5:1 For freedom Christ has set us free. Stand firm, therefore, and do not be subject again to a yoke of slavery.
5:2 Listen! I, Paul, tell you that if you agree to circumcision, Christ will be of no benefit to you.
5:3 And furthermore I declare to every man who agrees to circumcision that he is obligated to obey the entire law.
5:4 You have cut yourself off from Christ, you who are trying to be justified by the law; you have fallen away from grace.
5:5 For we by the Spirit, through faith, eagerly await the righteousness for which we hope.
5:6 For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision counts for anything, but only faith expressing itself through love.
5:7 You were running well; who hindered you from obeying the truth?
5:8 Such persuasion does not come from the one who calls you.
5:9 A little leaven leavens the whole lump of dough!
5:10 I am confident about you in the Lord that you will not think otherwise. But the one who is trying to confuse you will pay the penalty, whoever he may be.
5:11 But I, brothers, if I am still preaching circumcision, why am I still being persecuted? In that case the offense of the cross has been removed.
5:12 I wish · those who are disturbing you would mutilate themselves!
5:13 For you, brothers, were called to freedom. Only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but through · love serve one another.
5:14 For the entire law is summed up in a single command: “You shall love · your neighbor as yourself.”
5:15 But if you keep on biting and devouring one another, watch out that you are not consumed by one another.
5:16 So I say, live by the Spirit and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh.
5:17 For the desires of the flesh are against the Spirit, and the desires of the Spirit are against the flesh; for these are opposed to one another, to keep you from doing the things you want to do.
5:18 But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law.
5:19 Now the works of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity, debauchery,
5:21 envyings, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these. I warn you, as I warned you before: those who practice · such things will not inherit the kingdom of God!
5:22 By contrast, the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness,
5:23 gentleness, self-control; against · such things there is no law.
5:24 And those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and · desires.
5:25 Since we live by the Spirit, let us also be guided by the Spirit.
5:26 Let us not become conceited, provoking one another, being jealous of one another.
