9:1  · But Saul, still breathing threat and murder against the disciples of the Lord, went to the high priest
9:2  and requested from him letters to Damascus addressed to the synagogues, that if he found any who were of the Way, men or women, he should bring them bound to Jerusalem.
9:3  As · he traveled along, approaching · Damascus, suddenly a light from heaven shone all around him; ·
9:4  and falling to the ground, he heard a voice saying to him, “Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting me?”
9:5  And he said, “Who are you, Lord?” And he said, “I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting.
9:6  But rise and go into the city, and it will be told you what you must do.”
9:7  The · men who were traveling with him stood speechless, hearing the voice but seeing no one.
9:8  So Saul got up from the ground, but although his eyes were open, · he could see nothing. So they led him by the hand and brought him into Damascus.
9:9  And he was three days without sight and neither ate nor drank anything.
9:10  Now there was a disciple at Damascus named Ananias; and the Lord said to him in a vision, “Ananias.” And he replied, “Here I am, Lord.”
9:11  Then the Lord told him, “Get up and go to the street · called ‘Straight,’ and inquire at the house of Judas for a man from Tarsus named Saul, for even now he is praying,
9:12  and in a vision he has seen a man named Ananias come in and lay his hands on him so that he might regain his sight.”
9:13  But Ananias answered, “Lord, I have heard from many about · this man, how much harm he did to your saints at Jerusalem.
9:14  And here he has authority from the chief priests to imprison all who call on · your name.”
9:15  But the Lord said to him, “Go, for this man is for me a chosen instrument to carry · my name before both Gentiles and kings and the sons of Israel,
9:16  for I will show him how much he must suffer for the sake of my name.”
9:17  So Ananias went and entered the house; · he placed his hands on Saul and said, “Brother Saul, the Lord Jesus, who appeared to you on the road by which you came, has sent me so that you may recover your sight and be filled with the Holy Spirit.”
9:18  And immediately something like flakes fell from his · eyes, and he regained his sight. Then he got up and was baptized;
9:19  and taking food, he was strengthened. And he was with the disciples in Damascus for several days.
9:20  And right away he began proclaiming Jesus in the synagogues, · that this man is the Son of God.
9:21  And all who heard him were astonished and said, “Is not this the man who in Jerusalem was trying to destroy those who called on · this name? And has he not come here for the very purpose of bringing them bound before the chief priests?”
9:22  But Saul became more and more capable, and threw into confusion the Jews who lived in Damascus by proving that this man Jesus is the Christ.
9:23  Now after some days had passed, the Jews plotted together to kill him,
9:24  but their plot was made known to Saul. · They kept close watch on · · the gates day and night so that they might kill him;
9:25  but his disciples took · him by night and let him down through an opening in the wall, lowering him in a basket.
9:26  When he came · to Jerusalem, he attempted to join the disciples; but they were all afraid of him, not believing that he was a disciple.
9:27  But Barnabas took him and brought him to the apostles and he related to them how on the road he had seen the Lord, and that the Lord had spoken to him, and how in Damascus he had spoken out boldly in the name of Jesus.
9:28  And he was with them, going in and out at Jerusalem, speaking out boldly in the name of the Lord.
9:29  He was talking and disputing with the Greek-speaking Jews, but they were looking for a way to kill him.
9:30  And when the brothers learned about this, they took him down to Caesarea and sent him off to Tarsus.
9:31  So the church throughout all · Judea and Galilee and Samaria had peace; being built up, and walking in the fear of the Lord and in the comfort of the Holy Spirit, it increased in number.
9:32  Now as Peter was traveling through the entire region, he also came down to the saints who were living in Lydda.
9:33  And he found there a man named Aeneas, bedridden for eight years, who was paralyzed.
9:34  · Peter said to him, · “Aeneas, Jesus Christ heals you. Get up and make your own bed!” And immediately he got up.
9:35  And all who lived in Lydda and · Sharon saw him, and they turned to the Lord.
9:36  Now in Joppa there was a disciple named Tabitha, which when translated means Dorcas. She was full of good works and acts of charity, which she was always doing.
9:37  In those days she became · · ill and died; and when they had washed her, they laid her in an upper room.
9:38  Since Lydda is near · · Joppa, the disciples, hearing that Peter was there, sent two men to him urging him, “Do not delay in coming to us.”
9:39  So Peter got up and went with them; and when he arrived, they took him to the upper room. · All the widows stood beside him, weeping and showing the tunics and other clothing Dorcas used to make while she was still with them. ·
9:40  But Peter put them all outside, · and falling to his knees he prayed; then turning toward the dead body, he said, “Tabitha, get up!” And she opened · her eyes, and seeing · Peter, she sat up.
9:41  And he gave her his hand and raised her up; then he called the saints and · widows and presented her alive.
9:42  And it became known throughout all · Joppa, and many believed on the Lord.
9:43  And he stayed a number of days in Joppa with a certain Simon, a tanner.
