| Arabic | | وَكَمْ أَهْلَكْنَا مِن قَرْيَةٍ بَطِرَتْ مَعِيشَتَهَا فَتِلْكَ مَسَاكِنُهُمْ لَمْ تُسْكَن مِّن بَعْدِهِمْ إِلَّا قَلِيلًا وَكُنَّا نَحْنُ الْوَارِثِين |  |

| We have destroyed | ahlaknā | أَهْلَكْنَا | ه ل ك | |
| a town | qaryatin | قَرْيَةٍ | ق ر ى | |
| which exulted, | baṭirat | بَطِرَتْ | ب ط ر | |
| (in) its means of livelihood. | maʿīshatahā | مَعِيشَتَهَا | ع ى ش | |
| And these | fatil'ka | فَتِلْكَ | ت ل ك | |
| (are) their dwellings | masākinuhum | مَسَاكِنُهُمْ | س ك ن | |
| have been inhabited | tus'kan | تُسْكَنْ | س ك ن | |
| after them | baʿdihim | بَعْدِهِمْ | ب ع د | |
| a little. | qalīlan | قَلِيلًا | ق ل ل | |
| And indeed, [We] | wakunnā | وَكُنَّا | ك و ن | |
| (are) the inheritors. | l-wārithīna | الْوَارِثِينَ | و ر ث | |
