| Arabic | | وَكَتَبْنَا عَلَيْهِمْ فِيهَا أَنَّ النَّفْسَ بِالنَّفْسِ وَالْعَيْنَ بِالْعَيْنِ وَالْأَنفَ بِالْأَنفِ وَالْأُذُنَ بِالْأُذُنِ وَالسِّنَّ بِالسِّنِّ وَالْجُرُوحَ قِصَاصٌ فَمَن تَصَدَّقَ بِهِ فَهُوَ كَفَّارَةٌ لَّهُ وَمَن لَّمْ يَحْكُم بِمَا أَنزَلَ اللَّهُ فَأُولَٰئِكَ هُمُ الظَّالِمُون |  |

| for the life, | bil-nafsi | بِالنَّفْسِ | ن ف س | |
| and the eye | wal-ʿayna | وَالْعَيْنَ | ع ى ن | |
| for the eye, | bil-ʿayni | بِالْعَيْنِ | ع ى ن | |
| and the nose | wal-anfa | وَالْأَنْفَ | ا ن ف | |
| for the nose, | bil-anfi | بِالْأَنْفِ | ا ن ف | |
| and the ear | wal-udhuna | وَالْأُذُنَ | ا ذ ن | |
| for the ear, | bil-udhuni | بِالْأُذُنِ | ا ذ ن | |
| and the tooth | wal-sina | وَالسِّنَّ | س ن ن | |
| for the tooth, | bil-sini | بِالسِّنِّ | س ن ن | |
| and (for) wounds | wal-jurūḥa | وَالْجُرُوحَ | ج ر ح | |
| (is) retribution. | qiṣāṣun | قِصَاصٌ | ق ص ص | |
| But whoever | faman | فَمَنْ | م ن | |
| gives charity | taṣaddaqa | تَصَدَّقَ | ص د ق | |
| then it is | fahuwa | فَهُوَ | ه و | |
| an expiation | kaffāratun | كَفَّارَةٌ | ك ف ر | |
| And whoever | waman | وَمَنْ | م ن | |
| has revealed | anzala | أَنْزَلَ | ن ز ل | |
| then those | fa-ulāika | فَأُولَئِكَ | ا و ل ا ء | |
| (are) the wrongdoers. | l-ẓālimūna | الظَّالِمُونَ | ظ ل م | |
