33:1
O’ Prophet! Act piously towards Allâh and don’t yield (to the whims) of those who refuse to Yield to the Truth and those who indulge in hypocrisy. And most certainly Allâh is All-Knowing, All-Wise.
33:2
And yield to that which is revealed to you of the Knowledge of the Truth from your Lord. And most certainly Allâh is All-Aware of whatever you do.
33:3
And depend on Allâh with full trust, for Allâh is sufficient as a Trustee of Affairs.
33:4
Allâh has not placed two hearts inside any person, nor has He made lawful for you to regard your wives whom you divorce as your mothers, nor has He made lawful for you to regard the children whom you adopt as your (real) children. Such are the sayings which you utter with their own mouths. But Allâh speaks the truth and guides to the path of Truth.
33:5
(As for your adopted children), call them by (the names of) their fathers. That is more equitable in the sight of Allâh. And if you don’t know the names of their fathers, then regard them as your fellow believers and close associates. However, you would not be at fault for any mistake you make in this matter unless you do so intentionally. And Allâh is Ever Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.
33:6
The Prophet is closer to the Monotheistic Believers of unfeigned faith than their own selves, and his Wives are their Mothers. And those related by blood, kinsmen are more eligible (to inherit) in the ordinance of Allâh than (other) believers and those who fled (from Mecca) unless you desire to show kindness to your close friends (and bequeath some of your property to them). This is all written in the Book (of Degrees- the Preserved Tablet) .
33:7
And (Mention), when We took from the Prophets their covenant: As We did from you, and from Noah, Abraham, Moses and Jesus, son of Mary. We took from them a solemn covenant
33:8
So that He may question the truthful about their truth. And He has prepared a painful punishment for those who have no Faith in Allâh.
33:9
O’ you who live by Faith! recall the grace of your Lord upon you when there came against you men of arms. We unleashed against them a fierce wind and (Angelic) armies that you could not see. And Allâh is Ever All-Seer of whatsoever you do.
33:10
And (Mention) when they came on you from above and from below, and when your eyes shifted in terror, your hearts leapt up to your throats, and you began to harbour doubts about Allâh.
33:11
There the Monotheistic Believers encountered hardship, and were severely shaken.
33:12
And (Mention) when those who indulge in hypocrisy and those in whose hearts is a disease were saying: "Allâh and His Messenger promised us nothing but deception".
33:13
A group among them said: “O’ people of Yathrib, there is no place for you to stay, thus, turn back". (Another) group among them asked the permission of the Prophet, saying: “Our homes are vulnerable (to danger)", whereas they were not . Actually, they just wanted to run away.
33:14
If it should happen that the enemy were capable of entering (the city) from all sides, and those (Hypocrites) were tempted to disavow their faith, they would have done it without hesitation.
33:15
Verily they had already made a covenant with Allâh that they would not turn around and flee. (Making) a covenant with Allâh is a great commitment.
33:16
Say: “Fleeing will never ever avail you. However, if it happens that you flee from death or slaughter, then you will be given enjoyment only for a little while".
33:17
Say: " ‘Who is it that can keep you out of reach of Allâh if He wills to harm you or show Mercy?”. They won’t find for themselves a guardian or a helper besides Allâh.
33:18
Allâh knows well those among you who impede others, and those who say to their brothers: 'Come to us', and they seldom join the fight,
33:19
Being niggardly towards you. When fear touches them, you see them looking at you, their eyes rotating like one swooning of death. But once the fear vanishes they rebuke you with sharp tongues, being too reluctant to give away from their wealth. Those have never adhered to Faith and so Allâh caused their deeds to be nullified. And that is easy enough for Allâh.
33:20
They think that the confederate tribes have not yet withdrawn. Verily, if it should happen that the confederate tribes would advance (again), they would wish they were in the desert among the Bedouin Arabs, asking for news about you. Even if they were among you, only a few of them would join the fight.
33:21
Verily, in the Messenger of Allâh, you have an excellent epitome for any one whose hope in Allâh and the Last Day, and who celebrates the praise of Allâh and declares His absolute majesty and glory frequently.
33:22
And when the Monotheistic Believers of unfeigned faith saw the confederate tribes, they said: “This is what Allâh and His Messenger promised us. And Allâh and His Messenger have spoken the truth". And this only invigorated their Faith and their submission (to Allâh).
33:23
Among the Monotheistic Believers of unfeigned Faith, there are men who are true to their covenant with Allâh. Some of them have already passed away, whereas others are still waiting. And they have never yielded to a temptation or evil desires.
33:24
And Most certainly Allâh will reward the truthful ones for their truthfulness, and chastise or forgive those who indulge in hypocrisy as He desires. And Most certainly Allâh is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.
33:25
And Allâh drove back those who have no Faith in Him in their rage, so they failed to achieve their goals. And Sufficient was Allâh for the Monotheistic Believers in fighting. And most certainly, Allâh is Ever All-Strong, the Almighty.
