| | Abdul Hye rendition of Surah Those Who Set The Ranks, Drawn up in Ranks, The Rangers(as-Saffat) --- |
---|
37:1 | | By those (angels) arranged in rows, |
37:2 | | by those (angels) who are strong in repelling (evil), |
37:3 | | by those (angels) who bring the book (the Qur’an), |
37:4 | | surely your one worthy of worship is indeed One (Allah), |
37:5 | | the Lord of the heavens and the earth, and all that lies between them, and Lord of every point of the sun’s risings. |
37:6 | | Surely! We have adorned the lower heaven with beautiful stars |
37:7 | | and has guarded against all rebellious devils. |
37:8 | | They cannot even listen to the higher group (angels) for they are pelted from every side, |
37:9 | | repulsed and they are under a constant punishment. |
37:10 | | Except such as snatch away something by stealing and they are pursued by a flaming fire of piercing brightness. |
37:11 | | Ask them (polytheists, O Muhammad): “Are they stronger as creation, or those whom We have created?” Surely, We created them of sticky clay. |
37:12 | | Nay, you (Muhammad) wonder while they mock (at you and the Qur’an). |
37:13 | | When they are reminded, they don’t pay attention, |
37:14 | | and when they see a Verse (from Allah), they mock at it |
37:15 | | and say: “This is nothing but clear magic! |
37:16 | | When we are dead and have become dust and bones, shall we then surely be resurrected? |
37:17 | | Also our forefathers of old times?” |
37:18 | | Say (O Muhammad): “Yes and you shall then be humiliated.” |
37:19 | | It will be only a single shout and they will be staring! |
37:20 | | They will say: “Woe to us! This is the Day of recompense!” |
37:21 | | (It will be said): “This is the Day of judgment which you used to deny.” |
37:22 | | (It will be said to the angels): “Assemble those who did wrong, together with their companions whom they used to worship |
37:23 | | besides Allah, and lead them to the way of flaming fire (hell).” |
37:24 | | (When they will be gathered, Allah will say): “Stop them, surely they are to be questioned: |
37:25 | | What is the matter with you? Why don’t you help one another (as you used to do in the world)?” |
37:26 | | Nay, but that Day they shall surrender. |
37:27 | | Some of them will face others to question one another. |
37:28 | | They will say (to their leaders): “Surely, you used to come to us from the right (with authority to beautify every evil, enjoin polytheism, and stop us from the truth).” |
37:29 | | They will reply: “Nay, you were not believers. |
37:30 | | We had no authority over you. Nay! You were transgressing people, |
37:31 | | now the Word of our Lord has become justified against us, and indeed we shall taste (the punishment). |
37:32 | | So we led you astray because we were ourselves astray.” |
37:33 | | Then surely on that Day, they will share in the punishment. |
37:34 | | Certainly, that is how We shall deal with sinners |
37:35 | | surely, when it was said to them: “There is no one worthy of worship but Allah,” they used to puff themselves up with pride |
37:36 | | and say: “Are we going to abandon our one worthy of worship for the sake of a mad poet?” |
37:37 | | Nay! He (Muhammad) has come with the truth and he has confirmed the (previous) Messengers. |
37:38 | | (It will be said): “Surely, you (polytheists) are going to taste the painful punishment; |
37:39 | | and you will be requited nothing except for what you had done (evil deeds).” |
37:40 | | Except the chosen (faithful) devotees of Allah, |
37:41 | | those for them will have known provision: |
37:42 | | fruits, and they shall be honored |
37:43 | | in the gardens of delight (Paradise), |
37:44 | | on the thrones facing one another, |
37:45 | | served around (them) with a cup of pure wine, |
37:46 | | crystal-white, delicious to the drinkers. |
37:47 | | Neither they will have any kind of hurt, headache or sin in that, nor will they suffer intoxication from that. |
37:48 | | With them will be chaste females restraining their glances (for husbands only) with wide and beautiful eyes |
37:49 | | as if they were preserved eggs. |
37:50 | | Some of them will turn to others, questioning each others. |
37:51 | | One of them will say: “Surely, I had a companion for me (in the world), |
37:52 | | who used to say: ‘Are you among those who believe (in Resurrection after death)? |
37:53 | | When we die and become dust and bones, shall we indeed (be raised up) to receive reward or punishment (according to deeds)?”’ |
37:54 | | It will be said (to him): “Will you look down (to see the friend)?” |
37:55 | | So the person looked down and saw friend in the midst of the fire. |
