| Arabic | | وَاسْأَلْهُمْ عَنِ الْقَرْيَةِ الَّتِي كَانَتْ حَاضِرَةَ الْبَحْرِ إِذْ يَعْدُونَ فِي السَّبْتِ إِذْ تَأْتِيهِمْ حِيتَانُهُمْ يَوْمَ سَبْتِهِمْ شُرَّعًا وَيَوْمَ لَا يَسْبِتُونَ لَا تَأْتِيهِمْ كَذَٰلِكَ نَبْلُوهُم بِمَا كَانُوا يَفْسُقُون |  |

| (of) their Sabbath | sabtihim | سَبْتِهِمْ | س ب ت | |
| visibly | shurraʿan | شُرَّعًا | ش ر ع | |
| and (on the) day | wayawma | وَيَوْمَ | ى و م | |
| they had Sabbath | yasbitūna | يَسْبِتُونَ | س ب ت | |
| come to them. | tatīhim | تَأْتِيهِمْ | ا ت ى | |
| Thus | kadhālika | كَذَلِكَ | ذ ل ك | |
| We test them | nablūhum | نَبْلُوهُمْ | ب ل و | |
| they were | kānū | كَانُوا | ك و ن | |
| defiantly disobeying. | yafsuqūna | يَفْسُقُونَ | ف س ق | |
