty, the All-wise.
3:7  He is the One Who has sent down to you, (O’ Muhammad), the ‘Book’, (the Glorious Qur’ān) in which some ‘Verses’ are absolutely tangible. And they are the essence of the ‘Book’, while other ‘Verses’ are allegorical. But those in whose hearts is perversity follow the part thereof that is allegorical, seeking discord, and seeking an interpretation (suitable for them). No one knows its real interpretation but Allâh. Those who are firmly and deeply planted in the spiritual knowledge and enlightenment say: "We believe in it. All of it is from our Lord." No one is paying attention to (this fact) except for those people who have high self-awareness.
3:8  (They say): "Our Lord, let not our hearts be deviated (from the truth) after You have already given us the revelation in the knowledge of You, and bestow upon us Your (divine) clemency. Verily, You are the Most Generous Benefactor.”
3:9  Our Lord, absolutely, You are the one who will gather the people together on an ‘Inevitable Day’. Indeed, Allâh never fails to fulfill His promise."
3:10  As for those who excessively indulge in disbelief (Allâh), - definitely neither their wealth nor their children will avail them against (the wrath of) Allâh. It is they who will be the fuel for the Fire.
3:11  (They are like) the clan of ‘Pharaoh’ and those who were before them. They refused to give credence to our ‘Revelations’. Thus, Allâh seized them for their sins. Allâh is indeed extremely severe in punishment.
3:12  (O’ Muhammad), say unto those who excessively indulge in disbelief (in Allâh) : "You will be defeated and gathered together to ‘Gehenna’; what a dreadful abode is!"
3:13  Indeed, there was a sign (of Allâh’s power & Glory) for you in the two armies which met (on the battlefield. The first one consists of monotheistic believers) fighting for (serving) the cause of Allâh. The second one consists of those who persist in disbelief (in Allâh). The monotheistic believers saw them with their own eyes twice their number. Allâh strengthens with His aid whom He wills. Indeed, there is a lesson in this for those who have deep spiritual insight
3:14  Beautified for people is the love of worldly desires: women, children, stored-up heaps of gold and silver, freeze branding horses, cattle, and arable land. These are the pleasures of the ‘worldly life’, but Allâh has with Him the best bode, (‘Al-Jannah’).
3:15  (O’ ‘Prophet’), say (unto all the people): "Shall I inform you of something better than those (‘worldly desires’)? For those who act piously, there will be gardens in the presence of their Lord with rivers flowing beneath, where they will abide therein, and purified spouses, and contentment from Allâh. He is All-Seer of the (His) servants.
3:16  Those who say: "Our Lord, indeed we have become ‘Monotheistic Believers’, therefore, redeem us from our sins, and guard us against the torment of the Fire."
3:17  (They are) the steadfastly persevere, the truthful, the obedient, the ones who pursue righteousness, and who seek forgiveness during the last part of the night.
3:18  Allâh bears witness that there is one God; and there is none other but He, as well as the ‘Angels’ and those who have spiritual gift of knowledge and enlightenment, upholding (the Creation) in justice. There is no god but He, the All-Mighty, the All-Wise.
3:19  Indeed, the system of faith and worship in the sight of Allâh is Islam. Those who were given the ‘Scripture’ (‘Jews’ & ‘Christians’) differed not but after the full knowledge of the Truth had come to them- due to jealous animosity between them. Whoever denies Allâh’s signs (must know that) Allâh is certainly too swift at reckoning.
3:20  If it happens that they argue with you, say: "I have submitted (myself entirely to the authority of) Allâh, as well as those who follow me." Unto those who were given the ‘Scripture’ and unto the illiterate ones, say: “Have you submitted yourselves (entirely to the authority of Allâh)?" If it happens that they submit (themselves entirely to the authority of Allâh), then they will attain spiritual insight. But if it happens that they take no heed, then Your duty is only to convey and promulgate the ‘Message’. Allâh is All-Seer of (His) servants.
3:21  Indeed, those who give no credence to the signs of Allâh, kill the ‘Prophets’ unjustly, and slay those among men who enjoin justice - give them the tidings of extremely painful chastisement (that awaits them in the ‘Hereafter’).
3:22  Those are the ones whose deeds have become null and void in this ‘worldly life’, and in the ‘Hereafter’. There will be none to give them help.
3:23  Have you not considered, (O’ Muhammad), those who were given a portion of the ‘Scripture’? They invoke the ‘Scripture’ of Allâh, (the 'Qur’ān'), in order to judge between them, and then a party of them turns away from it in a repulsive manner.
3:24  That is because they say: "Never will the Fire touch us except for certain number of days;" and because they were deluded in their belief by (the fabricated myths) which they used to mythologize.
3:25  Then how will it be when We bring them all together to an ‘Inevitable Day’? Each ‘Human self’ will be paid in full according to what it has earned. It will not be wronged.
3:26  Say: "O’ Allâh, Lord of Sovereignty, You give authority to whom You want, and You take away the authority from whom You want. You give honor and prestige to whom you want, and You humiliate whom you want. And whatever is veracious lies in Your hand. Indeed, You are capable of doing whatever You will.
3:27  You cause the night to pass into the day, and You cause the day to pass into the night. You bring forth the living from the dead; and You bring forth the dead from the living. You give the means of subsistence to whom You want without measure.
