18:1  After this Paul departed from · Athens and went to Corinth.
18:2  And finding a certain Jew named Aquila, a native of Pontus, · recently come from · Italy with his wife Priscilla because · Claudius had commanded all the Jews to depart from · Rome, he approached them,
18:3  and because he was of the same trade he stayed with them and worked, for they were tentmakers by trade.
18:4  And he reasoned in the synagogue every Sabbath and tried to persuade Jews and Greeks.
18:5  When · Silas and Timothy came down from · Macedonia, · · Paul was wholly absorbed with preaching the word, · testifying to the Jews that Jesus was the Messiah.
18:6  But when they opposed and reviled him, he shook out his garments and said to them, · “Your blood be on · your own head! I am guiltless. From · now on I will go to the Gentiles.”
18:7  And he left there and went to the house of one named Titius Justus, a worshiper of · God, whose · house was next door to the synagogue.
18:8  Crispus, · the ruler of the synagogue, believed in the Lord, together with his entire · household; and many of the Corinthians upon hearing about it, believed and were baptized.
18:9  And the Lord said to Paul during the night in a vision, “Do not be afraid, but go on speaking and do not be silent,
18:10  because I am with you and no one will lay a hand on you to do you harm, for I have many people in · this city.”
18:11  So he stayed there a year and six months, teaching among them the word of God.
18:12  But when Gallio was proconsul of Achaia, the Jews rose up with one accord against · Paul and brought him before the tribunal,
18:13  saying, “This man is persuading · men to worship · God in a way contrary to the law.”
18:14  But when Paul was about · to open his mouth, Gallio said · to the Jews, “If it were a matter of wrongdoing or a serious piece of villainy, O Jews, it would be reasonable for me to put up with you.
18:15  But if the questions are about a word and names and your own law, see to it yourselves. I do not wish to be a judge of these matters.”
18:16  And he drove them from the tribunal.
18:17  And they all took hold of Sosthenes, the ruler of the synagogue, and began to beat him in front of the tribunal. But none of these things were of concern to Gallio.
18:18  · · Paul, after remaining there for a number of days, said farewell to the brothers and sailed away to · Syria, and with him were Priscilla and Aquila. At Cenchreae he had his head shaved, for he had taken a vow.
18:19  And they went to Ephesus, and he left them there but he himself went into the synagogue and reasoned with the Jews.
18:20  When they asked · him to stay a longer time, he would not consent
18:21  but bade farewell, · saying, “I will come back to you again, · God willing.” Then he set sail from · Ephesus,
18:22  and when he touched land at Caesarea, he went up and greeted the church and then went down to Antioch.
18:23  · After spending some time there, he departed and made his way from place to place through the Galatian country and Phrygia, strengthening all the disciples.
18:24  Now a Jew named Apollos, an Alexandrian by race, arrived in Ephesus. He was an eloquent man, well-versed in the Scriptures.
18:25  He had been instructed in the way of the Lord; and being fervent in spirit, he spoke and taught accurately the facts about · Jesus, though he knew only the baptism of John.
18:26  He began to speak boldly in the synagogue, but when they heard him, Priscilla and Aquila took him and explained more accurately to him the way of God.
18:27  And when he wanted to continue on into · Achaia, the brothers encouraged him and wrote to the disciples to welcome him. When he arrived there, he greatly helped those who had come to believe through · grace,
18:28  for he powerfully refuted the Jews in public, demonstrating by the Scriptures that Jesus was the Messiah.
