39:1  I have said that I would keep my way and that I would not sin with my tongue. I shall keep my mouth from evil because of the wicked who are before me.
39:2  I was dumb, I was sorrowful and grieved for what is good and my sorrow was agitated.
39:3  My heart is hot within me and fire is renewed in my body; I meditated with my tongue.
39:4  Show me, Lord Jehovah, my end, and the measure of my days, what it is, that I may know why I remain.
39:5  Behold, you have given me my days by a measure, and my delay is as nothing before you, because all the children of men abide as a vapor.
39:6  Because a man walks in an image and he fades away like a vapor; he lays down treasures and does not know for whom he gathered them.
39:7  Therefore, what is my hope, if not you alone, Lord Jehovah?
39:8  And save me from all my crimes and do not make me a reproach to the evil.
39:9  I am dumb, and I did not open my mouth, because you have done it.
39:10  Remove your scourges from me and the blows of your hands.
39:11  I am wasted by rebuke for the sake of my sins. You have chastened man, and you have put away his desires like stubble and all the children of men are like a vapor.
39:12  Hear my prayer and my request, Lord Jehovah, and give heed to my tears and do not be silent, because I am an inhabitant with you and a Pilgrim, like all my fathers.
39:13  Save me, and I shall rest, lest I depart and I shall be no more.
