11:1  Now the apostles and the brothers who were throughout · Judea heard that the Gentiles too had accepted the word of God.
11:2  So when Peter went up to Jerusalem, they who were of the circumcision took issue with him,
11:3  saying, “You went to a house of uncircumcised men and ate with them.”
11:4  But Peter began and explained to them in an orderly fashion, saying,
11:5  “I was in the city of Joppa, praying, and in a trance I saw a vision, an object descending, like a great sheet being let down by its four corners from · heaven, and it came close to me.
11:6  I looked into it closely and I saw · four-footed animals of the earth, · · wild animals, · · reptiles, and · birds of the air.
11:7  I also heard · a voice saying to me, ‘Get up, Peter; slaughter and eat!’
11:8  But I said, ‘By no means, Lord; for nothing common or unclean has ever entered into · my mouth.’
11:9  But the voice replied a second time from · heaven, ‘What · God has made clean, you must not consider common.’
11:10  This · happened three times, and again everything was drawn up into · heaven.
11:11  And behold, at that very moment three men arrived at the house, in which we were, sent from Caesarea to me.
11:12  And the Spirit told me to go with them without hesitating. And with me went also · these six brothers, and we went into the house of the man.
11:13  And he told us how he had seen the angel standing in · his house and saying, ‘Send to Joppa and summon Simon, who is called Peter,
11:14  who will speak words to you by which you and your entire household will be saved.’ ·
11:15  And as I began to speak, the Holy Spirit fell · upon them just as he did upon us at the beginning.
11:16  And I remembered the word of the Lord, how he said, ‘John indeed baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.’
11:17  If then God gave the same gift to them · as · he gave to us when we believed in the Lord Jesus Christ, who was I to be able to stand in God’s way?” ·
11:18  When they heard · these things, they fell silent, and they glorified · God, saying, “So then even to the Gentiles · God has granted · repentance that leads to life.”
11:19  Now those who were scattered because of the persecution, which came to pass over Stephen, made their way as far as Phoenicia and Cyprus and Antioch, speaking the word to no one except Jews only.
11:20  But there were some of them, men of Cyprus and Cyrene, who on coming to Antioch began to speak also to the Hellenists, preaching the Lord Jesus.
11:21  And the hand of the Lord was with them, and a great number became · believers and turned to the Lord.
11:22  The report of all this was heard · in the ears of the church · in Jerusalem, and they sent Barnabas as far as Antioch.
11:23  When he came and saw the grace · of God, he was glad, and he began to exhort them all to remain faithful to the Lord in the purpose of their hearts,
11:24  for he was a good man, · full of the Holy Spirit and of faith. And a considerable number of people were brought to the Lord.
11:25  So Barnabas went to Tarsus to look for Saul,
11:26  and when he had found him, he brought him to Antioch. · · For a whole year they met with the church and taught a considerable number of people. And in Antioch the disciples were first called Christians.
11:27  During these · · days prophets came down from Jerusalem to Antioch.
11:28  And one of them stood up, named Agabus, and indicated by the Spirit that there would be a great famine over all the world (which took place in the days of Claudius).
11:29  So each of the disciples, according to his financial ability, resolved to send relief to the brothers living in · Judea,
11:30  and they did so, sending it to the elders by the hand of Barnabas and Saul.
