| Arabic | | وَلَمَّا رَجَعَ مُوسَىٰ إِلَىٰ قَوْمِهِ غَضْبَانَ أَسِفًا قَالَ بِئْسَمَا خَلَفْتُمُونِي مِن بَعْدِي أَعَجِلْتُمْ أَمْرَ رَبِّكُمْ وَأَلْقَى الْأَلْوَاحَ وَأَخَذَ بِرَأْسِ أَخِيهِ يَجُرُّهُ إِلَيْهِ قَالَ ابْنَ أُمَّ إِنَّ الْقَوْمَ اسْتَضْعَفُونِي وَكَادُوا يَقْتُلُونَنِي فَلَا تُشْمِتْ بِيَ الْأَعْدَاءَ وَلَا تَجْعَلْنِي مَعَ الْقَوْمِ الظَّالِمِين |  |

| Were you impatient | aʿajil'tum | أَعَجِلْتُمْ | ع ج ل | |
| (over the) matter | amra | أَمْرَ | ا م ر | |
| (of) your Lord?" | rabbikum | رَبِّكُمْ | ر ب ب | |
| And he cast down | wa-alqā | وَأَلْقَى | ل ق ى | |
| the tablets | l-alwāḥa | الْأَلْوَاحَ | ل و ح | |
| and seized | wa-akhadha | وَأَخَذَ | ا خ ذ | |
| by head, | birasi | بِرَأْسِ | ر ا س | |
| his brother | akhīhi | أَخِيهِ | ا خ و | |
| dragging him | yajurruhu | يَجُرُّهُ | ج ر ر | |
| to himself. | ilayhi | إِلَيْهِ | ا ل ى | |
| (of) my mother! | umma | أُمَّ | ا م م | |
| the people | l-qawma | الْقَوْمَ | ق و م | |
| considered me weak | is'taḍʿafūnī | اسْتَضْعَفُونِي | ض ع ف | |
| and were about to | wakādū | وَكَادُوا | ك و د | |
| kill me. | yaqtulūnanī | يَقْتُلُونَنِي | ق ت ل | |
| rejoice | tush'mit | تُشْمِتْ | ش م ت | |
| the enemies, | l-aʿdāa | الْأَعْدَاءَ | ع د و | |
| place me | tajʿalnī | تَجْعَلْنِي | ج ع ل | |
| the people | l-qawmi | الْقَوْمِ | ق و م | |
| the wrongdoing." | l-ẓālimīna | الظَّالِمِينَ | ظ ل م | |
