5:1 Therefore be imitators of God as his dear children,
5:2 and live in love, just as · · Christ loved us and gave himself for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.
5:3 But sexual immorality and every kind of impurity or covetousness must not even be mentioned among you, as is proper among the saints;
5:4 nor obscenity, · foolish talk, or coarse joking, which are not fitting, but rather thanksgiving.
5:5 For you may be sure of this, that no fornicator or impure or covetous person (such a one is an idolater) has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.
5:6 Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience.
5:8 for once you were darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light
5:9 (for the fruit of light consists in all goodness, · righteousness, and truth),
5:10 always trying to discern what is pleasing to the Lord.
5:11 And do not take part in the fruitless deeds · of darkness but instead · expose them,
5:12 for it is shameful even to speak of what is done by them in secret.
5:13 · But everything that is exposed becomes illuminated by the light,
5:14 for everything that becomes illuminated is light. Therefore it says, “Wake up, · sleeper, and rise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you.” ·
5:15 So be very careful how you live, not as unwise people but as wise,
5:16 making the most of the time, because the days are evil.
5:17 Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is.
5:18 And do not get drunk with wine, in which is debauchery; instead, be filled with the Spirit,
5:19 speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and songs inspired by the Spirit; singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord,
5:20 giving thanks in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to God the Father at all times and for everything. ·
5:21 Be subject to one another out of reverence for Christ.
5:22 · Wives, be subject to your husbands as to the Lord,
5:23 for the husband is the head of the wife as Christ also · is the head of the church, and is himself the savior of the body.
5:24 But as the church is subject to Christ, so also should · wives be subject to their husbands in everything.
5:25 · Husbands, love your wives, just as · · Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her,
5:26 that he might sanctify her, cleansing her by the washing of water through the word,
5:27 so that he might present the church to himself in splendor, not having spot or wrinkle or any · such thing, but that she might be holy and without blemish.
5:28 In the same way husbands also should · love · their wives as · their own bodies. He who loves · his wife loves himself,
5:29 for no one ever hates · his own body but nourishes and takes care of it, just as · · Christ does the church,
5:31 “For this reason a man shall leave his father and his mother and be joined to · his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.”
5:32 · This mystery is profound, but I am speaking about Christ and about the church.
5:33 Nevertheless, · each one of you · is to love · his wife as he loves himself, and the wife is to respect her husband.
