Elihu lit into Job again: “Does this kind of thing make any sense? First you say, ‘I’m perfectly innocent before God.’ And then you say, ‘It doesn’t make a bit of difference whether I’ve sinned or not.’
Do you really think it is right when you say, “My righteousness is greater than God’s”?
“Do you think this to be just? You say, ‘I am in the right before God.’
It is not right, Job, for you to say that you are innocent in God's sight,
Whether thy thought seemeth even, either rightful, to thee, that thou shouldest say, I am right-fuller than God? [I am more rightwise than God?]
Job, are you really innocent in the sight of God?