37:56 | | The person said: “By Allah! You have nearly ruined me. |
37:57 | | Had it not been for the Grace of my Lord, I would certainly have been among those brought forth (to hell). |
37:58 | | (The believer in the heaven will say): “Are we then not to die (any more) |
37:59 | | after our first death and we shall not be punished?” |
37:60 | | Truly, this is the supreme success! |
37:61 | | For such an end, let everyone strive who wishes to strive. |
37:62 | | Is this (Paradise) a better entertainment or the tree of the Zaqqum (a horrible tree in hell)? |
37:63 | | Truly, We have made it a trail for the wrongdoers. |
37:64 | | Surely, it is a tree that grows in the bottom of hellfire, |
37:65 | | the shoots of its fruit-stalks are like the heads of devils, |
37:66 | | so truly, they will eat from it and fill their bellies from it. |
37:67 | | Then surely, on top of that, they will be given a mixture of boiling water (to drink). |
37:68 | | Then surely, their return is to the flaming fire of hell. |
37:69 | | In fact, they found their fathers on the wrong way, |
37:70 | | so they are too haste to follow their footsteps! |
37:71 | | and indeed most of the ancient people went astray before them |
37:72 | | and indeed We had sent warners (Messengers) among them. |
37:73 | | Then see how was the end of those who were warned (all perished), |
37:74 | | except the chosen (faithful) devotees of Allah. |
37:75 | | And indeed Noah prayed to Us, and indeed We are the Best to answer (the prayer). |
37:76 | | And We rescued him and his family from the great distress (drowning), |
37:77 | | and made his progeny to be the only survivors, |
37:78 | | and left for him (a good name) among generations to come in later times. |
37:79 | | Peace be upon Noah (from Us) among the (people of) worlds! |
37:80 | | Surely, thus We reward the righteous people. |
37:81 | | Surely, he (Noah) was one of Our believing devotees. |
37:82 | | Then We drowned the others (disbelievers). |
37:83 | | Surely, among those who followed his (Noah’s) way was Abraham, |
37:84 | | when he came to his Lord with a pure heart. |
37:85 | | When he said to his father and to his people: “What is it you worship? |
37:86 | | Is it a falsehood worthy of worship other than Allah that you seek? |
37:87 | | Then what do you think about the Lord of the worlds? |
37:88 | | Then he looked a glance at the stars, |
37:89 | | and said: “Surely, I am sick (he did this trick to stay in their temple of idols to destroy them and not to accompany them to the pagan’s feast).” |
37:90 | | So they turned away from him, and departed. |
37:91 | | Then he turned to their idols and said: “Why don’t you eat (from food offered)? |
37:92 | | What is the matter with you that you don’t speak?” |
37:93 | | Then he turned upon them, striking with his right hand. |
37:94 | | They (idol worshippers) came running towards him. |
37:95 | | He said: ”Do you worship what you carve, |
37:96 | | while Allah has created you and what you have make?” |
37:97 | | They said: “Build for him a building (like a furnace) and throw him into the blazing fire!” |
37:98 | | So they plotted against him, but We made them the lowest (humiliated). |
37:99 | | He said (after his rescue from fire): “Surely, I am going to my Lord. He will guide me |
37:100 | | My Lord! Grant me (offspring) from the righteous.” |
37:101 | | So We gave him the glad tidings of a gentle boy. |
37:102 | | When he (son) was old enough to walk with him, he said: “O my son! Surely, I have seen in the sleep (dream) that I am slaughtering you (sacrifice to Allah), so what do you think!” He said: “O my father! Do what you are commanded (by Allah), you shall find me of the patient. |
37:103 | | Then, when they had both submitted themselves (to Allah), and he laid his son prostrate on his forehead (for sacrifice); |
37:104 | | and Allah called out to him: “O Abraham! |
37:105 | | Surely, you have fulfilled the dream!” Surely! Thus We reward the righteous people. |
37:106 | | Surely, that was indeed a clear trial. |
37:107 | | We ransomed his son for a great sacrifice |
37:108 | | and We left for him (good name) among the later generations (to come). |
37:109 | | Peace be upon Abraham! |
37:110 | | Thus indeed We reward the righteous people. |
37:111 | | Surely, he was one of Our believing devotees. |
37:112 | | And We gave him the glad tidings of (his son) Isaac, a prophet from the righteous. |
37:113 | | We blessed him and Isaac. Of their progeny, there are some who do right, and some plainly wrong themselves. |
37:114 | | Indeed We gave Our Grace to Moses and Aaron. |
37:115 | | We saved them and their people from the great distress; |