3:28  Let not the ‘Monotheistic Believers’ take the impious as friends or allies instead of the ‘Monotheistic Believers’. Whoever does that has nothing to do with what Allâh has prescribed, unless he does (out of fear), as precaution in guarding himself against them. Allâh warns you against His divine retribution. And to Allâh is the definitive course.
3:29  (O’ ‘Prophet’), say: "Whether you conceal what is in your hearts , or bring it to light, Allâh knows it. He knows perfectly well whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth. Allâh is capable of doing whatever He wills.
3:30  There will come a ‘Day’ when each ‘Human self’ is confronted with all the good it has earned, and with all the evil it has earned, wishing there would be great distance between it and its evil deeds. Allâh warns you against His divine retribution. Allâh is Full of Kindness to His servants.
3:31  Say: "If you demonstrate your own love for Allâh, then follow me. Thus, Allâh will demonstrate His own love for you, and will redeem you from your sins. Allâh is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful."
3:32  Say: "Obey Allâh and the ‘Messenger’." If they take not heed, (then let them know that) Allâh does not demonstrate his own love for those who persist in disbelief (in Him).
3:33  Indeed, Allâh chose ‘Adam’, ‘Noah’, the family of ‘Abraham’ and the family of ‘Imrān’ over all the people of the world.
3:34  They were offspring of one another. Allâh is the All-Hearer, All-Knowing.
3:35  (Mention), when the wife of '‘Imrān’ said: "My Lord, certainly, I vow to You that I will let what is in my womb be devoted to Your service. Thus, accept this from me. Indeed, You are the All-Hearer, the All-Knowing."
3:36  When she gave birth to a baby girl, she said: "My Lord, I have given birth to a baby girl,- Allâh Knows perfectly well what she gave birth to- the male is not like the female, and I have named her ‘Mary’. Thus, I earnestly seek refuge for her in You, and for her descendants from ‘Satan’, the condemned."
3:37  Thus, her Lord accepted her with full approval and made her grow up in a virtuous environment, placing her in the care of ‘Zachariah’. Whenever ‘Zachariah’ entered the sanctuary to (see) her, he found her being supplied with sustenance. He asked: "O’ ‘Mary’, Whence comes this to you?" She answered: "It is from Allâh. Indeed, Allâh gives the means of subsistence to whom He wants without measure."
3:38  There where ‘Zachariah’ implored and prayed to his Lord, saying: "O’ my Lord, grant me from You a virtuous offspring. Indeed, You are the All-Hearer of supplication."
3:39  Thus, the ‘Angels’ called him while he was standing in prayer in the sanctuary: "Indeed, Allâh announces to you the joyful news of (a son whose name is) ‘John’, (coming) to confirm a word from Allâh. He will be a noble leader, a chaste and a ‘Prophet’ among the righteous.”
3:40  He said: "My Lord, how can I have a son when I am already senile and my wife is barren?" Then one (of the ‘Angels’ said unto him): “Such is the will of Allâh. Thus, Allâh does whatever He wills."
3:41  He said: "O’ my Lord , give me a Sign.” He said: "Your sign is that you will not speak to the people for three days except by gesture. Thus, celebrate the praises of your Lord frequently, glorify Him and declare His divine glory in the early mornings and in the evenings."
3:42  Behold! The ‘Angels’ said: "O’ ‘Mary’, indeed Allâh has preferred you, purified you and chosen you above all the women of the worlds.
3:43  O’ ‘Mary’, be an obedient devotee of the Lord, prostrate yourself before Him and bow down (in prayer) with those who bow down!"
3:44  This is part of the tidings of the unseen, which We reveal unto you, (O’ Prophet). You were not present with them when they cast their pens (to find out the one) who should take ‘Mary’ to his custody, nor were you present with them when they argued about it.
3:45  Behold! The ‘Angels’ said: "O’ ‘Mary’, indeed Allâh announces to you the joyful news of a word from Him, whose name will be ‘Christ’, ‘Jesus son of Mary’, greatly honored in this ‘worldly life’ and the ‘Hereafter’, and of those who are brought near (to Allâh).
3:46  He will speak to the people in his cradle, preaching to them when he will be a matured man. He will be of the righteous.”
3:47  She said: "My Lord, how can I have a child when no man has touched me?" (The ‘Angel’) said: "Such is the will of Allâh. He creates whatever He wills. When He decrees a matter, He only says unto it: ‘Be,’ consequently, there it is.
3:48  He will give him wisdom and teach him the ‘Scripture’, the ‘Torah’, and the ‘Gospel’,
3:49  Making him a ‘Messenger’ to the ‘Children of Israel’, (who will say unto them), 'Indeed, I have come to you with a sign from your Lord, in that I (am capable of) creating for you out of clay the likeness of a bird, then I breathe into it. It will become a bird by the Permission of Allâh. I (am capable also of) healing the blind and the leper, and giving life to the dead by the Permission of Allâh. I will inform you of what you eat and what you store in your houses. Indeed in that is a sign (of Allâh’s power & glory) for you, if you are prepared to profess a belief (in the Omnipotence & Omnipresence of Allâh).
3:50  I have come to you to authenticate what was before me of the ‘Torah’, and to make lawful some of that which was forbidden to you. I have come to you with a sign from your Lord; therefore, act piously towards Allâh, and obey me.
