14:1  Alif.Lam.Ra. A book which We have sent down to you, to bring mankind out from the darkness to the light by permission of their Lord, to the way of the Mighty, the Praiseworthy.
14:2  God is the one whose is what is in the heavens and what is in the earth. And woe to the disbelievers from the severe punishment.
14:3  Those who love the worldly life better than the hereafter, and hinder from the path of God, and seek to make it crooked; those are in far error.
14:4  And We have not sent any messenger except with the language of his people, so that he might explain to them. Then God leads whom He wills astray, and guides whom He wills; and He is the Mighty, the Wise.
14:5  And certainly, We sent Moses with Our signs, - 'Bring out your people from the darkness into the light, and remind them of the days of God!' Indeed, in that surely are signs for every patient, grateful one.
14:6  And when Moses said to his people, 'Remember the favour of God upon you, when He saved you from Pharaoh's people, they were afflicting you with evil torment and were slaughtering your sons and letting your women live.' And in that was a great trial for you from your Lord.
14:7  And when your Lord proclaimed, 'Surely if you give thanks I will surely give you increase; and if you disbelieve, indeed my punishment is surely severe.'
14:8  And Moses said, 'If you disbelieve, you and those who are on the earth altogether, then indeed, God is surely free of need, praiseworthy.'
14:9  Has not the news come to you of those who were before you, of the people of Noah, and 'Ad, and Thamud, and those who came after them? None knows them except God. Their messengers came to them with the clear proofs; but they thrust their hands into their mouths and they said, 'Indeed, we disbelieve in what you are sent with, and indeed, we are surely in hesitating doubt concerning that to which you call us.'
14:10  Their messengers said, 'Is there doubt about God, the originator of the heavens and the earth? He calls you to forgive you your sins, and respite you until a named term.' They said, 'You are not except a mortal like us; you wish to turn us from what our fathers used to serve. So bring us clear authority.'
14:11  Their messengers said to them, 'We are only mortals like you; but God is gracious unto whomsoever He will of His servants, and it is not for us to bring you an authority, except by His permission; and upon God then let the believers rely.
14:12  And what ails us that we rely not on God, and certainly He guided us in our ways? And surely we will definitely be patient on what hurt you cause us; and upon God then let those who rely rely.'
14:13  And those who disbelieved said to their messengers, 'Surely we will definitely drive you out of our land; or surely you will return to our religion!' So their Lord inspired them, 'Surely We will definitely destroy the wrongdoers;
14:14  And surely we will definitely make you dwell in the land after them. That is for whoever fears My station and fears My threat.'
14:15  And they sought victory; and disappointed was every stubborn tyrant.
14:16  Behind such a one is Hell, and he shall be given to drink of ichor water.
14:17  He shall try to swallow it, but cannot gulp it down; and death shall come upon him from every place, and he shall not die; and behind him shall be harsh punishment.
14:18  The likeness of those who disbelieve in their Lord, - their works are as ashes on which the wind blows fiercely on a day the wind blows violently. They have no power at all over that which they have earned. - That is the far error.
14:19  Do you not see that God created the heavens and the earth in truth? If He wills He can remove you and bring a new creation;
14:20  And that is not mighty on God.
14:21  And they come out before God all together; then the weak say to those who were big with pride, 'Indeed we were your followers, can you now avail us anything against God's punishment?' They say, 'If God had guided us surely we would have guided you. It is the same for us if we are impatient or if we are patient, we have no escape.'
14:22  And the devil says, when the matter has been decided, 'Indeed, God promised you a promise of truth; And I promised you, but I failed you; and I had no authority over you. I only called you, and you responded to me; so do not blame me, but blame yourselves; I cannot help you, nor can you help me. Indeed, I disbelieved in that which you before ascribed to me. Indeed, the wrongdoers, for them is painful punishment.'
14:23  And those who believed and did good works, they shall be admitted to gardens beneath which rivers flow, therein dwelling forever by permission of their Lord; their greeting therein is 'Peace.'
14:24  Do you not see how God strikes out a parable? A good word is like a good tree - its root firm, and its branches are in the sky;
14:25  Giving its fruit at every season by permission of its Lord. And God strikes out parables for mankind perhaps they may remember.
14:26  And the likeness of a bad word is as a bad tree felled from above the earth, having no stability.
14:27  God makes firm those who believed with the firm saying in the worldly life and in the hereafter. And God leads the wrongdoers astray. And God does what He wills.
14:28  Do you not see those who have changed God's favours for disbelief, and have made their people to alight at the abode of perdition? -
14:29  In Hell they shall broil, and an evil resting place.
14:30  And they set up peers to God, So that they mislead from His path. Say, 'Enjoy yourselves, but indeed, your destination is to the fire.'
14:31  Say to My servants who believe, that they be steadfast in prayer and expend of what We have bestowed upon them in secret and in public, before there comes the day when there shall be no bargaining and no friendship.
14:32  God is the one who created the heavens and the earth, and sent down from the sky water, then brought forth from it fruits as a provision for you; and subjected to you the ships, to float in the sea by His command, and subjected for you the rivers;
14:33  And He subjected for you the sun and the moon, both constant; and subjected for you the night and the day;
14:34  And brought you of everything you asked Him. And if you try to number God's favours, you cannot count them; indeed, man is surely unjust and ungrateful.
14:35  And when Abraham said, 'My Lord, make this land safe, and turn me and my sons away from serving idols.
14:36  My Lord, indeed, they have led astray many among mankind; so whoever follows me, then indeed, he is of me; and whoever rebels against me, then indeed You are forgiving, merciful.
14:37  'Our Lord! Indeed, I have made some of my offspring to dwell in a valley without cultivation, by Your Sacred House. 'Our Lord! That they may be steadfast in the prayer, so make hearts of men incline towards them, and provide them with fruits, perhaps they may give thanks.
14:38  'Our Lord! Indeed, You know what we hide and what we publish; And nothing is hidden from God in the earth or in the sky.
14:39  Praise be to God who has bestowed on me, notwithstanding my old age, Ishmael and Isaac. Indeed, my Lord surely hears prayer.
14:40  'My Lord! Make me steadfast in the prayer, and from my offspring. Our Lord! And accept my prayer.
14:41  Our Lord! Forgive me and my parents and the believers on the day the reckoning will stand.'
14:42  And do not think God is heedless of what the wrongdoers do; He only respites them until the day in which the eyes shall stare.
14:43  Hurrying on, raising up their heads, with their gaze not turning back to them, and their hearts empty;
14:44  And warn mankind of the day when the punishment shall come to them, then those who have done wrong shall say, 'Our Lord! Respite us for a short term, and we will respond to Your call, and follow the messengers!' - 'Did you not swear before for you there is no decline?'
14:45  And you dwelt in the dwellings of those who had wronged themselves; and it was made clear to you how We did with them; and We struck out parables for you.
14:46  And indeed they plotted their strategems, but with God is a strategem for them, although at their strategem the mountains should give way.
14:47  So do not indeed think that God fails in his promise to His messengers; indeed, God is mighty, owner of retribution.
14:48  On the day the earth shall be changed for another earth, and the heavens; and they shall go forth unto God, the One, the Subduer.
14:49  And you shall see the sinners on that day bound together in fetters;
14:50  With shirts of tar, and the fire covering their faces;
14:51  That God may reward each soul according to what it has earned; indeed, God is swift in the reckoning.
14:52  This is a communication to mankind that they may be warned by it, and know that only He is God, - one, - and that possessors of understanding may remember.
