47:1  Allâh has nullified all the good works of those who persistently refuse to yield to the Truth and bar the people from the way of Allâh.
47:2  Yet those who live by Faith, strive to do righteous acts and acknowledge what has been revealed to Muhammad- and it is the truth from their Lord - He will deliver them from all the consequences of their iniquitous deeds and improve their condition.
47:3  That is because those who persistently refuse to yield to the Truth follow falsehood, whereas those who adhere to Absolute Monotheism follow the Truth from their Lord. This is how Allâh presents to the people their parables.
47:4  Therefore, when you encounter (in battle) those who persistently refuse to yield to the Truth, smite the necks until when you have inflicted slaughter upon them, then tie fast their bonds, then set them free, either as a favor or by taking ransom, till the war lays down its loads. That (is the ordinance). If Allâh willed, He would certainly chastise them (without you). But (He ordered you to fight them) so that He may try some of you by means of others. Allâh will not let the deeds of those who are slain in the cause of Allâh be lost in vain.
47:5  He will lead them to a blissful life and improve their condition,
47:6  Admitting them into Al-Jannah, which He has made known to them.
47:7  O’ you who live by Faith, if you support (the cause of) Allâh, He will certainly support you and plant firmly your feet.
47:8  But those who persistently refuse to yield to the Truth are the ones who are doomed to perdition. He will make their deeds be lost in vain.
47:9  That is because they loathe what Allâh has sent down. So He has nullified their deeds.
47:10  Have they (the Pagan Arabs) not travelled through the land and seen the dreadful end of those who were before them? Allâh brought upon them utter destruction, and those who are Spiritually blind will also encounter similar things.
47:11  That is because Allâh is the guardian of those who adhere to absolute monotheism, and because those who persistently refuse to yield to the Truth have no guardian.
47:12  It is absolutely without a doubt that Allâh will admit those who live by Faith and do righteous acts (in this worldly life) into gardens underneath which rivers flow. Yet those who persistently refuse to yield to the Truth enjoy themselves and eat as cattle do. And the Fire will be their eternal abode .
47:13  We destroyed so many (ancient) towns and there was none to help them. They were more powerful than your town (Mecca) that has expelled you.
47:14  Is the one who relies on clear evidence from His Lord like the one whose evil deeds are made appealing to him, and who yields to his own whims?
47:15  The similitude of Al-Jannah which is promised to the Pious (whose faith is unfeigned): therein are rivers of pure water, rivers of milk whereof the taste does not change, rivers of wine delicious to the drinkers, and rivers of raw honey. And for them therein are different types of fruit and Mercy from their Lord. Are they then like the one who shall live in the Fire for ever, and is given scalding water to drink that tears his bowels apart?
47:16  Among them are some who seek to listen to you, then as soon as they leave, they ask those who have been given the spiritual gift of knowledge: "What was it that he said just now?". Such are those whom Allâh has set a seal upon their hearts and who yield to their own whims.
47:17  As for those who walk on the right path to Salvation, He increases them in their spiritual expansion and bestows on them their devoutness.
47:18  Are they waiting for the Hour to come on them all of a sudden? But some of its indications have already come. But how, when it has come upon them, can they take their advantage of it?
47:19  Now, therefore, know that there is no other god beside Allâh. And ask (Allâh) for the omnipotence of His Mercy to shield you from your iniquitous deeds, as well as to shield the Monotheistic Believers, men and women, from theirs. And Allâh has full knowledge of your movements (during the day) and your place of rest.
47:20  Those who adhere to absolute monotheism used to say: "Why has a Sūrat not been sent down? But when a decisive Sūrat is revealed, and fighting is mentioned in it, you see those whose hearts harbour doubts looking at you with the look of someone fainting at the point of death. Yet more fitting for them
47:21  Would be obedience and honourable words of kindness. Then when the issue (of fighting) is determined- if they were true to Allâh, it would be better for them.
47:22  If it should happen that you were not inclined to yield to the commands of Allâh, would you then also spread corruption in the land and sever the ties of kinship?
47:23  Those are the ones whom Allâh has cursed and so He has made them deaf and blinded their eyes.
47:24  What! Do they not then think about the Qur’ān carefully? or is that there are padlocks on their hearts?
47:25  Surely those who have abandoned their Faith in favour of spiritual darkness after the full knowledge of the truth has become manifest to them- it was the devil who tempted them and filled them with false hopes.
47:26  That is because they said to those who were averse to what Allâh has revealed of the Full Knowledge of the Truth: “We will yield to some matters of yours”. Allâh has full knowledge of their secrets.
47:27  Then how will it be for them when the Angels take them in death, smiting their faces and their backs?
47:28  That is because they yield to what provokes the wrath of Allâh and loathes His good pleasure. So He has nullified their deeds.
47:29  Or do those in whose hearts harbour doubts deem that Allâh will not divulge their aversions?
47:30  If We willed, We would show them to you. Then you would know them by their marks. Verily, you will know them by the tone of their voice. Allâh already knows perfectly well your deeds.
47:31  We will cause you to experience hardship so that We may identify those who strive hard among you and those who cling to patience, and may reveal your true character.
47:32  Verily, as for those who voluntarily and consciously refuse to Yield to the Truth, hinder (people) from the path of Allâh and oppose the Messenger after the full knowledge of the truth has become manifest to them, they cannot cause any harm to Allâh. He will actually make their deeds to be nullified.
47:33  O’ you who adhere to Faith, obey Allâh and obey the Messenger, and do not invalidate your deeds!
47:34  Verily, as for those who voluntarily and consciously refuse to Yield to the Truth, hinder (people) from the path of Allâh and die while they are living in spiritual darkness, Allâh will not let the omnipotence of His Mercy shield them from their iniquitous deeds.
47:35  Now, therefore, do not weaken and cry out for peace since you are the uppermost. Allâh is (always) with you. And he will never deprive you of your deeds.
47:36  Surely this worldly life is but recreation and amusement. But if you adhere to Faith and act piously, He will grant you your rewards. And he will not ask you to give away your entire wealth (for Zakāt).
47:37  If He were to ask you for it, and demand it persistently, you would covetously withhold, and He would divulge your aversions.
47:38  Lo! there you are, who are being called to to spend (your wealth) in the cause of Allâh, yet some of you are niggardly. And as for him who is niggardly is niggardly only against his own self. For Allâh is Self-Sufficient while you are the needy of Him. If you turn away, He will replace you with another people, and they will not be the likes of you.
