[To both kinds of your enemies, O believers, is bound to happen] the like of [what happened to] those who, a short while before them, had to taste the evil that came from their own doings, with [yet more] grievous suffering awaiting them [in the life to come]
They are ˹both just˺ like those who recently went down before them: they tasted the evil consequences of their doings. And they will suffer a painful punishment.
Just like those (the Jews of the Banu Qaynuqa‘) who, a short time before them (the Jews of the Banu Nadir), tasted the evil result of their own doings – and (in the Hereafter) for them there is (also) a painful punishment
(They are) as the likeness of (the ones) who were before them, they tasted the pernicious result of (disobeying the) Command (of Allah to them); and they will have a painful torment
The example (of Banu NaDir) is like those who were before them in near past, who tasted the evil consequence of their conduct, and for them (in the Hereafter) there is a painful punishment
They are like those who recently came before them, they have tasted the evil result of what they did; And (in the Hereafter there is) a painful penalty for them
Their example is like the people who were recently punished; they tasted the consequences of their bad behaviour, and for them is a painful punishment in the Hereafter.
Like those before them shortly: they tasted the evil consequences of their conduct, and for them is a painful chastisement
Muhammad Ahmed - Samira
As/like (the) example/proverb, (of) those from before them near/close (shortly), they tasted/experienced their matters'/affair's severity/bad consequences , and for them (is) a painful torture
Their case is like the case of those people who passed away only a short time before them. They tasted the evil consequences of their evil conduct. And for them is a painful punishment
Their fate is the same as their counterparts who preceded them. They suffered the consequences of their decisions. They have incurred a painful retribution.
Ahmed Raza Khan (Barelvi)
They are like those who were just a short time before them. They tasted the evil consequences of their doings, and for them is the painful torment.
(Their case is) like the case of (Banu Qainuqa`, a Jew tribe at Madinah) their immediate predecessors (who were defeated). They suffered the evil consequences of their (evil) doings, and they received a woeful punishment
(Their plight) resembles those who have tasted the evil consequences of their works shortly before them (i.e., the idolaters of Mecca in Badr and Banu Nadir, Banu Qaynuqa‘ and Banu Qurayza of the Jews, etc.). And there is for them a grievous punishment (in the Hereafter as well)
They are like their immediate predecessors (the Jews of Banee Qainooqa, who suffered), they tasted the evil result of their conduct, and (in the Hereafter, there is) for them a painful torment;
The example of them (these Jews) is like those who recently tasted the consequences of their deeds (at the Battle of Badr) and for whom there is a severe suffering (in the eternal life to come).
Al-muntakhab fi tafsir al-Qur'an al-Karim
They are like those Pagans of Quraish, who tasted the fatal consequences of the evil way they conducted themselves in life not long ago at the battle of Badr, and there is yet an unsparing penalty and condign punishment
(They are) similar in likeness to those who were just before them (and) who tasted the evil result of their affair, and for them there is a painful punishment.
