| | Edward Henry Palmer rendition of Surah The City, This Countryside(al-Balad) --- |
---|
90:1 | | I need not swear by the Lord of this land | 90:2 | | and though a dweller in this land | 90:3 | | Nor by the begetter and what he begets | 90:4 | | We have surely created man in trouble | 90:5 | | Does he think that none can do aught against him | 90:6 | | He says, I have wasted wealth in plenty | 90:7 | | does he think that no one sees him | 90:8 | | Have we not made for him two eye | 90:9 | | and a tongue, and two lips | 90:10 | | and guided him in the two highways | 90:11 | | but he will not attempt the steep | 90:12 | | And what shall make thee know what the steep is | 90:13 | | It is freeing captives | 90:14 | | or feeding on the day of famine | 90:15 | | an orphan who is akin | 90:16 | | or a poor man who lies in the dust | 90:17 | | and again (it is) to be of these who believe and encourage each other to patience, and encourage each other to mercy, | 90:18 | | these are the fellows of the right | 90:19 | | But those who disbelieve in our signs, they are the fellows of the left | 90:20 | | for them is fire that closes in |