33:26
And those of the People of the Book who had supported them, Allâh brought them down from their fortresses and cast terror into their hearts. Some of them you slew and others you took captive.
33:27
He caused you to inherit their land, houses and possessions, as well as a land which you had not trodden (before). And Allâh is Most Capable of doing whatsoever He desires.
33:28
O’ Prophet, say to your Wives, “If it happens that you desire this worldly life and its adornment, then come, let me compensate you equitably and allow you to go in an amicable manner!
33:29
However, if you prefer Allâh and His Messenger, as well as the eternal abode of the Hereafter, (then you can rest assured that) Allâh has prepared for those who pursue righteousness and perfection in Faith a mighty reward.
33:30
O’ Wives of the Prophet, Whoever of you commits an act of gross indecency, the retribution will be doubled for her. And that is ever easy for Allâh.
33:31
And Whoever of you yields to the Commandments of Allâh and to what He has revealed to His Messenger and strives to do righteous acts, We shall give her a twofold reward and prepare for her an opulent sustenance.
33:32
O’ Wives of the Prophet, you are not like any other women. If you (intend to be a model of) Pious behavior, then do not speak softly (to men), lest he in whose heart is disease should covet, but speak in decent and respectable way.
33:33
Then stay (peacefully) in your houses and don’t unleash your feminine charm like that of the former times of ignorance. Establish the regular Prayer, pay Zakāt and yield to the Commandments of Allâh and to what He has revealed to His Messenger. Verily, Allâh intends to keep the impurity away from you, O’ People of the Household (of the Prophet), and purify you with utter purification.
33:34
Remember what is recited in your houses of the (Holy) Verses of Allâh and of the words of wisdom. And Most certainly Allâh is All-Subtle, All-Aware.
33:35
Lo! Allâh has prepared Forgiveness and magnificent reward for Muslim men and Muslim women, monotheistic men and monotheistic women, obedient men and obedient women, truthful men and truthful women, forbearing men and forbearing women, humble men and humble women, philanthropic men and philanthropic women, men who fast and women who fast, men who guard their chastity and women who guard their their chastity, men who celebrate the praise of Allâh very often and women who celebrate the praise of Allâh very often.
33:36
It is not adequate for a monotheistic believer, man or woman, when a matter has been decided by Allâh and His Messenger to have any choice regarding their decision. If it happens that any one refuses to yield to the Commandments of Allâh and to what He has revealed to His Messenger, (he’ll need to know that) he or she has fallen far away form the Faith.
33:37
And (recall the time) when you said to the one to whom Allâh had shown favor and yourself have shown favour: "Retain your wife for yourself and act piously towards Allâh". But you strove to hide in your heart that which Allâh was about to divulge. You were so much concerned about (what) the people (would say), whereas you should be more concerned about what Allâh (has commanded you). So when Zayd dissolved her marriage-tie, We gave her in marriage to you so that there would be no impediment for the monotheistic believer from getting married to the wives of their adopted sons when they dissolved their marriage-tie. The commandment of Allâh is bound to be fulfilled.
33:38
There is no limitation for the Prophet in what Allâh has made it lawful for him. That has been the way of Allâh with those who have gone before. The command of Allâh is preordained destiny.
33:39
(Allâh exalted) those (Prophets) who conveyed His Messages (to the people) and showed honor and reverence for Him, and held none in awe but Him. And Sufficient is Allâh in keeping the account.
33:40
Muhammad is not the father of any man among you. But he is the Messenger of Allâh and the Seal of the Prophets. And Allâh has the perfect Knowledge of all things.
33:41
O’ you who live by Faith! celebrate the praise of Allâh frequently,
33:42
And declare His glorify day and night.
33:43
He is the One Who sends blessing upon you, and (so do) His Angels so as to bring you out of the darkness (of ignorance) into the Light (of the Knowledge of His Glory). And He is the Most Merciful to the Monotheistic Believers (of unfeigned Faith).
33:44
Their salutation on the day when they will meet Him will be "Peace". He has prepared for them a bounteous reward.
33:45
O’ Prophet, Surely We have sent you as a witness, and as a herald of glad tidings and one who gives warning,
33:46
And as one who invites to Allâh, by His permission, and as an illuminating lamp.
33:47
Give the glad tidings to the Monotheistic Believers that they will have great bounty from Allâh.
33:48
And don’t yield (to the whims) of those who are inclined to deny the Truth and those who indulge in hypocrisy. Ignore their annoyances. Depend on Allâh with full trust. And Sufficient is Allâh as a Trustee of Affairs.
33:49
O’ you who live by Faith! when you wed monotheistic women and then divorce them before touching them, they don’t have to comply with the waiting period. But compensate them equitably and let them go (peacefully) in an amicable manner.
