24:1
A chapter, We sent it down and We have enjoined it, and We sent down in it signs, clear proofs; perhaps you may remember.
24:2
The fornicatress and the fornicator, then flog each one of them a hundred lashes. And do not let pity for them take hold of you in the religion of God, if you believe in God and the Last Day; and let a party of the believers witness their punishment.
24:3
The fornicator shall marry none except a fornicatress or an idolatress; and the fornicatress none shall marry her except a fornicator or an idolater; and that is forbidden to the believers.
24:4
And those who accuse the chaste women then did not come with four witnesses, then flog them eighty lashes, and do not accept for them a testimony ever, and those, they are the disobedient.
24:5
Except those who repented after that and reformed, then indeed, God is forgiving, compassionate.
24:6
And those who accuse their wives and there are no witnesses for them except themselves, then the testimony of one of them is four testimonies: by God, indeed, he is surely among the truthful;
24:7
And the fifth that the curse of God be on him if he is among the liars.
24:8
And it will avert the punishment from her that she testifies four testimonies: by God, indeed, he is surely among the liars;
24:9
And the fifth that the anger of God be on her if he is among the truthful.
24:10
And if not for the grace of God upon you and His mercy, and that God is relenting, wise.
24:11
Indeed, those who came with the lie are a band among you. Do not think it evil for you, nay, it is good for you; for every person among them is what he earned of the sin; and the one who undertook its greatness among them, for him is great punishment.
24:12
If only when you heard it, the believing men and the believing women thought good in their souls and said, 'This is a clear lie.'
24:13
If only they came with four witnesses upon it. Then when they did not come with the witnesses, then those with God, they are the liars.
24:14
And if not for the grace of God upon you and His mercy in the world and the hereafter, a great punishment would surely have touched you concerning that which you spread abroad.
24:15
When you received it with your tongues and said with your mouths that which you had no knowledge of. And you thought it insignificant, while it is great with God.
24:16
And if only you when you heard it, you said, 'It is not for us to speak of this. Glory be to You. This is a great slander.'
24:17
God admonishes you that you return to like it ever, if you are believers;
24:18
And God makes the signs clear for you, and God is knowing, wise.
24:19
Indeed, those who love to spread the immorality among those who believed, for them is painful punishment in the world and the hereafter; and God knows, while you do not know.
24:20
And if not for the grace of God upon you and His mercy and that God is pitying, compassionate.
24:21
O those who believed! Do not follow the footsteps of the devil. And whoever follows the footsteps of the devil, then indeed he, he commands the immorality and the bad. And if not for the grace of God upon you and His mercy, not one of you would have been pure, ever, but God purifies whom He wills, and God is hearing, knowing.
24:22
And let not the possessors of grace and abundance among you forswear that they will give the relatives and the poor and the emigrants in the way of God. And let them pardon and let them overlook. Do you not love that God forgives you? And God is forgiving, compassionate.
24:23
Indeed, those who accuse the chaste heedless believing women are cursed in the world and the hereafter; and for them is great punishment.
24:24
On the day their tongues and their hands and their feet will testify against them for what they used to do.
24:25
On that day, God will pay them in full their judgment, the truth; and they will know that God, He is the clear truth.
24:26
The bad women for the bad men, and the bad men for the bad women; and the good women for the good men, and the good men for the good women. Those are clear of what they say, for them is forgiveness and a noble provision.
24:27
O those who believed! Do not enter houses other than your houses until you inform yourself and you greet on their people, that is better for you; perhaps you may remember.
24:28
Then if you do not find anyone in them, then do not enter them until permission is given to you. And if it is said to you, 'Go back,' then go back, it is purer for you; and God knows what you do.
24:29
There is no crime against you that you enter uninhabited houses in which is a provision for you. And God knows what you show and what you conceal.
24:30
Say to the believers they should lower their eyes, and they should guard their private parts; that is purer for them; indeed, God is aware of what they do.
24:31
And say to the believing women they should lower their eyes and they should guard their private parts, and they should not show their adornment except what is apparent of it; and let them make their head coverings fall upon their bosoms, and they should not show their adornment except to their husbands, or their fathers, or the fathers of their husbands, or their sons, or the sons of their husbands, or their brothers, or the sons of their brothers, or the sons of their sisters, or their women, or what their right hands possess, or the followers not the possessors of intelligence among the men, or the child, those to whom the pudenda of women is not apparent; and they should not strike with their feet that what they conceal of their adornment may be known. And repent to God all together, O believers! Perhaps you may prosper.
24:32
And marry the widow/widower among you, and the righteous among your male servants and your female servants. If they are needy, God will enrich them from His grace; and God is immense, knowing.
24:33
And let those who do not find marriage abstain until God enriches them from His grace. And those who seek the writing among what your right hands possess, then write for them if you know good in them, and give them from the wealth of God which He gave you. And do not compel your maids to prostitution if they desire chastity, that you may seek the goods of the worldly life; and whoever compels them, then indeed, God after their compulsion is forgiving, compassionate.
24:34
And surely, certainly We have sent down to you clear signs and a similitude of those who passed away before you and an admonition for those who fear.
24:35
God is the light of the heavens and the earth. The similitude of His light is like a niche, in it is a lamp; the lamp is in a glass, the glass is as if it were a glittering star kindled from a blessed tree, an olive tree, not eastern and not western, its oil almost gives light even if fire did not touch it, light upon light. God guides to His light whom He wills. And God strikes the similitudes for mankind. And God knows everything.
