18:1  After this I saw another angel coming down from · heaven, having great authority, and the earth was made bright with · his glory.
18:2  And he called out with a powerful voice, saying, “Fallen, fallen is Babylon the great! · She has become a dwelling place for demons and a haunt for every unclean spirit, · a haunt for every unclean bird, · a haunt for every unclean and detestable beast.
18:3  For all the nations have drunk the wine of her passionate · immorality, and the kings of the earth have committed acts of immorality with her, and the merchants of the earth have grown rich from the power of her excessive luxury.”
18:4  Then I heard another voice from · heaven saying, “Come out of her, · my people, lest you share in her sins, and lest you receive · her plagues;
18:5  for her sins are heaped up · as high as · heaven, and God has remembered · · her crimes.
18:6  Pay her back as · she herself has paid back others, and repay her · double according to · her works; in the cup that she mixed, mix a double draught for her.
18:7  As she exalted herself and lived in luxury, give her an equal measure of torment and mourning; because in · her heart she said, ‘I sit as a queen, · I am no widow, and mourning I will never see.’
18:8  Therefore her plagues will come in a single day ·—death and mourning and famine. And she will be consumed with fire, for mighty is the Lord · God who has judged her.”
18:9  Then the kings of the earth, those who committed acts of immorality with her and shared her luxury, will weep and wail over her when they see the smoke of her burning.
18:10  They will stand at a distance in · fear of her torment, and say, “Alas! Alas! O great city, · Babylon the mighty city! · For in a single hour your judgment has come.” ·
18:11  And the merchants of the earth will weep and mourn over her since no one buys · their cargo anymore,
18:12  cargo such as gold, · silver, · precious stones, and pearls; · fine linen, · purple, · silk, and scarlet cloth; · all kinds of things made of citron wood, · all kinds of articles made of ivory, and all kinds of articles made of costly wood, · bronze, · iron, and marble;
18:13  · cinnamon, · spice, · incense, · myrrh, and frankincense; · wine, · olive oil, · fine flour, and wheat; · cattle, · sheep, · horses, and chariots; and slaves, that is, human livestock.
18:14  · “The fruit that your soul · longed for · has gone from you, and all your delicacies and · splendid things are lost to you, · never to be found again!”
18:15  The merchants who became rich by selling her these things will stand at a distance weeping and mourning because they · fear · her torment.
18:16  They will lament, “Alas, alas, O great city, · · clothed in fine linen, · purple, and scarlet, · glittering with gold, · precious stones, and pearls!
18:17  For in a single hour such great wealth has been brought to ruin.” · And every sea captain and everyone who travels by sea, · sailors and those who make their living from the sea, stood at a distance
18:18  and cried out as they saw the smoke of her burning, exclaiming, “What city was ever like the great city?” ·
18:19  And they threw dust on · their heads and cried out as they wept and mourned, saying, “Alas, alas, O great city · by which all who had · ships at · sea grew rich from · her prosperity! For in a single hour she has been brought to ruin.
18:20  Rejoice over her, O heaven, and you saints and · apostles and · prophets, for God has pronounced · · judgment for you against her!”
18:21  Then a mighty angel picked up a stone the size of a huge millstone and hurled it into the sea, saying, “With this kind of violence Babylon the great city will be thrown down, and never again will it be found!
18:22  And the sound of harpists and musicians, · flute players and trumpeters, will never again be heard; · craftsman of any trade will never again be found in you, and the sound of the mill will never again be heard in you;
18:23  · the light of a lamp will never again shine in you, and the voice of bridegroom and bride will never again be heard in you; for · your merchants were the great ones of the earth, and all nations were deceived by · your magic spells. ·
18:24  And in her was found the blood of prophets and of saints, and of all who have been slain on the earth.”