3:51  Indeed, Allâh is my Lord and your Lord, thus, worship ( & venerate) Him alone. This is the upright Faith."
3:52  Nevertheless, When ‘Jesus’ felt their inclination towards disbelief, he said: "Who will be my supporters for (serving the cause of) Allâh?” The ‘Disciples’ replied: “We are the supporters for (serving the cause of) Allâh. We do believe in Allâh. Thus, (O’ ‘Jesus’), bear witness that we have submitted (ourselves completely to His authority).
3:53  Our Lord! We have believed in what you have revealed, and followed the ‘Messenger’, (‘Jesus Christ’). Thus., enroll us with those who bear witness."
3:54  (The impious) hatched a plot (to murder ‘Jesus son of Mary’); but Allâh had a different plan for him. Allâh is the best One in setting up a plan.
3:55  Behold! Allâh said: "O’ ‘Jesus’, indeed I will take you and raise you to Myself, purifying you from (the blasphemy) of those who excessively indulge in disbelief; and I will make those who follow you (in submission to Allâh alone) superior over those who fall into disbelief until the ‘Day of Resurrection’. Then you are all bound to return unto Me, and then I will judge between you concerning that in which you used to differ.
3:56  As for those who excessively indulge in disbelief (in Allâh) - I will chastise them with an extremely severe punishment in this ‘worldly life’ and the ‘Hereafter’. There will be none to give them help.
3:57  But for those who adhere firmly to Islamic monotheism and do righteous acts (in this ‘worldly life’)- Allâh will pay them their reward in full. Allâh demonstrate not his own love for those who are grossly unfair and morally wrong.
3:58  What We recite to you, (O’ Muhammad), are ‘Revelations’ and (the Holy Verses of) the Wise ‘Reminder’, (the 'Qur’ān').
3:59  Indeed, the likeness of ‘Jesus’ in the sight of Allâh is as the likeness of ‘Adam’. He created him from dust, and then said unto him: "Be," consequently, there he was.
3:60  This is the Truth from your Lord, thus, be not among those who harbor doubts.
3:61  Then whoever argues with you about it after receiving this full knowledge of the Truth, say: "Come, let us all call our sons and your sons, our women and your women, ourselves and yourselves, and then we will pray humbly and make the curse of Allâh be upon the liars.”
3:62  Indeed, this ('Qur’ān') is the upright narration. There is one God; and there is none other but Allâh. Indeed, He is the All-Mighty, the All-Wise.
3:63  But if it happens that they take no heed, then (let them be sure that) Allâh is All-Aware of those who indulge in corruption.
3:64  (O’ Muhammad) say: "O’ ‘People of the Scripture’, let us come to an equitable agreement between us, that we will worship no one but Allâh, ascribe no partner to Him, and that none of us will take others for lords beside Allâh." But if they take no heed, then say: "Bear witness that we are Muslims.”
3:65  O’ ‘People of the Scripture’, why do you argue concerning (the Faith of) ‘Abraham’? The ‘Torah’ and the ‘Gospel’ were not revealed until after him? Do you not possess self- awareness that allows you to understand?
3:66  Here you are arguing about that whereof you have some knowledge. Why do you then argue about that of which you have no knowledge? Allâh knows perfectly well while you do lack the knowledge.
3:67  ‘Abraham’ was not a ‘Jew’ or a ‘Christian’, but he was a monotheist who had surrendered (himself completely to the authority of Allâh). And he was not of the Polytheists.
3:68  Indeed, the people who have the best claim to ‘Abraham’ are his followers, and this ‘Prophet’, (Muhammad), and those who are adhere firmly to Islamic monotheism. Allâh is the True Guardian of the ‘Monotheistic Believers’ (of the unfeigned faith).
3:69  There is a group among the ‘People of the Scripture’, (‘Jews’ & ‘Christians’) who would like to mislead you. But they will not be able to mislead anyone except themselves. But they do lack the ability to perceive that.
3:70  O’ ‘People of the Scripture’, (‘Jews’ & ‘Christians’), why do you refuse to admit the truth of the ‘Revelations’ of Allâh while you bear witness (to their truth)?
3:71  O’ ‘People of the Scripture’, why do you confound truth with falsehood, and conceal the truth while you know it?
3:72  A group among the ‘People of the Scripture’ says (unto each other): "Do believe in that which is revealed unto the Monotheistic Believers at the beginning of the day, and disbelieve in it at its end, so that they may renounce their faith.
3:73  Therefore, trust none but those who follow your own Faith." Say: "Indeed, the only divine guidance is the guidance of Allâh. (Do you fear that) some people might be given the same knowledge that you were given, and then they will argue with you before your Lord?" Say: "Indeed, the bounty is in the hand of Allâh. He grants it to whom He wills (of His servants). Allâh is All-Encompassing, All-Knowing."
3:74  He selects for His mercy whom He wills. Allâh is the Lord of the great bounty.
3:75  Among the ‘People of the Scripture’, there is one who, if you entrust him with a large amount of money, he will return it to you. Among them (Also), there is one who, if you entrust him with one ‘dīnār’, he will not return it to you, unless you stay standing over him. That is because they say: “We have no duty towards the ‘Gentiles’." They deliberately speak a lie against Allâh, while they are full aware of it.
