90:1 | | "No, I swear by this citty (of Makkah) --" | 90:2 | | and you (Mu?ammad) are a free man of this city | 90:3 | | "by the father and his children," | 90:4 | | surely We have created man to endure hardship | 90:5 | | Does he think that no one has power over him | 90:6 | | "He (boastfully) says, 'I have spent so much money on whatever I wanted.'" | 90:7 | | Does he think that no one sees him | 90:8 | | "Have We not given him two eyes," | 90:9 | | "and a tongue and two lips," | 90:10 | | and shown him the two main roads (to good and evil) | 90:11 | | But he has not tried the steep path | 90:12 | | and what will make you understand what the steep path is | 90:13 | | "It is to free a slave," | 90:14 | | "or to feed, on a day of hunger," | 90:15 | | "an orphan in the family," | 90:16 | | or some poor man in need | 90:17 | | "and to be one of those who have faith, and encourage each other to patiently endure, and encourage each other to have mercy." | 90:18 | | They are the Companions of the Right Hand | 90:19 | | "And as for those who do not believe in Our signs, they are the Companions of the Left Hand;" | 90:20 | | "above them is a Fire, enclosed." |
