To smoke, raise smoke or dust, become altered, be ill-natured, fumigate, grope clumsily, handle (a thing) clumsily, spoil, fail to handle properly.

ثُمَّ اسْتَوَى إِلَى السَّمَاءِ وَهِيَ دُخَان ٌ فَقَالَ لَهَا وَلِلأَرْضِ اِئْتِيَا طَوْعاً أَوْ كَرْها ً قَالَتَا أَتَيْنَا طَائِعِينَ
Thumma Astawá 'Ilá As-Samā'i Wa Hiya Dukhānun Faqāla Lahā Wa Lil'arĐi Ai'tiyā Ţaw`āan 'Aw Karhāan Qālatā 'Ataynā Ţā'i`īna
Then He settled to the heaven, while it was still smoke, and He said to it, and to the earth: Come willingly or unwillingly. They said: We come willingly.
44:10
فَارْتَقِبْ يَوْمَ تَأْتِي السَّمَاءُ بِدُخَان ٍ مُبِين ٍ
Fārtaqib Yawma Ta'tī As-Samā'u Bidukhānin Mubīnin
Therefore, watch for the day when the heaven will bring a visible smoke.