3:76  Nay, he whoever fulfills his commitment and acts piously, (let him know that) Allâh demonstrates his own love for the ‘Pious’ ( or for those who show reverence & obedience to Him /or for those who guard themselves against falling into temptation or sin).
3:77  Indeed, those who exchange the covenant of Allâh and their faith for a small price will have no share in the ‘Hereafter’. Allâh will not speak with them, or look at them on the ‘Day of Resurrection’, nor will He purify them. Consequently, they will be subjected to an extremely painful punishment (in the ‘Hereafter’).
3:78  Indeed, there is a party among them distorting the ‘Scripture’ with their tongues so that you may think it is part of the ‘Scripture’, while it is not. They say: "This is from Allâh” while it is not. They deliberately tell lies about Allâh while they are fully aware of it.
3:79  It is not (possible) for any human being that Allâh should give him the ‘Scripture’, the authority of moral judgments and Prophethood, and then he would say to the people: "Be my worshipers rather than Allâh's," but instead, he would say: "be faithful preachers of the Lord because of what you have taught of the ‘Scripture’, and because of what you have studied."
3:80  He would never command you to take the ‘Angels’ or ‘Prophets’ as deities. Would he command you to abandon the Faith after you had submitted (yourselves to His authority)?
3:81  Behold! Allâh took the covenant of the ‘Prophets’, saying: "Take whatever I gave you from the ‘Book’ and wisdom as there will come to you a ‘Messenger’ who will verify and establish what is with you. You must believe in him and support him." Then He asked them: “Do you acknowledge and accept my covenant?" They replied: "Yes, we do." He said: "Then bear witness, and I am with you among the witnesses."
3:82  Therefore, whosoever takes no heed after this, they are the sons of disobedience.
3:83  So is it other than the religion of Allâh they desire, when all that is in the heavens and on the earth have submitted themselves to His will, either willingly or by compulsion? And unto Him, they are (destined) to be returned.
3:84  (O’ Muhammad), say: "We believe in Allâh, and in that which has been revealed unto us, and in that which was revealed unto ‘Abraham’, ‘Ishmael’, ‘Isaac’, ‘Jacob’, and the ‘Descendants’, and in that which was vouchsafed to ‘Moses’, ‘Jesus’ and the ‘Prophets’ from their Lord. We make no distinction between them, and to Him, we do surrender."
3:85  Therefore, whoever seeks a religion other than Islam, it will not be accepted from him, and he, in the ‘Hereafter’, will be among those who are doomed to eternal perdition.
3:86  How will Allâh give divine guidance to a people who renounced their faith after they had witnessed that the ‘Messenger’ was true, while at the same time the full knowledge of the Truth had come to them? Allâh will not illuminate the path of a people who are grossly unfair and morally wrong.
3:87  As for such, their penalty will be that in them abides the curse of Allâh, the ‘Angels’, and all the people, all together.
3:88  They will remain in this curse forever, and the divine chastisement (in the ‘Hereafter’) will not be lightened for them, nor will they be reprieved.
3:89  But those who repent after that and amend their ways, (let them Know that) Allâh is indeed Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.
3:90  Indeed, those who renounced their faith after accepting it and insisting on increasing their disbelief in Allâh (let them Know that) their repentance will never be accepted. They are the ones who have gone astray.
3:91  Indeed, those who excessively indulge in disbelief (in Allâh) then die as Faithless- the whole earth full of gold would not be accepted from anyone of them if he offered it as a ransom. And they will be subjected to an extremely painful punishment, and there will be none to offer them help.
3:92  You will not obtain the greatest reward, (entering ‘Al- Jannah’), unless you expend of that which you love. Thus, whatever you expend, (be sure that) Allâh is Well- Aware of it.
3:93  All types of Food were made lawful to the ‘Children of Israel’ except for what ‘Israel’ had made unlawful for himself before the ‘Torah’ was revealed. Thus, Say: (O’ Muhammad, unto them), "Bring the ‘Torah’ and recite it, if you are truthful."
3:94  Then after that, whoever invents a lie against Allâh, such are the ones who are grossly unfair and morally wrong.
3:95  Say: “Allâh has spoken the truth; therefore, follow the creed and the belief of ‘Abraham’, who was a monotheist, not among the ‘Polytheists’."
3:96  Indeed, the first ‘House’ (of Worship) was established for mankind was that at ‘Mecca’, a ‘Sacred Place’ and a source of spiritual growth for all the beings.
3:97  In it are clear signs such as the standing place of ‘Abraham’. Whoever enters it will be safe. Pilgrimage to the ‘House’ is incumbent upon all the people, on everyone who is able to undertake the journey to it. As for the one who falls into disbelief in Allâh, (let him know that) Allâh is indeed Self-Sufficient, above any need of the worlds.
3:98  (O’ Muhammad), say: "O’ ‘People of the Scripture’, why do you refuse to give credence to the ‘Holy Verses’ of Allâh while Allâh (Himself) is Witness over what you do?"
3:99  (O’ Muhammad), say: "O’ ‘People of the Scripture’, why do you create difficulties in (serving) the cause of Allâh for those who adhere to Islamic monotheism? You intend to make it look deviant while you are witnesses (to the truth). Allâh is not oblivious to what you do.
3:100  O’ you who adhere firmly to Islamic monotheism, if it happens that you obey a party of those who have received the ‘Scripture’, they will do their best to make you renounce your Faith.
