| 90:1 | | Oh, I attest by this city [of Mecca] to witness. | | 90:2 | | You [Prophet Muhammed] are free from restriction in this city… | | 90:3 | | …and a parent and child. | | 90:4 | | Truly, We have created humanity into struggle. | | 90:5 | | Does he/she not think that there is a greater power above him/her? | | 90:6 | | He/she may boast, “I have spent abundant wealth.” | | 90:7 | | Does he/she not think that someone sees? | | 90:8 | | Have We not made for each person a pair of eyes [in order to see the right way]? | | 90:9 | | [Have We not made] a tongue [with which to ask for guidance], and two lips [with which to speak truth]? | | 90:10 | | [Have We not] shown him/her the two roads? | | 90:11 | | But (humanity) has made no haste on the road that is high. | | 90:12 | | What will explain what is meant by “the road that is high”? | | 90:13 | | It is giving freedom to the enslaved. | | 90:14 | | It is giving food during a time of famine. | | 90:15 | | [It is providing] for the orphaned relative… | | 90:16 | | …or any poor person in dire need. | | 90:17 | | Then he/she is among the believers and endorses patience and compassion. | | 90:18 | | Such people are the companions of the right hand. | | 90:19 | | Those who reject Our signs, however, are the companions of the left hand. | | 90:20 | | Over them will be walls of fire. |
