side by side with God?” They will answer: “They have forsaken us - or, rather, what we were wont to invoke aforetime did not exist at all!” And they will be told:] “It is thus that God lets the deniers of the truth go astray
Beside Allah? They say: They have failed us; but we used not to pray to anything before. Thus doth Allah send astray the disbelievers (in His guidance)
"In derogation of Allah?" They will reply: "They have left us in the lurch: Nay, we invoked not, of old, anything (that had real existence)." Thus does Allah leave the Unbelievers to stray
They will say, They have been lost to us; nay, we did not invoke anything before [that had real existence]. Thus God leaves the deniers of the truth to stray
other than God? They would say: They went astray from us. Nay! We be not calling to anything before. Thus, God causes to go astray ones who are ungrateful.
instead of God [Alone]?" They will say: "They have left us in the lurch. In fact we did not appeal to anything previously." Thus God lets disbelievers go astray.
with Allah?” They will cry, “They have ˹all˺ failed us. In fact, we did not invoke anything ˹real˺ before.” This is how Allah leaves the disbelievers to stray.
other than God?" They will say, "They have departed from us; or, rather, those we used to call upon proved to be nothing. [They will be told,] "This is how God let those who deny the truth stray,
besides Allah?” They will say: “They have vanished from us. (Now we know that) we did not invoke (worship) anything before.” Thus Allah leads the disbelievers go astray.
besides God?’ They will say, ‘They have abandoned us: those we called upon before were really nothing at all.’ ‘This is how God lets disbelievers go astray
Apart from God?" They will answer: "They have left us in the lurch and fled. In fact it was nothing that we prayed to before." That is how God sends the unbelievers astray
"Apart from God? (Where are now those whose help you expected?)?" They will say: "They have failed us – or rather, we were not invoking before any (real) thing (which had part in Divinity or Lordship or absolute Sovereignty)." Thus does God lead astray the unbelievers (those who willfully disregard the truth and refuse to believe in it)
Apart from Allah?" They will say, "They have erred away from us; no indeed, we used not to invoke anything earlier." Thus Allah leads the disbelievers into error
- Besides Allah?" They will groan, "They have left us groping in the dark. Nay, rather, we were calling upon what existed not." This is how Allah lets go astray those who choose to live in darkness by denying the Truth and thus remaining ungrateful to Guidance. ('Kafirin' = Deniers of the Truth = Those who choose to remain in darkness = Those who are ungrateful for the Divine Guidance = Those who conceal the Truth)
"Besides (and in offense to) Allah?" They will reply: "They have vanished and left us; No, we did not call upon anything before, anything (that had real existence) from the old." Thus Allah leaves the unbelievers to stray
Other than Allah ?" They will say, "They have departed from us; rather, we did not used to invoke previously anything." Thus does Allah put astray the disbelievers
besides Allah?" They will answer: "They have forsaken us, now we have come to know that those to whom we used to invoke, were in fact nothing." Thus Allah confounds the disbelievers

"Instead of Allah?" They will reply, "They have all ceased to exist _ vanished! Actually, earlier, we never really prayed to anything at all." In this manner, Allah lets the unbelievers go astray

They shall say: "They have vanished away." And they add, " in effect it is quite evident that we conceived the absent to be present and we reverenced and entertained imagination." And thus does Allah neglect those infidels who deserve ill
