8:1  They ask you about the spoils. Say, 'The spoils are for God and the messenger.' So fear God and act righteously among yourselves and obey God and His messenger if you are believers.
8:2  The believers are only those who when God is mentioned, their hearts become afraid, and when His signs are recited to them, they increase them in faith; and on their Lord they rely;
8:3  Those who are steadfast in the prayer, and of what We have provided them they spend.
8:4  Those, they in truth are the believers; for them are degrees with their Lord, and forgiveness, and a generous provision.
8:5  As your Lord brought you out from your house with the truth, and indeed a party of the believers were surely averse.
8:6  They wrangle with you about the truth after what was made clear, as though they were being driven to death while they were looking on.
8:7  And when God promised you one of the two parties, that it would be for you, and you wished that not the possessor of weapons would be for you; and God desired to prove the truth true by His words, and cut off the roots of the disbelievers.
8:8  To prove the truth true, and to make vain the vain, although the sinners are averse.
8:9  When you sought aid from your Lord, and He answered you, 'Indeed, I will reinforce you with a thousand of the angels following closely behind.'
8:10  God made it only glad tidings and to quiet your hearts with it; and help is only from God. Indeed, God is mighty, wise.
8:11  When He covered you with drowsiness, a security from Him, and He sent down upon you from the sky water to purify you with it, and remove from you the uncleanness of the devil, and to strengthen your hearts and make firm your feet with it.
8:12  When your Lord inspired to the angels, 'Indeed, I am with you; so make firm those who believed; I will cast terror into the hearts of those who disbelieved, so strike above the necks, and strike from them every finger.'
8:13  That, because they split from God and His messenger. And whoever splits from God and His messenger, then indeed, God is severe in punishment.
8:14  That, so taste it; and that for the disbelievers is the punishment of the fire.
8:15  O those who believed! When you meet those who disbelieved in swarms, then do not turn to them the backs.
8:16  And whoever turns his back that day to them, except turning to fight or rallying to a troop, then certainly, he has returned with anger of God, and his abode is Hell, and evil is the destination.
8:17  And you did not slay them, but God slew them; and you threw not when you threw, but God threw, and to try the believers with a good trial from Him; indeed, God is hearing, knowing.
8:18  That, and that God weakens the plot of the disbelievers.
8:19  If you ask for victory, then certainly, the victory has come to you. And if you desist, then it is better for you; and if you return, We will return. And your troop will not avail you anything, even if it is numerous. And that God is with the believers.
8:20  O those who believed! Obey God and His messenger, and do not turn away from Him while you hear.
8:21  And do not be like those who say, 'We heard,' while they do not hear.
8:22  Indeed, the worst of creatures with God are the deaf, the dumb, those who are not intelligent.
8:23  And if God had known good in them, surely He would have made them hear; and if He had made them hear, surely they would have turned away, while they swerved aside.
8:24  O those who believed! Respond to God and His messenger when He calls you to what gives you life; and know that God comes in between man and his heart; and that to Him you shall be gathered.
8:25  And fear a trial which will not befall especially those of you who have done wrong; and know that God is severe in punishment.
8:26  And remember when you were few and weak in the earth, fearing that the people would snatch you away; then He sheltered you and strengthened you with His help, and provided you of the good things; perhaps you may give thanks.
8:27  O those who believed! Do not be treacherous to God and the messenger; nor be treacherous to your trusts while you know.
8:28  And know that your wealth and your children are a trial, and that God, with Him is a great reward.
8:29  O those who believed! If you fear God, He will make for you a discrimination, and He will cover from you your evil deeds, and He will forgive you; and God is the possessor of great grace.
8:30  And when those who disbelieved plotted against you to confine you or kill you or drive you out; and they plot, and God plots, and God is the best of the plotters.
8:31  And when Our verses were recited to them they said, 'Verily, we have heard. Had we willed, surely we would have said the like of this; this is not except legends of the former people.'
8:32  And when they said, 'O God! If this is the truth from you, then rain upon us stones from the sky or bring us painful punishment.'
8:33  But God would not punish them while you are amongst them; and God would not punish them while they seek forgiveness.
8:34  But what ails them that God should not punish them while they hinder from the Sacred Mosque, and they are not its guardians; its guardians are only those who fear, but most of them do not know.
8:35  And their prayer at the House was not except whistling and clapping. So taste the punishment for that you disbelieved.
8:36  Indeed, those who disbelieved spend their wealth to hinder from the way of God; and soon they will spend it, then it shall be for them a regret, then they shall be overcome. And those who disbelieved to Hell they shall be gathered.
8:37  That God may distinguish the bad from the good, and put the bad, some of it on the other, and heap it all up together, and put it in Hell. Those they are the losers.
8:38  Say to those who disbelieved, if they desist, what verily is past will be forgiven them; and if they return, then verily the course of the former people has passed.
8:39  And fight them until there is no trial and the religion, all of it, is for God; and if they desist, then indeed, God sees what they do.
8:40  And if they turn away, then know that God is your sovereign; excellent is the sovereign and excellent is the helper.
8:41  And know that whatever thing you take as spoils, then that, to God belongs a fifth of it, and to the messenger and to the relatives and the orphans and the poor and the wayfarer; if you believe in God and what We have revealed to Our servant on the day of the discrimination, the day the two armies met and God is powerful over everything.
