| Arabic | | وَإِذَا بُشِّرَ أَحَدُهُم بِمَا ضَرَبَ لِلرَّحْمَٰنِ مَثَلًا ظَلَّ وَجْهُهُ مُسْوَدًّا وَهُوَ كَظِيم | |

And when | wa-idhā | وَإِذَا | ا ذ ا | |
is given good news, | bushira | بُشِّرَ | ب ش ر | |
(to) one of them, | aḥaduhum | أَحَدُهُمْ | ا ح د | |
he sets up | ḍaraba | ضَرَبَ | ض ر ب | |
for the Most Gracious | lilrraḥmāni | لِلرَّحْمَنِ | ر ح م | |
(as) a likeness, | mathalan | مَثَلًا | م ث ل | |
his face | wajhuhu | وَجْهُهُ | و ج ه | |
dark | mus'waddan | مُسْوَدًّا | س و د | |
(is) filled with grief. | kaẓīmun | كَظِيمٌ | ك ظ م | |
