8:1  When he came down · from the mountain, large crowds were following him.
8:2  · A leper came up to him, knelt down, and said, “Lord, if you are willing, you can make me clean.”
8:3  · Jesus stretched out his hand and touched him, saying, “I am willing; be made clean.” And immediately his leprosy was cleansed. ·
8:4  Then Jesus said to him, · “See that you tell no one; but go, show yourself to the priest, and offer the gift that Moses commanded, as a testimony to them.”
8:5  When Jesus entered · Capernaum, a centurion came to him and pleaded with him,
8:6  · saying, “Lord, · my servant is lying at · home paralyzed, suffering terribly.”
8:7  And Jesus said to him, “I will come and heal him.”
8:8  But the centurion replied, “Lord, I am not worthy for you to come under my · roof, but just say the word and my servant will be healed. ·
8:9  For I too am a man under authority, with soldiers under me. · I say to this one, ‘Go!’ and he goes, and to another, ‘Come!’ and he comes, and to my servant, ‘Do this!’ and he does it.”
8:10  When Jesus heard · · this, he was amazed and said to those who were following, “I tell you the truth, I have not found faith like this in anyone in · Israel.
8:11  I tell · you, many will come from the east and west · to recline at table with Abraham and Isaac and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven,
8:12  but the sons of the kingdom will be cast out into · outer darkness, · where there will be · weeping and · gnashing of teeth.”
8:13  And Jesus said · to the centurion, “Go; it will be done for you just as you believed.” And his servant was healed · at that very hour.
8:14  And when Jesus entered · · Peter’s house, he saw · his mother-in-law lying · sick with a fever.
8:15  · He touched · her hand, and her fever left her. Then she got up and began to serve him.
8:16  Now when evening came, they brought to him many who were possessed by demons, and he drove out the spirits with a word and healed all who were ill.
8:17  In this way what was spoken by Isaiah the prophet was fulfilled: “He took · our illnesses and carried our diseases.”
8:18  Now when Jesus saw · a crowd around him, he gave orders to go to the other side of the lake.
8:19  · A scribe came to him and said, “Teacher, I will follow you wherever you go.”
8:20  And Jesus said to him, · · “Foxes have lairs and · birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has no place to lay his head.”
8:21  Another · of his disciples said to him, “Lord, permit me first to go and bury · my father.”
8:22  · And Jesus said to him, “Follow me, and let the dead bury · their own dead.”
8:23  Then he got into the boat and his disciples followed him. ·
8:24  Suddenly a violent storm arose on the sea, so that the boat was being swamped by the waves; but he was asleep.
8:25  · The disciples went to him and woke him, crying out, “Lord, save us! We are perishing!”
8:26  And he said to them, “Why are you so afraid, you of little faith?” Then he rose and rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was a great calm.
8:27  And the men were amazed and said, “What sort of man is this that even the winds and the sea obey him?”
8:28  And when he came to the other side, to the region of the Gadarenes, there met him two demoniacs coming out from the tombs. They were so violent that no one could pass by · that way.
8:29  · They cried out, “What do you have to do with us, · Son of God? Have you come here before the appointed time to torment us?”
8:30  · Some distance from them there was a large herd of pigs feeding.
8:31  And the demons begged him, saying, “If you drive us out, send us into the herd of pigs.”
8:32  And he said to them, “Be gone.” So they came out and went into the pigs. Then the entire herd rushed down the steep bank into the sea and drowned in the waters.
8:33  The · herdsmen fled, · went into the town, and told everything that had happened to the demoniacs.
8:34  Then the entire town went out to meet · Jesus; and when they saw him, they begged him to leave · their region.
