52:1  By the Mount [Sinai]
52:2  by the Book inscribe
52:3  on an unrolled parchment
52:4  by the House greatly frequented
52:5  by the vault raised high
52:6  by the surging sea
52:7  indeed your Lord’s punishment will surely befall
52:8  There is none who can avert it
52:9  On the day when the sky whirls violently
52:10  and the mountains move with an awful motion
52:11  woe to the deniers on that da
52:12  —those who play around in vain talk
52:13  the day when they will be shoved toward the fire of hell forcibly
52:14  [and told:] ‘This is the Fire which you used to deny!’
52:15  Is this then magic, or is it you who do not perceive
52:16  ‘Enter it, and whether you are patient or impatient it will be the same for you. You are only being requited for what you used to do.’
52:17  Indeed the Godwary will be amid gardens and bliss
52:18  rejoicing because of what their Lord has given them, and that their Lord has saved them from the punishment of hell
52:19  [They will be told:] ‘Enjoy your food and drink, [as a reward] for what you used to do.’
52:20  They will be reclining on arrayed couches, and We will wed them to big-eyed houris
52:21  The faithful and their descendants who followed them in faith —We will make their descendants join them, and We will not stint anything from [the reward of] their deeds. Every man is a hostage to what he has earned
52:22  We will provide them with fruits and meat, such as they desire
52:23  There they will pass from hand to hand a cup wherein there will be neither any vain talk nor sinful speech
52:24  They will be waited upon by youths, their own, as if they were guarded pearls
52:25  They will turn to one another, questioning each other
52:26  They will say, ‘Indeed, aforetime, we used to be apprehensive about our families
52:27  But Allah showed us favour and He saved us from the punishment of the [infernal] miasma
52:28  indeed we used to supplicate Him aforetime. Indeed He is the All-benign, the All-merciful.’
52:29  So admonish. By your Lord’s blessing, you are not a soothsayer, nor mad
52:30  Do they say, ‘[He is] a poet, for whom we await a fatal accident’
52:31  Say, ‘Wait! I too am waiting along with you.’
52:32  Is it their intellect which prompts them to [say] this, or are they a rebellious lot
52:33  Do they say, ‘He has improvised it [himself]?’ Rather they have no faith
52:34  Let them bring a discourse like it, if they are truthful
52:35  Were they created from nothing? Or are they [their own] creators
52:36  Did they create the heavens and the earth? Rather they have no certainty
52:37  Do they possess the treasuries of your Lord? Or are they the controllers [of their dispensation]
52:38  Do they have a ladder [leading up to heaven] whereby they eavesdrop? If so let their eavesdropper produce a manifest authority
52:39  Does He have daughters while you have sons
52:40  Do you ask them for a reward, so that they are weighed down with debt
52:41  Do they have [access to] the Unseen, which they write down
52:42  Do they seek to outmaneuver [Allah]? But it is the faithless who are the outmaneuvered ones
52:43  Do they have any god other than Allah? Clear is Allah of any partners that they may ascribe [to Him]
52:44  Were they to see a fragment falling from the sky, they would say, ‘A cumulous cloud.’
52:45  So leave them until they encounter their day on which they will be thunderstruck
52:46  the day when their guile will not avail them in any way, nor will they be helped
52:47  Indeed for those who do wrong, there is a punishment besides that, but most of them do not know
52:48  So submit patiently to the judgement of your Lord, for indeed you fare before Our eyes. And celebrate the praise of your Lord when you rise [at dawn]
52:49  and also glorify Him during the night and at the receding of the stars