3:101  Would it be possible for you to fall in disbelief in Allâh while it is you to whom the ‘Holy Verses’ of Allâh are recited, and among you is His ‘Messenger’? Whoever holds firmly to the (‘Message’) of Allâh will definitely be guided to the right path.
3:102  O’ you who adhere firmly to Islamic monotheism, act piously towards Allâh in accordance with what is required, and die only as Muslims.
3:103  Hold firmly to the cord of Allâh all together and do not be divided, and remember with gratitude the grace of Allâh upon you : When you were enemies, He united your hearts by His grace, thus, you became, by His Favor, brethren. You were on the brink of a pit of fire, and then He saved you from it. This is how Allâh shows you His Signs (of power & glory) so that you may attain spiritual insight.
3:104  Let there be among you a group of people inviting to goodness, enjoining right conduct and preventing whatever is wrong. Those are the ones who will ultimately achieve a blissful life/or gain eternal salvation.
3:105  Be not like the ones who became divided, and differed after the full knowledge of the truth had come to them. For those, a great chastisement awaits them ( in the ‘Hereafter’).
3:106  There will be a ‘Day’ when some faces will turn white and some faces will turn black. As for those whose faces have turned back, (it will be said unto them): “Did you renounce your Faith? Therefore, taste the chastisement as an outcome of your constant refusal to accept Islamic monotheism."
3:107  But, as for the those whose faces have turned white will relish in clemency of Allâh. They will remain therein forever.
3:108  These are the (Holy) ‘Verses’ of Allâh. We recite them to you, (O’ Muhammad), in truth. Allâh does not intend to do injustice to (His) creatures.
3:109  Unto Allâh belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth. Unto Allâh, all matters are returned.
3:110  You are the best nation that has been raised up for mankind. You enjoin right conduct, forbid what is wrong and believe in Allâh. If only ‘the people of the Scripture’ had embraced Islam, it would have certainly been better for them. Among them are believers (of unfeigned faith), but most of them are walking in the path of disobedience.
3:111  They will not harm you but a trifling hurt. If it happens that they fight against you, they will turn around and flee, and then they will not be helped.
3:112  Ignominy is pitched over them wherever they are found except when they are under a covenant with Allâh, and a covenant with men. They brought the wrath of Allâh upon themselves, being pitched by misery. This because they refused to give credence to the ‘Revelations’ of Allâh, (the Lord of all the worlds), and slew the ‘Prophets’ without right. That is because they used to walk in the path of disobedience and keep on falling into sin.
3:113  Not all of them are alike; among the ‘People of the Scripture’, there is an upright party. They do recite the (Holy) ‘Verses’ of Allâh during the periods of night and do prostrate in prayer.
3:114  They believe in Allâh and the ‘Last Day’, enjoining right conduct, preventing whatever is wrong and hastening to do righteous acts. Those are among the righteous.
3:115  Whatever good thing they do, (be sure) they will not be excluded from obtaining their reward. Allâh is Well-Aware of the ‘Pious’ (or of those who show reverence & obedience to Allâh / or of those who guard themselves against falling into temptation or sin).
3:116  Indeed, those who excessively indulge in disbelief (in Allâh)- neither their wealth nor their children will avail them against (the wrath of) Allâh. They are the ‘Denizens of Hell’, where they will abide therein.
3:117  The likeness of what they expend in this ‘worldly life’ is the likeness of freezing wind striking and destroying the harvest of people, who have wronged themselves. Allâh wronged them not, but they wrong their own selves.
3:118  O’ you who adhere firmly to Islamic monotheism, take not as intimates others than your own people. They would spare nothing to ruin you, and would like to see that you are seriously harmed. Animosity has already appeared from their mouths, and what their hearts conceal is greater. We have certainly made the signs clear to you, if you do possess self- awareness that allows you to understand.
3:119  Here you are showing them your love, while they do not love you, although you believe in all the ‘Scriptures’. When they meet you, they say: "We adhere to Islamic monotheism.”But when they are alone, they bite their fingertips in rage against you. Therefore, say unto them: "Die in your outrage!” Indeed, Allâh is Well-Aware of what is in the hearts.
3:120  When a single good deed touches you, it makes them upset. But when a misfortune befalls you, they rejoice over it. If you persist in patience and continence, and act piously, their evil schemes will not harm you. Indeed, Allâh is All-Encompassing of what they do.
3:121  (Mention) when you, (O’ Muhammad), left your household in the morning to lodge the ‘Monotheistic Believers’ in their pitches for the battle (of ‘Uhud’). Allâh is All-Hearing, All-Knowing.
3:122  Behold! Although two parties among you were about to lose courage, Allâh remained their Guardian. Therefore, let the Monotheistic Believers depend on Allâh with full trust
3:123  Allâh had already given you victory at (the battle) of ‘Badr’ although you were few in number. Therefore, act piously towards Allâh so that you may be thankful.
3:124  (Recall the time ) when you said to the Monotheistic Believers: "Is it not enough for you that your Lord should strengthen you with three thousand ‘Angels’ specially sent down?”
3:125  Nay, if you would persist in patience and continence and act piously toward Allâh, while the enemy was coming rushing at you, your Lord would strengthen you with five thousand ‘Angels’ sweeping on.
