And Pharaoh shall say on the sons of Israel, They be made strait in the land, the desert hath closed them together. (And Pharaoh shall say of the Israelites, The land is too narrow there for all of them, yea, the wilderness hath enclosed them.)
The king will think you were afraid to cross the desert and that you are wandering around, trying to find another way to leave the country.

For Pharaoh will think of the Bnei Yisroel, They are entangled in the land [wandering in confusion], the midbar hath shut them in [from making their exodus].
Pharaoh will think, ‘The Israelites are just wandering around. The desert is blocking their escape.’
For Pharaoh will say of the children of Israel, “They are confused in the land. The wilderness has shut them in.”
Pharaoh will think that the Israelites are lost in the desert and that the people will have no place to go.
The king will think, ‘The Israelites are lost, trapped by the desert.’
And Pharaoh will say of the Israelites, ‘They are wandering around in the land. The desert has closed in on them.’
Pharaoh will think, “The Israelites are wandering around the land in confusion, hemmed in by the desert.”
