| 90:1 | | I swear by this city, | | 90:2 | | this city in which you are a dweller, | | 90:3 | | by parent and offspring: | | 90:4 | | indeed, We have created man in affliction. | | 90:5 | | Does he think that no one has power over him? | | 90:6 | | He says: 'I have spent abundant wealth.' | | 90:7 | | Does he think that none observes him? | | 90:8 | | Have We not given him two eyes, | | 90:9 | | a tongue, and two lips, | | 90:10 | | and shown him the two paths? | | 90:11 | | Yet he would not scale the Ascent. | | 90:12 | | Would that you knew what the Ascent is. | | 90:13 | | It is the freeing of a slave, | | 90:14 | | or the feeding, on a day of famine, | | 90:15 | | of an orphaned near of kin, | | 90:16 | | or a needy man in distress, | | 90:17 | | and to be of those who believe and enjoin on one another to be patient in adversity, and enjoin mercy on one another. | | 90:18 | | Those who do this shall be on the right hand. | | 90:19 | | And those who deny Our revelations shall bon the left hand, | | 90:20 | | with fire closing in upon them. |