33:50
O’ Prophet, We have made lawful for you your wives to whom you have given their due their dowries, and those whom your right hand possesses of those whom Allâh has given you as spoils of war, as well as the daughters of your paternal uncle, the daughters of your paternal aunts, the daughters of your maternal uncle, the daughters of your maternal aunts who migrated (from Mecca) with you, and a monotheistic woman if she offers herself to the Prophet, and the Prophet desires to wed her, a privilege for you only, not for the (rest of) the Monotheistic Believers. And We already know very well what We have ordained for them concerning their wives and those whom their right hands possess so that there will be no blame on you. And Allâh is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.
33:51
You may defer whom you desire of them or take to yourself whom you desire. Whomsoever you desire of those whom you have set aside, there will be no blame on you (in receiving her). That is more adequate so that they may be comforted and may not grieve, and that every one of them should be well-pleased with what you give her. And Allâh has full knowledge of what is stored up in your hearts. And Allâh is All-Knowing, Most Forbearing.
33:52
It is not lawful for you to take more wives or exchange the present wives for other women, even though their beauty might enamor you, save those whom your right hand possesses. And Allâh is ever Watchful over all things.
33:53
O’ you who live by Faith, don’t enter the houses of the Prophet unless permission is given to you for a meal, not waiting for its preparation. However, when you are invited, enter, and when you have taken your meals, disperse without seeking to remain there or to strike up a conversation. Indeed, such (behavior) annoys the Prophet and he feels embarrassed to ask you (to leave. But Allâh is not embarrassed to tell you the truth. So when you want to ask something from the Wives of the Prophet, ask them from behind a curtain. This is more perspicuous for your hearts and theirs. You are not supposed to give trouble to the Prophet or to ever wed his Wives after his death. Absolutely, that would be, in the sight of Allâh, an atrocious thing.
33:54
Whether you disclose a thing or conceal it, indeed, Allâh is All-Knowing of everything.
33:55
There is no blame (on the Prophet’s Wives if they appear unveiled) before their fathers, or their sons, or their brothers, or the sons of their brothers, or the sons of their sisters, or their fellow Muslim women, or of what their right hands possess. So (O’ Muslim women), act piously towards Allâh. Indeed, Allâh is Ever All-Witness over everything.
33:56
Verily Allâh and His Angels send blessings on the Prophet. O’ you who adhere to absolute Monotheism, call for blessings on him and salute him with the salutation of Peace.
33:57
Surely those who annoy Allâh and His Messenger- Allâh has deprived them of His Mercy in this worldly life and the Hereafter, and prepared for them a humiliating chastisement.
33:58
As for those who cause any harm to the monotheistic men or the monotheistic women undeservedly, they will bear (on themselves) the guilt of defamation and blatant sin.
33:59
O’ Prophet, tell your Wives and Daughters, as well as the monotheistic women to draw their veils close to them. It will be much better so that they will be recognized and not be harassed. And Allâh is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.
33:60
And If it happens that those who indulge in hypocrisy and those in whose hearts is a disease and those who spread rumors in Madinah don’t give up (such behavior), We will certainly incite you against them. Then they won’t remain your neighbors therein any longer.
33:61
(They are ) accursed wherever they are found. They will be seized and slain violently.
33:62
That was the way of Allâh concerning those who have gone before you. So you will find no change in the way of Allâh.
33:63
People ask you concerning the Hour, say: “The knowledge thereof lies only with Allâh. You never know, perhaps, the Hour is near.
33:64
And most certainly Allâh has deprived those who have no Faith in Him of His Mercy and prepared for them a blazing Fire.
33:65
They will abide therein. They won’t find a protector or a helper.
33:66
On the day when their faces are turned about in the Fire they shall say: "Oh, if only we had yielded to (the command of) Allâh and yielded to (what He revealed to) the Messenger."
33:67
And they shall say: "Our Lord, we actually yielded to (whims of) our chiefs and and elders and so they deceived us into going away from the (right) path.
33:68
Our Lord, give them a double punishment and anathematize them with an immense curse."
33:69
O’ you who live by Faith, don’t be like those who vilified Moses, but Allâh absolved him of what they alleged. And he was, in the sight of Allâh, a venerable person.
33:70
O’ you who live by Faith, act piously towards Allâh and speak with integrity.
33:71
He will rectify your deeds for you and deliver you from all the consequences of your iniquitous deeds. Whoever yields to (the command of) Allâh and to (what He revealed to) His Messenger has truly achieved the most ultimate success and the supreme one.
33:72
Verily We offered the Trust to the heavens, to the earth, and to the mountains, but they declined the assignment and were apprehensive of it. And Man undertook it. Most surely he was unfair and ignorant.
33:73
So Allâh will punish the hypocritical men and the hypocritical women, the polytheistic men and the polytheistic women, and Allâh will turn in Mercy to the monotheistic men and monotheistic women. And Allâh is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.