37:116 | | and helped them, so they became victorious |
37:117 | | We gave them the clear Scripture (Torah), |
37:118 | | and guided them to the Right Way. |
37:119 | | We left for them (a good name) among later generations (to come). |
37:120 | | Peace be upon Moses and Aaron! |
37:121 | | Surely, thus We do reward the righteous people. |
37:122 | | Surely! They were of Our believing devotees. |
37:123 | | Surely, Elias was one of the Messengers. |
37:124 | | When he said to his people: “Will you not fear (Allah)? |
37:125 | | Will you call upon Bal (idol) and forsake the best of creators, |
37:126 | | Allah, your Lord and the Lord of your forefathers?” |
37:127 | | But they denied him (Elias), so they will certainly be brought forth (to the punishment) |
37:128 | | except the chosen (faithful) devotees of Allah. |
37:129 | | We left for him (a good name) among later generations (to come). |
37:130 | | Peace be upon Elias! |
37:131 | | Surely, thus We reward the righteous people. |
37:132 | | Surely, he was one of Our believing devotees. |
37:133 | | Surely, Lot was one of the Messengers. |
37:134 | | When We saved him and all his family, |
37:135 | | except an old woman (who was) among those who remained behind |
37:136 | | then We destroyed the rest (the towns of Sodom at the Dead Sea in Jordan). |
37:137 | | Surely, you pass by them in the morning, |
37:138 | | and at night; will you not then reflect (think)? |
37:139 | | Surely, Jonah was one of the Messengers. |
37:140 | | When he ran to the laden ship, |
37:141 | | he (agreed to) cast lots, and he was among the losers. |
37:142 | | Then a (big) fish swallowed him while he had done an act worthy of blame. |
37:143 | | Had it not been that he was of those who glorify (Allah), |
37:144 | | he would have indeed remained in its belly (the fish) till the Day of Resurrection. |
37:145 | | Then We cast him out on the naked shore while he was sick |
37:146 | | and We caused a plant of gourd (squash) to grow over him. |
37:147 | | Then We had sent him to a nation of 100,000 people or even more. |
37:148 | | They believed; so We gave them enjoyment for a while. |
37:149 | | Now ask them (disbelievers, O Muhammad): (Does it make sense that) your Lord should have only daughters while they choose to have sons |
37:150 | | Or did We create the angels as females while they were witnesses |
37:151 | | Surely, they invent a lie when they say: |
37:152 | | “Allah has begotten (children). Surely, they are liars!” |
37:153 | | Has He chosen daughters (rather than) sons? |
37:154 | | What is the matter with you? How do you decide? |
37:155 | | Will you not then remember? |
37:156 | | Or is there any plain authority for you? |
37:157 | | Then bring your book if you are truthful! |
37:158 | | They have invented a kinship between Him and the jinns, but indeed the jinns know quite well that they will be brought for account (before Allah) |
37:159 | | Glory be to Allah! (He is free) from what they attribute to Him |
37:160 | | except the chosen (faithful) devotees of Allah. |
37:161 | | So, neither you nor those whom you worship (idols) |
37:162 | | can lead (anyone) astray |
37:163 | | except those who are destined to burn in hell! |
37:164 | | (The angels say): “There is one known place for us. |
37:165 | | Surely, we stand in rows (for prayers); |
37:166 | | surely, we are those who glorify (Allah).” |
37:167 | | Indeed they (disbelievers) used to say: |
37:168 | | “If we had a reminder like the people of old received (before the coming of Muhammad) |
37:169 | | we would have indeed been the chosen devotees of Allah!” |
37:170 | | But (since the Qur’an has come) they disbelieve in it (the Qur’an), and they will come to know (the consequence soon)! |
37:171 | | Surely, Our Word has gone forth for Our devotees, the Messengers, |
37:172 | | that surely they would be victorious |
37:173 | | and verily, Our hosts (soldiers) will be victorious. |
37:174 | | So turn away (O Muhammad) from them for a while, |
37:175 | | and watch them, and they shall see (your victory)! |
37:176 | | Do they seek to hasten on Our Punishment? |
37:177 | | Then, when it descends into their court-yard (near them), then evil will be the morning for those who had been warned! |
37:178 | | So turn (O Muhammad) away from them for a while, |
37:179 | | and watch (their downfall) and they shall see (your victory)! |
37:180 | | Glory be to your Lord, the Lord of honor and power, (He is free) from what they attribute to Him! |
37:181 | | Peace be upon the Messengers |
37:182 | | and all the praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds. |
