| | A.L. Bilal Muhammad et al (2018) rendition of Surah She That Disputeth, The Pleading Woman, She Who Pleaded(al-Mujadilah) --- |
---|
58:1 | | God has indeed heard the statement of the woman who pleads with you concerning her husband, directing her complaint to God, and God hears the arguments between both sides among you, for God hears and sees all things |
58:2 | | Some men among you attempt to divorce their wives by Zihar, by prohibiting himself from relations with her as he would his mother, but they are not their mothers. None can be their mothers except those who gave birth to them, so in fact, they use words that are both hurtful and false, but truly God is the One who corrects and forgives you |
58:3 | | But those who divorce their wives by Zihar, then wish to go back on the words they spoke, should free a slave before they touch each other. This you are advised to perform, and God is well acquainted with all that you do |
58:4 | | And if any do not have the means, he should fast for two months consecutively, before they touch each other, but if any are unable to do so, he should feed sixty indigent ones, in order that you may show your belief in God and His messenger. Those are limits set by God, and for those who reject Him, there is a terrible penalty |
58:5 | | Those who resist God and His messenger will be humbled to dust, as were those before them, for We have already sent down clear signs, and the unbelievers will have a crushing penalty |
58:6 | | On the day that God will raise them all and show them the truth of their conduct. God has decreed its value though they may have forgotten it, for God is witness to all things |
58:7 | | Do you not see that God knows all that is in the heavens and on earth? There is not a secret meeting between three, that He does not make the fourth, nor between five that He does not make the sixth, nor between fewer nor more. He is in their presence wherever they are. In the end He will tell them the truth of their conduct, on the Day of Accountability, for God has full knowledge of all things |
58:8 | | Do you not turn your sight toward those who were forbidden secret meetings, but yet return to that which they were forbidden? And they hold secret counsels among themselves for immorality, hostility, and to ignore the messenger, and when they come to you, they greet you, but not as God greets you. And they say to themselves, “Why does God not punish us for our words?” Enough for them is hell. In it they will burn, and terrible is that destination |
58:9 | | O you who believe, when you hold secret meetings, do not do it for immorality, hostility, and to ignore the messenger, but do it for righteousness and self-restraint, and be conscious of God, to Whom you will be brought back |
58:10 | | Secret meetings are only inspired by Satan in order that he may cause grief to the believers, but he cannot harm them in the least, except as God permits, and on God let the believers put their trust |
58:11 | | O you who believe, when you are asked to make room in the assembly, make room. Ample room will God provide for you. And when you are asked to rise up, rise up. God will raise up in ranks those of you who believe, and who have been granted knowledge. And God is well acquainted with all you do |
58:12 | | O you who believe, when you consult the messenger in private, give something in charity before your private consultation. That will be best for you, and most conducive to refinement. But if you cannot, God is Forgiving, Redeeming |
58:13 | | Is it that you are afraid of giving in charity before your private consultation with him? If you do not do so, and God forgives you, then establish prayer, give zakat, and follow God and His messenger, and God is well acquainted with all that you do |
58:14 | | Do you not turn your attention to those who turn to them who have the punishment of God upon them? They are neither of you nor of them, and they swear on falsehood knowingly |
58:15 | | God has prepared for them a severe penalty. Harmful indeed are their deeds |
58:16 | | They have made their promises a screen. So they obstruct the people from the path of God. Therefore they will have a crushing penalty |
58:17 | | Of no profit to them against God will be their wealth or their sons. They will be companions of the fire, to dwell therein forever |
58:18 | | One day God will raise them all. Then they will promise to Him as they promise to you, and they think that they have something on which to stand. No, indeed they are only liars |
58:19 | | Satan has gotten the better of them. So he has made them lose the remembrance of God. They are of the association of Satan. Truly, it is the association of Satan that will perish |
58:20 | | Those who resist God and His messenger will be among those most humiliated |
58:21 | | God has decreed, “It is I and My messengers who will prevail,” for God is One, full of strength, able to enforce His will |
58:22 | | You will not find any of the people who believe in God and the Last Day, loving those who resist God and His messenger, even though they be their parents or their children, or their brothers, or other family members. For them He has written faith in their hearts, and strengthened them with a spirit from Himself, and He will admit them to gardens with rivers flowing through them, to dwell therein forever. God will be well pleased with them, and they with Him. They are of God. And truly it is the people of God who will achieve felicity |