3:126  Allâh made it not but as a sign of joyful news and as an assurance to your hearts. Triumph comes only from Allâh, the Almighty, the All-Wise,
3:127  So that He might cut off a part of those who lack Faith in Allâh or quell them. Thus, they turn back disappointed.
3:128  (O’ Muhammad) let it not be your concern, whether Allâh is going to forgive them, or whether He is going to chastise them, for indeed, they are grossly unfair and morally wrong.
3:129  Unto Allâh belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth. He forgives whom He will, and chastises whom He will. Allâh is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.
3:130  O’ you who adhere firmly to Islamic monotheism, devour not usury, doubled and multiplied, but act piously towards Allâh (show reverence & obedience to Allâh) so that you may achieve a blissful life/ or gain eternal salvation.
3:131  Guard yourselves against the Fire, which has been prepared for those who lack Faith in Allâh.
3:132  Obey Allâh and the ‘Messenger’ so that you may be delivered from all the consequences of your sins.
3:133  Hasten to forgiveness from your Lord and a garden as wide as the heavens and earth, prepared for the ‘Pious’
3:134  Who expend (on serving the cause of Allâh) during the time of ease and adversity, restrain their anger, and forgive people. Allâh demonstrates his own love for those who pursue righteousness.
3:135  And for those who when they commit an immorality or wrong their own selves, celebrate the praises of Allâh and seek forgiveness for their sins - Who besides Allâh can forgive sins?- and persist not in doing what they used to do while they know.
3:136  Those, their reward is forgiveness from their Lord and gardens with rivers flowing underneath where they will abide therein. Excellent is the reward of the faithful workers.
3:137  Verily, similar situations as yours had passed on before you. Travel in the earth and see the dreadful outcome of those who excessively indulge in disbelief (in Allâh).
3:138  This (Qur'ān) is a comprehensible statement to mankind, a source of spiritual insight and an admonition for the ‘Pious’(for those who show honor and reverence for Allâh/or for those who guard themselves against falling into temptation or sin).
3:139  Do not be dispirited or sad, for you will indeed be superior if you place your Faith in Allâh.”
3:140  If a wound has touched you, be sure a similar wound has touched the others. Such days of varying fortunes, We alternate among the people so that Allâh would identify those who adhere firmly to Islamic monotheism and take to Himself from among you martyrs - Allâh does not demonstrate his own love for those who are grossly unfair and morally wrong -
3:141  And that Allâh would purify the ‘Monotheistic Believers’ (from their sins through trials) and exterminate those who persist in disbelief (in Allâh).
3:142  Or do you think that you will enter ‘Al- Jannah’ while He has not identified yet the ones who strive hard and fight (bravely) in His cause, and those who resort to patience and constancy?
3:143  Verily, you used to long for death (i.e. for martyrdom) before you encountered it. Now you have seen it before your very eyes.
3:144  Muhammad is not more than a ‘Messenger’ like the ones who have passed away before him. Thus, if he died or was slain, would you turn back on your heels to disbelief? The one who turns back on his heels does no harm to Allâh, and Allâh will reward the thankful.
3:145  No ‘Human Self’ can ever die except by the permission of Allâh at an appointed time. Whoever desires the reward of this ‘worldly life’, We will bestow on him thereof; and whoever desires the reward of the ‘Hereafter’, We bestow on him thereof. We shall reward those who express their gratitude (to the Lord for His endless blessings).
3:146  So many faithful preachers fought with the Prophets. They fainted not for what smote them in (serving) the cause of Allâh , neither weakened, nor did they surrender to their enemies. Allâh demonstrates his own love for those who persist in patience and constancy.
3:147  Their words were not but that they said: "Our Lord, redeem us from our sins and from our extravagant spending on our affairs, plant firmly our feet and grant us victory over a people who persist in disbelief (in Allâh).”
3:148  Thus, Allâh will give them the reward of this ‘worldly life’ and the good reward of the ‘Hereafter’. Allâh demonstrates his own love for those whose heart is perfect towards Allâh.
3:149  O’ you who adhere firmly to Islamic monotheism, If it happens that you obey those who excessively indulge in disbelief (in Allâh), they will try to make you turn back upon your heels. Thus, you will then become among those who are doomed to eternal perdition.
3:150  Nay! Allâh is your Protector; and He is the Best Helper.
3:151  We will cast terror into the hearts of those who excessively indulge in disbelief ( in Allâh), because they ascribe partners to Allâh, for which He had sent no authority. Their abode will be Fire. Dreadful is the residence of those who are grossly unfair and morally wrong.
3:152  Verily, Allâh did fulfill His promise to you when you were exterminating your enemy by His Permission until the moment when you lost your courage, disputing over the order and disobeying after He had shown you that which you loved. Among you are some who desire this ‘worldly life’, and some who desire the ‘Hereafter’. Thus, He made you fall back so that He might test you. He has certainly forgiven you. Allâh is Full of Grace to the Monotheistic Believers.
3:153  Behold! You climbed up the high ground without even looking aside at anyone while the ‘Messenger’ was calling you from behind. Thus, Allâh repaid you with sorrow upon sorrow so that you might not mourn over what you had lost and the injuries you had suffered. Allâh is Well Acquainted with all that you do.
