58:1  Allah indeed heard the words of the woman who was arguing with you concerning her husband and she complained to Allah and Allah hears dialogue of the two of you. Truly Allah is All-hearing, All-seeing.

58:2  Those among you who abandon their wives by claiming them to be as forbidden to them as their mothers, they are not their mothers. Their mothers are only those who gave them birth and truly they are saying a most objectionable speech and a false witnessing. Truly Allah is surely Oft-pardoning, Oft-Forgiving.

58:3  And those who abandon their wives claiming that they are as forbidden to them as their mothers and thereafter want to go back on what they have said, they must free a bondsman before they touch one another. This you are exhorted to do and Allah is All-acquainted with all that you do.

58:4  And whosoever does not find the means [to free a bondsman] then he must fast two consecutive months before they touch one another and whosoever is not able [to fast two consecutive months] then he must feed sixty needy ones. That is so in order that you may affirm your belief in Allah and in His messenger and these are the boundaries set by Allah and as for those who disbelieve, for them is a painful punishment.

58:5  Truly those who defy Allah and His messenger, they will be overthrown as were overthrown those who were before them and We have indeed sent down clear signs and as for the disbelievers, for them is a debasing punishment.

58:6  The day Allah will raise them altogether and He will inform them about all that they had done. Allah has taken full record of it while they forgot it and Allah is All-witness over everything.

58:7  Have you not seen that Allah knows all that is in the heavens and all that is in the earth? There is no secret counsel among three except that He is their fourth nor among any five except that He is their sixth nor less than that nor more except that He is with them wherever they may be. Then He will inform them about all that they had done, on the day of resurrection. Truly Allah is All-knowing about everything.

58:8  Have you not seen those who were forbidden from secret counsels but then they went back to that from which they were forbidden and they counsel among themselves about sinfulness and transgression and disobedience to the messenger and when they come to you, they greet you by that which Allah has not greeted you with and they say within themselves, “Why does Allah not punish us for what We say?” Enough for them is hellfire to burn therein. What a woeful place of ending.

58:9  O you who believe! When you hold secret counsels among you, do not counsel one another unto sinfulness and transgression and disobedience of the messenger rather counsel one another unto piety and self-guard. And revere Allah unto whom you shall be gathered.

58:10  The secret counsel is only from Satan so that the believers may grieve but it is not going to harm them in the least except by the permission of Allah and in Allah let the believers put their trust.

58:11  O you who believe! When you are told to make room in the assemblies, do make room and Allah will make room for you and when you are told to rise up, do rise up and Allah will raise [in ranks] those who believe among you and as for those who are given the knowledge [even many more] ranks and Allah is All-acquainted with all that you do.

58:12  O you who believe! When you take counsel with the messenger, then do offer alms ahead of your counsel. That is better for you and purer. But if you do not find the means then truly Allah is Oft-Forgiving, All-merciful.

58:13  Are you concerned that you have to offer alms ahead of your counsel? So since you have not done and Allah has turned to you and accepted your repentance, therefore establish the prayer and pay the sanctifying dues and obey Allah and His messenger and Allah is All-acquainted with all that you do.

58:14  Have you not seen those who have taken as allies a people with whom Allah is wroth with? They are neither of you nor of them and they swear on the lie while they know.

58:15  Allah has made ready for them a formidable punishment. Truly how evil was that which they used to do.

58:16  They have taken their oaths as a shield so they hindered from the way of Allah and therefore for them there is a debasing punishment.

58:17  Their wealth and their children will never avail them from Allah in the least. These are people of the fire. They will abide therein forever.

58:18  The day Allah will raise them altogether and they will swear to Him as they swear to you and they think that they are on something. Lo! they indeed are the liars.

58:19  Satan has prevailed with them so he caused them to forget remembrance of Allah. Those are the party of Satan. Truly the party of Satan, they are the ones in loss.

58:20  Truly those who defy Allah and His messenger, those are among those brought lowest.

58:21  Allah has written, “I will most certainly triumph, I and My messengers,” Truly Allah is All-strong, All-mighty.

58:22  You will not find a people who believe in Allah and in the last day loving with fondness those who defy Allah and His messenger even though they may be their fathers or their children or their brethren or their clan. These are the ones He has written faith in their hearts and has strengthened them with a spirit from Him. And He will make them enter into gardens beneath which the rivers flow to abide therein forever. Allah is pleased with them and they are pleased with Him. These are the party of Allah. Truly the party of Allah, they are the prosperers.
