| Arabic | | ثُمَّ أَنزَلَ عَلَيْكُم مِّن بَعْدِ الْغَمِّ أَمَنَةً نُّعَاسًا يَغْشَىٰ طَائِفَةً مِّنكُمْ وَطَائِفَةٌ قَدْ أَهَمَّتْهُمْ أَنفُسُهُمْ يَظُنُّونَ بِاللَّهِ غَيْرَ الْحَقِّ ظَنَّ الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ يَقُولُونَ هَل لَّنَا مِنَ الْأَمْرِ مِن شَيْءٍ قُلْ إِنَّ الْأَمْرَ كُلَّهُ لِلَّهِ يُخْفُونَ فِي أَنفُسِهِم مَّا لَا يُبْدُونَ لَكَ يَقُولُونَ لَوْ كَانَ لَنَا مِنَ الْأَمْرِ شَيْءٌ مَّا قُتِلْنَا هَاهُنَا قُل لَّوْ كُنتُمْ فِي بُيُوتِكُمْ لَبَرَزَ الَّذِينَ كُتِبَ عَلَيْهِمُ الْقَتْلُ إِلَىٰ مَضَاجِعِهِمْ وَلِيَبْتَلِيَ اللَّهُ مَا فِي صُدُورِكُمْ وَلِيُمَحِّصَ مَا فِي قُلُوبِكُمْ وَاللَّهُ عَلِيمٌ بِذَاتِ الصُّدُور |  |

| while a group | waṭāifatun | وَطَائِفَةٌ | ط و ف | |
| worried [them] | ahammathum | أَهَمَّتْهُمْ | ه م م | |
| (about) themselves | anfusuhum | أَنْفُسُهُمْ | ن ف س | |
| thinking | yaẓunnūna | يَظُنُّونَ | ظ ن ن | |
| about Allah | bil-lahi | بِاللَّهِ | ا ل ه | |
| other than | ghayra | غَيْرَ | غ ى ر | |
| the truth - | l-ḥaqi | الْحَقِّ | ح ق ق | |
| (the) thought | ẓanna | ظَنَّ | ظ ن ن | |
| (of) [the] ignorance. | l-jāhiliyati | الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ | ج ه ل | |
| saying, | yaqūlūna | يَقُولُونَ | ق و ل | |
| the matter | l-amri | الْأَمْرِ | ا م ر | |
| the matter | l-amra | الْأَمْرَ | ا م ر | |
| all (of) it | kullahu | كُلَّهُ | ك ل ل | |
| (is) for Allah." | lillahi | لِلَّهِ | ا ل ه | |
| They hide | yukh'fūna | يُخْفُونَ | خ ف ى | |
| themselves | anfusihim | أَنْفُسِهِمْ | ن ف س | |
| they reveal | yub'dūna | يُبْدُونَ | ب د و | |
| They say, | yaqūlūna | يَقُولُونَ | ق و ل | |
| the matter | l-amri | الْأَمْرِ | ا م ر | |
| anything | shayon | شَيْءٌ | ش ى ء | |
| we would have been killed | qutil'nā | قُتِلْنَا | ق ت ل | |
| here." | hāhunā | هَاهُنَا | ه ا ه | |
| you were | kuntum | كُنْتُمْ | ك و ن | |
| your houses, | buyūtikum | بُيُوتِكُمْ | ب ى ت | |
| surely (would have) come out | labaraza | لَبَرَزَ | ب ر ز | |
| those who - | alladhīna | الَّذِينَ | ا ل ل ذ ى | |
| was decreed | kutiba | كُتِبَ | ك ت ب | |
| upon them | ʿalayhimu | عَلَيْهِمُ | ع ل ى | |
| [the] death | l-qatlu | الْقَتْلُ | ق ت ل | |
| their places of death. | maḍājiʿihim | مَضَاجِعِهِمْ | ض ج ع | |
| And that might test | waliyabtaliya | وَلِيَبْتَلِيَ | ب ل و | |
| your breasts | ṣudūrikum | صُدُورِكُمْ | ص د ر | |
| and that He may purge | waliyumaḥḥiṣa | وَلِيُمَحِّصَ | م ح ص | |
| your hearts. | qulūbikum | قُلُوبِكُمْ | ق ل ب | |
| And Allah | wal-lahu | وَاللَّهُ | ا ل ه | |
| (is) All-Aware | ʿalīmun | عَلِيمٌ | ع ل م | |
| (is in) the breasts. | l-ṣudūri | الصُّدُورِ | ص د ر | |
