3:1  What advantage then · has the Jew? Or what is the value of circumcision?
3:2  Much in every way. For first of all, they were entrusted with the oracles of God.
3:3  But what if some were unfaithful, will · their lack of faith nullify the faithfulness of God?
3:4  By no means! Let God be · · true and every man a liar. As it is written, “so that you may be justified in · your words and prevail when · you are judged.”
3:5  But if · our unrighteousness demonstrates the righteousness of God, what shall we say? That God is unjust · · to inflict · wrath on us? (I use a human argument!)
3:6  By no means! For otherwise how could God judge · the world?
3:7  But if by my lie · God’s truthfulness · · abounds to · his glory, why am I still being condemned as a sinner?
3:8  And why not say (as some slanderously · claim that we are saying), “Let us do · evil so that good may come · of it”? Their · condemnation is well deserved!
3:9  What then? Are we better off? Not at all, for we have already charged that both Jews and Greeks are all under the power of sin,
3:10  as it is written, “No one is righteous, not even one;
3:11  no one is · understanding; no one is · seeking for · God.
3:12  They have all turned away; together they have become worthless. No one is · doing good, there is not even one.
3:13  Their throat is an open grave; · with their tongues they deceive; the poison of asps is under · their lips;
3:14  their · mouth is full of cursing and bitterness;
3:15  · their feet are swift to shed blood;
3:16  destruction and misery are in · their paths;
3:17  and the way of peace they have not known.
3:18  There is no fear of God before · their eyes.”
3:19  Now we know that whatever the law says, it speaks to those who are under the law, so that every mouth may be silenced and the whole world may be held accountable to God.
3:20  So by the works of the law no flesh at all will be justified before him, because through the law comes the knowledge of sin.
3:21  But now, apart from the law (although attested by the law and the prophets) the righteousness of God has been disclosed.
3:22  It is the righteousness · of God available through faith in Jesus Christ for all who believe. (For there is no distinction,
3:23  since all have sinned and continue to fall short of the glory of God.)
3:24  They are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus,
3:25  whom God set forth · as an atoning sacrifice by his blood, obtainable through · faith. · This was to demonstrate · his righteousness, because God in his forbearance · had passed over · previous sins.
3:26  · · It was also to · demonstrate · his righteousness at the present time, that · he might be just and the justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus.
3:27  Where then is · boasting? It has been excluded. By what kind of law? By a law of works? No, but by the law of faith.
3:28  For we hold that a person is justified by faith apart from the works of the law.
3:29  Or is God the God of Jews only? Is he not the God of Gentiles as well? Yes, of Gentiles as well.
3:30  Since God is one, · he will justify the circumcised on the basis of their faith and the uncircumcised by the same faith.
3:31  Do we therefore nullify the law through · faith? By no means! On the contrary, we uphold the law.
