They were just trying to intimidate us, imagining that they could discourage us and stop the work. So I continued the work with even greater determination.

We knew our enemies’ intent was to intimidate us into stopping our work. They reasoned, “These Jews will stop rebuilding out of fear and discouragement. Progress will grind to a halt.” Instead I renewed my dedication, strengthened my hands.
You’re just trying to scare us into stopping our work.” (O Lord God, please strengthen me!)
They all were trying to frighten us, hoping that we would become lax in our work and the job would not be completed. But instead I became more determined than ever.

They were trying to frighten us into stopping work. I prayed, “But now, God, make me strong!”
All these men made us afeared, and thought that our hands should cease from our works, and that we should rest from building; for which cause I strengthened more mine hand thereto (and for this reason I applied myself even more strongly to the task at hand).
