16:1 When the Sabbath was past, Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James, and Salome bought spices so they could go and anoint Jesus.
16:2 Very early on the first day of the week, at sunrise, they went to the tomb.
16:3 They were saying to each other, “Who will roll the stone away from the entrance to the tomb for us?”
16:4 When they looked up, they saw that the stone, which was very large, had been rolled away.
16:5 As they entered the tomb, they saw a young man dressed in a white robe sitting on the right side, and they were alarmed.
16:6 He said to them, “Do not be alarmed. You are looking for Jesus the Nazarene, who was crucified. He has risen! He is not here. See the place where they laid him.
16:7 But go, tell his disciples and Peter, ‘He is going ahead of you into Galilee. There you will see him, just as he told you.’”
16:8 They went out and hurried away from the tomb, trembling and perplexed. They said nothing to anyone, because they were afraid.
16:9 After Jesus had risen early on the first day of the week, he appeared first to Mary Magdalene, out of whom he had driven seven demons.
16:10 She went and reported to those who had been with him, as they mourned and wept.
16:11 When they heard that he was alive and had been seen by her, they did not believe it.
16:12 After these things, Jesus appeared in another form to two of them as they were walking along on their way to the country.
16:13 These two also returned and reported it to the rest. But they did not believe them either.
16:14 Later, he appeared to the Eleven themselves as they were reclining at the table. He rebuked them for their unbelief and hardness of heart, because they did not believe those who had seen him after he had risen.
16:15 He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation.
16:16 Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned.
16:17 “These signs will accompany those who believe: In my name they will drive out demons. They will speak in new languages.
16:18 They will pick up snakes. And if they drink any deadly poison, it will not harm them. They will lay their hands on the sick, and they will get well.”
16:19 Then the Lord Jesus, after he had spoken to them, was taken up into heaven and sat down at the right hand of God.
16:20 Those who went out preached everywhere, while the Lord worked with them and confirmed his word by the signs that accompanied it.
