6:1  “Take care not to perform · your good deeds before · others so as · to be seen by them; otherwise · you have no reward from · your Father who is in · heaven.
6:2  So whenever you give alms do not sound a trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, so that they may be praised by · others. I tell you the truth, they have received · their reward.
6:3  But when you are giving alms, do not let your left hand know · what your right hand is doing, ·
6:4  so that your almsgiving may be · in · secret; and · your Father who sees in · secret will reward you.
6:5  “And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in · synagogues and on · street corners · that they may be seen by others. I tell you the truth, they have received · their reward.
6:6  But when you pray, go into · your room, and shuting · your door, pray to your Father who is in · secret; and · your Father who sees in · secret will reward you.
6:7  “And when you are praying, do not babble on, as the Gentiles do, for they think that they will be heard for · their many words.
6:8  Do not be like them, for your Father knows · what you need before · you ask him.
6:9  Pray then like this: ‘Our Father · in · heaven, may your name be revered, ·
6:10  may your kingdom come, · may your will be done, · on earth as it is in heaven. ·
6:11  Give us today · our daily bread, ·
6:12  and forgive us · our sins, as we also forgive those who sin against us.
6:13  And do not bring us into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.’
6:14  “For if you forgive · others · their offenses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you; · ·
6:15  but if you do not forgive · others their offenses, neither will · your Father forgive · your offenses.
6:16  “And when you fast, do not put on a gloomy face as the hypocrites do, for they disfigure · their faces so that they will appear to others as fasting; I tell you the truth, they have · their reward.
6:17  But when you fast, anoint your · head with oil and wash · your face,
6:18  so that you will not appear to others as fasting, but by your Father who is in · secret; and · your Father who sees in · secret will reward you.
6:19  “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on · earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal;
6:20  but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys, and where thieves do not break in and steal.
6:21  For where your treasure is, · there your heart will be also. ·
6:22  “The lamp of the body is the eye. If then your eye is · healthy, your whole · body will be filled with light;
6:23  but if · your eye is evil, your whole · body will be filled with darkness. If then the light that is in you is darkness, how great is that darkness!
6:24  “No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and possessions.
6:25  “Therefore I say to you, ‘Do not be anxious about · your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, or about your body, what you will put on. Is not · life more than · food and the body more than · clothing?
6:26  Look at the birds of the air, they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet · your heavenly Father · feeds them. Are you not more valuable than they?
6:27  And which of you by being anxious can add a single cubit to · his height?
6:28  And why are you anxious about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they do not toil nor do they spin;
6:29  but I say to you that not even Solomon in all · his royal splendor was clothed like one of these.
6:30  Now if God so clothes the grass of the field, which is here today but tomorrow is thrown into the oven, · will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith?
6:31  So then, do not be anxious, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or, ‘What shall we drink?’ or, ‘With what shall we clothe ourselves?’—
6:32  for the Gentiles pursue all these things—for your heavenly Father knows · · that you need them all.
6:33  But seek first the kingdom of God and · his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.
6:34  Therefore do not be anxious about · tomorrow, · for tomorrow will be anxious about itself. Sufficient for the day is · its own trouble.
