47:1
Those who disbelieve and hinder people from the Way of Allah, He will render their deeds vain.
47:2
But those who believe, do righteous deeds, and believe in what is sent down to Muhammad, for it is the truth from their Lord, He will remove their sins from them, and will make their condition good.
47:3
That is because those who disbelieve follow falsehood, while those who believe follow the truth from their Lord. Thus Allah does set forth their examples for mankind.
47:4
So, when you meet (fight with) those who disbelieve, strike at their necks till you have killed and wounded many of them, then bind a bond firmly (and take them as captives). After the war lays down its burden, then either show generosity (free them without ransom), or ransom (to benefit Islam). But if Allah had willed, He could certainly have won over them. But (He adapted this way) in order to test some of you with others. Those who are killed in the Way of Allah, He will never let their deeds be lost.
47:5
He will guide them and set their state right
47:6
and admit them to Paradise which He has made known to them.
47:7
O you who believe! If you help (the Cause of) Allah, He will help you, and make your foothold firm.
47:8
But those who disbelieve, there is destruction for them, and (Allah) will make their deeds vain.
47:9
That is because they hate that which Allah has sent down (this Qur’an), so He has made their deeds fruitless.
47:10
Have they not traveled through the earth and seen how was the end of those before them? Allah destroyed them completely and its likeness (similar fate waits) for the disbelievers.
47:11
That is because Allah is the Protector of those who believe and the disbelievers have no protector.
47:12
Certainly! Allah will admit those who believe and do righteous deeds, to gardens under which rivers flow (Paradise). While those who disbelieve, enjoy themselves (in worldly life) and eat as cattle eat, but the fire will be abode for them.
47:13
And many towns were stronger in strength than your town (Makkah) (O Muhammad), which has driven you out, We have destroyed them. There was none to help them.
47:14
Is the one who is on a clear proof from its Lord be compared to those for whom their evil deeds are beautified for them, while they follow their own lusts (evil desires)?
47:15
The description of Paradise which has been Promised for those who fear is that there are rivers of water not stagnant in it, rivers of milk whose taste never changes, rivers of wine delicious to those who drink, and rivers of clarified honey. In it, they will have every kind of fruit, and forgiveness from their Lord. (Are these) like those who shall reside forever in the fire and be given to drink boiling water so that it cuts up their intestines?
47:16
And among them there are some who listen to you (O Muhammad) till, when they go out from you, they say to those who have received knowledge: “What has he said just now?” Such are those Allah has sealed on their hearts and they follow their lusts (evil desires).
47:17
Those who accept guidance, He will increase their guidance and bestow on them their piety.
47:18
Are they waiting for the Hour (of judgment) so that it should come upon them suddenly? But indeed some of its signs have already come and when it will actually be on them, then how can they benefit by their reminder?
47:19
So know (O Muhammad) that there is no one worthy of worship but Allah, and ask forgiveness for your sins, and also for believing men and believing women. Allah knows your activities well and your resting place (homes).
47:20
Those who believe say: “Why is not a Surah (chapter of the Qur’an) sent down (to allow us to fight)? But when a decisive Surah is sent down and fighting (in Allah’s Cause) is mentioned in it, you will see those in whose hearts is a disease (of hypocrisy) looking at you with a look of one fainting to death. But it was better for them.
47:21
Obedience (to Allah) and good words (are better for them). When the matter (preparation for fight) is resolved, then if they had been true to Allah, it would have been better for them.
47:22
Would you might then, if you were given the authority, do mischief in the land, and sever your ties of kinship?
47:23
Such are they whom Allah has cursed so that He has made them deaf and blinded their sight.
47:24
Will they not then think deeply in the Qur’an? Or are there locks in their hearts?
47:25
Surely, those who turn on their backs after the guidance has become clear, Satan has beautified for them (false hopes), and (Allah) has prolonged them (their age).
47:26
This is because they said to those who hate what Allah has sent down: “We will obey you in some matter,” but Allah knows their secrets.
47:27
Then what will they do when the angels will take their souls at death, striking their faces and their backs?
47:28
That is because they followed what angered Allah and hated what pleased Him. So He made their deeds wasted.
47:29
Or do those in whose hearts is a disease (of hypocrisy) think that Allah will never bring to light their hidden ill-wills?
47:30
If We willed, We could have shown them to you and you would have known them by their marks. But surely, you will know them by the tone of their speech! Allah knows all your deeds.
47:31
And surely, We shall try you till We know those who strive hard (for Allah) and from you the patient ones, and We shall test your facts (whether lying or not).
47:32
Surely, those who disbelieve and hinder people from the Way of Allah, and oppose the Messenger after the guidance has been clearly shown to them, they will never hurt Allah in the least, but He will make their deeds fruitless.
47:33
O you who believe! Obey Allah, and obey the Messenger (Muhammad) and don’t render vain your deeds.
47:34
Surely, those who disbelieve, and hinder people from the Way of Allah, then die while they are disbelievers; Allah will never forgive them.
47:35
So don’t be weak and ask for peace while you have upper hand. Allah is with you, and will never decrease the reward of your good deeds.
47:36
The life of this world is but play and pastime. But if you believe and fear Allah, and avoid evil, He will grant you your wages, and will not ask you your wealth.
47:37
If He were to ask you of it, and press you, you would withhold with extreme desire, and He will bring out all your ill-wills.
47:38
Behold! You are those who are called to spend in the Cause of Allah. Yet among you are some who are stingy. Whoever is stingy, and then one is stingy only to one’s own self. But Allah is Rich, and you people are poor. If you turn away (from the obedience of Allah), He will exchange you by some other people besides you who will not be like you.