3:154  Then, after the sorrow, He sent down upon you security (in the form of) slumber overcoming a party of you while (the other) party, who worried about themselves, thought wrongly of Allâh as the thought of ignorance. They said: “Do we have any role to do with in this issue?” Indeed, the whole issue belongs unto to Allâh." They conceal within themselves what they will not reveal it unto you. They say: " Had we any role to do with in this issue, some of us would not have been killed right here." Say: "Even if you had been inside your houses, those who were appointed to be slain would have come out to their death beds”. (It meant to be) so that Allâh will identify what is within you, and purify what is in your hearts. Allâh is Well-Aware of what is hidden in the hearts (of mankind).
3:155  Indeed, those who fell back on the day when the two armies met- it was ‘Satan’ who caused them to backslide because of some of that which they had earned. Allâh has already forgiven them. Indeed, Allâh is Oft-Forgiving, Most Forbearing.
3:156  O’ you who adhere firmly to Islamic monotheism, do not be like those who indulge in disbelief in Allâh, saying of their brethren who traveled through the land or went out to fight, "If they had been with us, they would have not died or have been slain." Thus, Allâh makes that to be an intense regret in their hearts. It is Allâh who gives life and causes death, and Allâh is Well -Aware of all that you do.
3:157  Whether you are slain for (serving) the cause of Allâh or die, forgiveness and clemency from Allâh are far greater than what they amass in this ‘worldly life.’
3:158  Whether you die or being slain; unto Allâh, you are (destined to) be gathered.
3:159  It was due to the clemency from Allâh that you dealt gently with them, otherwise, if you had been rude or hard–hearted, they would have not stayed with you all this time. Therefore, pardon them, ask Allâh to forgive their sins and consult with them in certain issues. When you have taken the decision, then depend on Allâh with full trust. Indeed, Allâh demonstrates his own love for those who rely completely on Him with full trust.
3:160  If Allâh helps you, then no one can defeat you. But if He forsakes you, then who can offer you help after Him? Let the ‘Monotheistic Believers’ depend on Allâh with full trust.
3:161  It is not possible for any Prophet to defraud, and whoever defrauds will bring what he has defrauded with him on the ‘Day of Resurrection’. Then each ‘Human Self’ will be paid in full for what it earned; and they will not be wronged.
3:162  Is the one who follows the good pleasure of Allâh like the one who brings the wrath of Allâh upon himself and his abode is hellfire? Dreadful is definitive course!.
3:163  They are in different ranks in the sight of Allâh, and Allâh is Well-Aware of all that they do.
3:164  Indeed, Allâh conferred a great favor upon the ‘Monotheistic Believers’ when He sent among them a ‘Messenger’ from themselves reciting to them His (Holy) ‘Verses’, purifying them (from ‘Polytheism’ & ‘Atheism’), and teaching them the ‘Scripture’ and wisdom, while, before that, they had been living in manifest deception.
3:165  Why is it that when a single disaster struck you (in ‘battle of Uhud’), although you had struck the enemy (in the battle of Badr) with one twice as great, you began to say: "From where is this?" (O’ Muhammad), say unto them: "It is from your own selves." Indeed, Allâh is capable of doing whatever He wills.
3:166  What struck you on the day when the two armies met was by the permission of Allâh so that He may identify the ‘Monotheistic Believers’,
3:167  And may identify also those who are ‘Hypocrites’. For it was said unto them: “Come and fight for (serving) the cause of Allâh, or at least defend yourselves.” They said: “If we had known that there would be fighting, we would have definitely followed and fought with you." On that day, they were nearer to disbelief than faith, uttering with their mouths what was not in their hearts while Allâh knows perfectly well what they conceal.
3:168  Those who stayed home during the fight said of their slain brethren: “If they had obeyed us, they would not have been slain." Say: "Then prevent death from yourselves if you are truthful."
3:169  Think not of those who are slain in (serving) the cause of Allâh as ‘dead’. Nay, they are alive with their Lord, receiving the means of sustenance from Him.
3:170  They are delighted in what Allâh has bestowed upon them of His bounty, getting good news regarding those (who will be martyred) after them, who have not joined them yet - that there will come no fear upon them, nor will they ever grieve.
3:171  They are getting joyful news of favor and bounty from Allâh, and that Allâh will not allow the reward of the ‘Monotheistic Believers’ to be lost.
3:172  Those are the ones who responded to (the call of) Allâh and the ‘Messenger’ after injury had struck them. For those who did good among them, and acted piously toward Allâh, will receive a great reward (from Allâh).
3:173  Those unto whom the people said: "Indeed, the people have gathered against you, so fear them." Nevertheless, the threat of danger invigorated their faith and they said: “Allâh is Sufficient for us. He is the best Disposer of affairs on Whom we depend with full trust!
3:174  Thus, they returned with grace and favor from Allâh. No evil ever touched them, as they follow the good pleasure of Allâh. He is the Lord of Great Bounty.
3:175  It is only ‘Satan’ who tried to frighten you with his supporters. Thus, do not fear them but show honor and reverence for Me if you are true believers (of unfeigned faith).
3:176  Let not those who hasten into disbelief in Allâh sadden you. Indeed, they can do no harm to Allâh at all. Allâh desires not to appoint for them any share in the ‘Hereafter’. They will be subjected to a great punishment in the ‘Hereafter’.
3:177  Indeed, those who purchase disbelief in Allâh at the price of Faith can do no harm to Allâh at all. They will be subjected to an extremely painful punishment in the ‘Hereafter’.