24:36
In houses God permitted to be raised and that His name may be remembered in them; give glory to Him in them in the early morning and the evening,
24:37
Men, merchandise does not divert them nor trade from the remembrance of God and the being steadfast in the prayer and the giving of the alms. They fear a day in which the hearts and the eyes will turn about;
24:38
That God may recompense them the best of what they did and give them more of His grace. And God provides for whom He wills without reckoning.
24:39
And those who disbelieved, their works are like a mirage in a plain, the thirsty one thinks it water until when he comes to it, he finds it nothing; and he finds God with him, then He pays him his reckoning in full, and God is swift in the reckoning.
24:40
Or like darknesses in a deep sea, there covers it a wave above which is a wave, above which is a cloud, darknesses some of it above some. When he brings out his hand he can almost not see it. And one whom God did not make light for him, then there is no light for him.
24:41
Did you not see that God, whoever is in the heavens and the earth gives glory to Him, and the birds expanding their wings? Each certainly knows its prayer and its glorification, and God knows what they do.
24:42
And for God is the kingdom of the heavens and the earth. And to God is the destination.
24:43
Did you not see that God drives a cloud, then He unites between it, then He makes it a heap, then you see the rain come forth from its midst? And He sends down hail from the heaven, from mountains in it, then He hits whom He wills with it, and He turns it away from whom He wills. The flash of His lightning almost takes away the sight.
24:44
God turns over the night and the day. Indeed, in that surely is a lesson for the possessors of eyes.
24:45
And God created every creature from water, then among them is one who walks on its belly, and among them is one who walks on two feet, and among them is one who walks on four. God creates what He wills; indeed, God is powerful over everything.
24:46
Surely, certainly We have sent down clear signs. And God guides whom He wills to a straight way.
24:47
And they say, 'We have believed in God and in the messenger, and We have obeyed.' Then a party of them turn away after that. And those are not with the believers.
24:48
And when they are called to God and His messenger, that He may judge between them, behold, a party of them turn away.
24:49
And if the truth is for them, they come to him submitting.
24:50
Is there a sickness in their hearts, or do they doubt, or do they fear that God and His messenger will wrong them? Nay, those, they are the wrongdoers.
24:51
The speech of the believers when they are called to God and His messenger to judge between them, is only that they say, 'We have heard and we have obeyed.' And those, they are the prosperous.
24:52
And whoever obeys God and His messenger and fears God and fears Him, then those, they are the successful.
24:53
And they swore by God the utmost of their oaths, surely if you command them, surely, they would definitely go forth. Say, 'Do not swear. Good obedience. Indeed, God is aware of what you do.'
24:54
Say, 'Obey God and obey the messenger.’ Then if you turn away, then upon him is only what he is made to bear and upon you is what you are made to bear. And if you obey him, you will be guided. And not except the clear communication is upon the messenger.
24:55
God has promised those among you who believed and did good works, surely, He will definitely appoint them as successors in the earth as He appointed those who were before them as successors, and surely, He will definitely establish for them their religion which He is pleased with for them, and surely, He will definitely substitute for them safety after their fear. They serve Me, they do not associate anything with Me. And whoever disbelieved after that, then those, they are the disobedient.
24:56
And be steadfast in the prayer and give the alms and obey the messenger, perhaps you may obtain mercy.
24:57
Definitely do not think those who disbelieved will escape in the earth. And their refuge is the fire, and surely evil is the destination.
24:58
O those who believed! Let those whom your right hands possess, and those who did not attain puberty among you, ask for your permission three times: before the prayer of dawn, and when you lay aside your garments at noon, and after the prayer of nightfall; three times of privacy for you. There is no crime against you nor against them making the circuit upon you, some of you upon some after them. Thus God makes the signs clear for you; and God is knowing, wise.
24:59
And when the children among you attain puberty, then let them ask for permission as those who were before them asked for permission. Thus God makes His signs clear for you; and God is knowing, wise.
24:60
And the postmenopausal among the women, the ones who do not hope for marriage, then there is no crime against them that they lay aside their garments, not displaying adornment; and that they abstain is better for them; and God is hearing, knowing.
24:61
There is no straitness on the blind, and no straitness on the lame, and no straitness on the sick, nor upon yourselves that you eat from your houses, or the houses of your fathers, or the houses of your mothers, or the houses of your brothers, or the houses of your sisters, or the houses of your paternal uncles, or the houses of your paternal aunts, or the houses of your maternal uncles, or the houses of your maternal aunts, or what you possess its keys, or your friend. There is no crime against you that you eat all together or separately. Then when you enter houses, then greet on yourselves a greeting from God, blessed, good. Thus God makes the signs clear for you, perhaps you may become intelligent.
24:62
The believers are only those who believed in God and His messenger, and when they are with him upon a general affair, they do not go until they ask for his permission; indeed, those who ask for your permission, those are the ones who believe in God and His messenger. Then when they ask for your permission for some business of theirs, then give permission to whom you will among them, and seek God’s forgiveness for them; indeed, God is forgiving, compassionate.
24:63
Do not make the call of the messenger between you like the call of some of you to some. Certainly, God knows those who slip away among you to take refuge. So let those who disobey his command beware lest a trial befalls them or a painful punishment befalls them.
24:64
Lo, indeed, for God is what is in the heavens and the earth. Certainly, He knows that which you are upon; and on the day they will be returned to Him, then He will inform them of what they did, and God knows everything.
