| Arabic | | ثُمَّ اسْتَوَىٰ إِلَى السَّمَاءِ وَهِيَ دُخَانٌ فَقَالَ لَهَا وَلِلْأَرْضِ ائْتِيَا طَوْعًا أَوْ كَرْهًا قَالَتَا أَتَيْنَا طَائِعِين |  |

| and He said | faqāla | فَقَالَ | ق و ل | |
| and to the earth, | walil'arḍi | وَلِلْأَرْضِ | ا ر ض | |
| "Come both of you | i'tiyā | ائْتِيَا | ا ت ى | |
| willingly | ṭawʿan | طَوْعًا | ط و ع | |
| unwillingly." | karhan | كَرْهًا | ك ر ه | |
| They both said, | qālatā | قَالَتَا | ق و ل | |
| "We come | ataynā | أَتَيْنَا | ا ت ى | |
| willingly." | ṭāiʿīna | طَائِعِينَ | ط و ع | |