3:178  Let not those who are inclined to disbelieve (in Allâh) think that our respite to them is good for themselves. We only extend it for them so that they may add sins to their sins. They will be subjected to an extremely disgraceful punishment (in the ‘Hereafter’).
3:179  Allâh will not leave the ‘Monotheistic Believers’ in the state which you are in until He separates the evil from the good. Nor will He reveal unto you the secrets of the Unseen. But Allâh chooses of His ‘Messengers’ whom He wills. Thus, place your Faith in Allâh and His ‘Messengers’. If you adhere firmly to Islamic monotheism and act piously, then you will have a great reward.
3:180  Let not those who hoard up what Allâh has bestowed upon them of His bounty think that it is good for them. Nay, it will be the worse for them as their necks will be encircled on the ‘Day of Resurrection’ by that which they hoard up. Unto Allâh belongs the heritage of the heavens and of the earth. Allâh is Well Acquainted with all that you do.
3:181  Verily, Allâh heard the saying of those who said: "Indeed, Allâh is poor, while we are rich." We will record what they say and their act of killing the ‘Prophets’ unjustly. Then We will say unto them: “Savor the punishment of the burning Fire.”
3:182  This is because of what your hands have put forth. Indeed, Allâh would never be iniquitous towards His servants.
3:183  The same are those who say: “Allâh took our promise not to believe in any ‘Messenger’ unless he shows us a sacrifice consumed by Fire (from the heavens).” Verily, there came to you ‘Messengers’ before me, with knowledge of truth and even with what you speak of. Why, then, did you slay them if you were truthful in your claim?"
3:184  If it happens that they belie you (O’ Muhammad, grieve not) as so many ‘Messengers’ before you were belied, who came to them with the knowledge of truth, with the ‘Psalms’ and with the ‘Enlightening Scripture’.
3:185  Every ‘Human Self’ is destined to taste death. You only be paid fully your reward on the ‘Day of Resurrection’. Whoever is removed away from the Fire and admitted into ‘Al- Jannah’ has ultimately achieved a blissful life/or gained eternal salvation. (Know that this) ‘worldly life’ is not more than a provision of vanities..
3:186  We will let you experience hardship in your possessions and in yourselves. You will surely hear much annoying words from those who were given the ‘Scripture’ before you, and from those who are ‘Polytheists’, but if you persist in patience and constancy and act piously towards Allâh: This will be a sign of firm determination.
3:187  Behold! Allâh took a covenant from the ‘People of the Scripture’ to make it clear to the people, not to conceal it. But they hurl it forcefully behind their backs and exchanged it for a small price. Therefore, evil is that which they have purchased.
3:188  Think not that those who express joy in what they have done, and love to be praised for what they themselves have not done, are safety from divine punishment. For lo! They will be subjected to an extremely painful punishment (in the ‘Hereafter’).
3:189  Unto Allâh belongs the (Absolute) Sovereignty of the heavens and of the earth. Allâh is capable of doing whatever He wills.
3:190  Indeed, in the creation of the heavens and earth, in the alternation of the night and day, are signs (of Allâh’s power & glory) for those who possess high self- awareness.
3:191  Those who celebrate the praise of Allâh and declare His indefinite glory, while standing or sitting or lying on their sides, and contemplate the creation of the heavens and earth, (say): "Our Lord, You created not this (‘world’) in vain. Exalted are You. Guard us against the punishment of the Fire.
3:192  Our Lord, indeed the one whom You cause him to enter the Fire, You have disgraced him. There will be none to offer help for those who are grossly unfair and morally wrong.
3:193  Our Lord, indeed we have heard a crier calling unto Faith, saying: ‘Have Faith in your Lord.’ Thus, we attain to faith. Our Lord, redeem us from our sins, deliver us from all our evil deeds, and cause us to die with the righteous.
3:194  Our Lord, vouchsafe us what You have promised us through Your ‘Messengers’, disgrace us not on the ‘Day of Resurrection’. Indeed, You are the One Who never fails to fulfill His promise.”
3:195  Thus, their Lord responded to them: "Never will I let the work of any worker among you be lost in vain, whether male or female. You are all related to one another. Those who migrated, those who were forced to leave their homes, those who were persecuted in (serving) My cause, and those who fought (bravely) and were slain, I will deliver them from all the consequences of their sins, and admit them into Gardens beneath which rivers flow as reward from Allâh. From Allâh comes the best reward.
3:196  Let not the inconstancy of those who excessively indulge in disbelief (in Allâh) throughout the land deceive you.
3:197  It is but a brief opportunity for joy. Hellfire is their eternal refuge. Dreadful is the abode!
3:198  But, those who act piously towards their Lord will have Gardens beneath which rivers flow. They will remain therein forever as generous reception and entertainment from Allâh, and that which is with Allâh is best for the ‘Pure in Heart’.
3:199  Indeed, among the ‘People of the Scripture’ are those who believe in Allâh, in that which is revealed unto you and in that which was revealed unto them. They humble themselves before Allâh and exchange not the (Holy) ‘Verses’ of Allâh for a small price. Those will have their reward with their Lord. Indeed, Allâh is too swift at reckoning.
3:200  O you who adhere firmly to monotheism, resort to patience and constancy, outdo all others in endurance, remain stationed, and act piously towards Allâh, so that you may ultimately achieve a blissful life/or gain eternal salvation.
