| Arabic | | وَكَذَٰلِكَ مَا أَرْسَلْنَا مِن قَبْلِكَ فِي قَرْيَةٍ مِّن نَّذِيرٍ إِلَّا قَالَ مُتْرَفُوهَا إِنَّا وَجَدْنَا آبَاءَنَا عَلَىٰ أُمَّةٍ وَإِنَّا عَلَىٰ آثَارِهِم مُّقْتَدُون |  |

| And thus | wakadhālika | وَكَذَلِكَ | ذ ل ك | |
| We sent | arsalnā | أَرْسَلْنَا | ر س ل | |
| before you | qablika | قَبْلِكَ | ق ب ل | |
| a town | qaryatin | قَرْيَةٍ | ق ر ى | |
| warner | nadhīrin | نَذِيرٍ | ن ذ ر | |
| (the) wealthy ones of it, | mut'rafūhā | مُتْرَفُوهَا | ت ر ف | |
| "Indeed, we | innā | إِنَّا | ا ن ن | |
| [we] found | wajadnā | وَجَدْنَا | و ج د | |
| our forefathers | ābāanā | ءَابَاءَنَا | ا ب و | |
| a religion, | ummatin | أُمَّةٍ | ا م م | |
| and indeed, we | wa-innā | وَإِنَّا | ا ن ن | |
| their footsteps | āthārihim | ءَاثَارِهِمْ | ا ث ر | |
| (are) following." | muq'tadūna | مُقْتَدُونَ | ق د و | |
