21:1  Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and the sea was no more.
21:2  And I saw the holy city, · the new Jerusalem, coming down out of · heaven from · God, made ready like a bride adorned for her husband.
21:3  And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Behold, the dwelling place of God is with · man, and he will dwell with them. · They will be his people, and God himself · will be with them as their God.
21:4  · He will wipe away every tear from · their eyes. · · Death will be no more, mourning and crying and pain will be no more, for the former things have passed away.”
21:5  And the one seated on the throne said, “Behold, I am making all things new.” And he said, “Write it down, for these · words are trustworthy and true.”
21:6  And he said to me, “It is done! I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. To the one who thirsts I will give permission to drink free of charge from the spring of the water of life.
21:7  The one who conquers will inherit these blessings, and I will be his God and he will be my son.
21:8  But as for the cowardly, · the faithless, · the detestable, · those who commit murder, · the sexually immoral, · those who practice the occult, · idolaters, and all · liars—· their place will be in the lake that burns with fire and sulfur. That is the second death.” ·
21:9  Then came one of the seven angels who had the seven bowls · full of the seven final plagues, · and he spoke with me, saying, “Come, I will show you the Bride, the wife of the Lamb.”
21:10  And he carried me away in the spirit up onto a great, lofty mountain, · and showed me the holy city · Jerusalem coming down out of · heaven from · God.
21:11  It had the glory of God; · its radiance was like that of a very precious jewel, like a jasper stone, clear as crystal.
21:12  It had a great, high wall · with twelve gates, · with twelve angels at the gates, and the names · of the twelve tribes of the nation of Israel were inscribed on the gates.
21:13  There were three gates on the east, · three gates on the north, · three gates on the south, and three gates on the west.
21:14  · The wall of the city had twelve foundations, and on them were the twelve names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb.
21:15  · The one who spoke with me had a golden measuring rod with which to measure the city, · · its gates and · its wall.
21:16  · The city was laid out as a square, · · its length the same as its width. · He measured the city with the measuring rod at twelve thousand stadia, · its length, · · width, and · height being equal.
21:17  He also measured · its wall, one hundred and forty-four cubits by human measurement, which is also an angel’s measurement.
21:18  · The · city’s wall was made of jasper and the city was pure gold, as pure as glass.
21:19  The foundations of the wall of the city were adorned with every kind of precious stone: · the first was jasper, the second sapphire, the third agate, the fourth emerald,
21:20  the fifth onyx, the sixth carnelian, the seventh chrysolite, the eighth beryl, the ninth topaz, the tenth chrysoprase, the eleventh jacinth, the twelfth amethyst.
21:21  · The twelve gates were twelve pearls, each of the gates was made of a single pearl. And the main street of the city was pure gold, like transparent glass.
21:22  · I saw no temple in the city, for the Lord · God · Almighty is its temple, and the Lamb.
21:23  And the city has no need of sun or · moon to shine on it, for the glory of God floods it with light, and · its lamp is the Lamb.
21:24  · The nations will walk by · its light and the kings of the earth will bring · their splendor into it.
21:25  · On no day will · its gates ever be closed, since there will be no night there.
21:26  And they will bring the splendor and · wealth of the nations into it.
21:27  But nothing that is unclean—· no one who practices idolatry or falsehood—will ever enter it, but only those whose names are written in the Lamb’s Book of Life. ·