8:42  When you were on the near side of the valley, and they were on the far side, and the camels were below you; and if you had made an appointment certainly you would have failed in the appointment. But that God might accomplish a matter which was to be done, that he who was to perish might perish with a clear proof; and that he who was to live might live with a clear proof; and indeed, God is hearing, knowing.
8:43  When God showed them to you in your dream as few, and if He had shown them to you as many, surely you would have been timid, and surely you would have quarrelled about the matter; but God saved; indeed, He knows what the breasts own.
8:44  And when He showed them to you, when you met, as few in your eyes; and He made you few in their eyes; that God might accomplish a matter that was to be done; and to God the matters return.
8:45  O those who believed! When you meet a troop, then be firm and remember God much; perhaps you may prosper.
8:46  And obey God and His messenger, and do not quarrel so be timid, and your wind goes; and be patient, indeed, God is with the patient.
8:47  And do not be like those who went forth from their homes with insolence, and to be seen of mankind, and they hinder from the way of God, and God encompasses what they do.
8:48  And when the devil beautified their works to them and said, 'No one of mankind to conquer you today, and indeed, I am a neighbour for you.' And when the two troops came in sight of each other, he turned back on his heels and said, 'Indeed, I am clear of you. Indeed, I see what you do not see. Indeed, I fear God, and God is severe in punishment.'
8:49  When the hypocrites and those in whose hearts was sickness said, 'Their religion has deceived these.' But whoever relies on God, then indeed, God is mighty, wise.
8:50  And if you could see when the angels take away the souls of those who disbelieved; they strike their faces and their backs, 'And taste the punishment of the burning!
8:51  That is for what your hands have sent forward and that God is no unjust one to His servants.'
8:52  Like the custom of Pharaoh's people and those who were before them. They disbelieved in the signs of God, and God seized them in their sins; indeed, God is strong, severe in punishment.
8:53  That is because God is not one who changes a favour which He has bestowed on people, until they change what is in themselves, and that God is hearing, knowing.
8:54  Like the custom of the people of Pharaoh and those who were before them. They said the signs of their Lord were lies, so We destroyed them in their sins, and We drowned Pharaoh's people; and all were wrongdoers.
8:55  Indeed, the worst of creatures in God's sight are those who disbelieve and they do not believe;
8:56  Those with whom you make a covenant, then they break their covenant everytime, and they do not fear.
8:57  If you definitely find them in the war, then make those who are behind them run by them, perhaps they may remember.
8:58  And if you fear from people treachery, then throw back to them equally; indeed, God does not love the treacherous.
8:59  And definitely do not think those who disbelieved will outstrip. Indeed, they will not escape.
8:60  Prepare for them whatever of strength and of companies of horses you can, to terrify therewith the enemy of God, and your enemy, and others besides them whom you do not know God knows them. And whatever thing you spend in God's way it will be repaid to you in full; and you shall not be wronged.
8:61  And if they incline to peace, then incline to it, and rely on God; indeed, He is the hearing, the knowing.
8:62  And if they desire to deceive you, then indeed, God is enough for you. He is the one who strengthened you with His help and with the believers;
8:63  And He united their hearts. If you had spent what is in the earth all together you could not have united their hearts, but God united them, indeed, He is mighty, wise.
8:64  O prophet! God is enough for you, and whoever follows you of the believers.
8:65  O prophet! Urge the believers to fight. If there are of you twenty patient, they shall conquer two hundred; and if there are of you a hundred they shall conquer a thousand of those who disbelieved, because they are people who do not understand.
8:66  Now God has lightened for you; and He knows that there is weakness in you: so if there are of you a patient hundred, they will conquer two hundred; and if there are of you a thousand, they will conquer two thousand, with the permission of God, and God is with the patient.
8:67  It is not for a prophet to have captives until he has slaughtered in the land. You desire to have the goods of the world, and God desires the hereafter; and God is mighty, wise.
8:68  If not for a book from God that had gone forth, surely there would have touched you, for what you took, a great punishment.
8:69  So eat of what spoils you have taken, lawful, good; and fear God, indeed, God is forgiving, compassionate.
8:70  O prophet! Say to whoever is in your hands of the captives, 'If God knows good in your hearts, He will give you better than what was taken from you, and He will forgive you; and God is forgiving, compassionate.'
8:71  And if they desire to betray you, so certainly they have betrayed God before. But He has given power over them; and God is knowing, wise.
8:72  Indeed, those who believed and emigrated and strove with their wealth and their souls in God's way, and those who gave refuge and helped, those, some of them are patrons of some. But those who believed, and have not emigrated, nothing of their patronage is for you, until they emigrate. But if they seek your help in the religion, then help is due from you, except against people between whom and you there is a covenant; and God sees what you do.
8:73  And those who disbelieved, some of them are patrons of some; if you do not do it there will be trial in the earth, and great corruption.
8:74  And those who believed and emigrated and strove in the way of God, and those who gave refuge and helped, those they are the believers in truth. For them is forgiveness and a generous provision.
8:75  And those who believed afterwards and emigrated and strove with you, then those are of you; and the possessors of blood relationships, some of them are more worthy of some in the Book of God. Indeed, God knows all things.
