| | Ahmed Ali rendition of Surah The Dawn, Daybreak(al-Fajr) --- |
---|
89:1 | | I CALL TO witness the daw |
89:2 | | And the Ten Nights |
89:3 | | The multiple and the one |
89:4 | | The night as it advances |
89:5 | | Is there not an evidence in this for those who have sense |
89:6 | | Have you not seen what your Lord did to the 'A |
89:7 | | Of Eram with lofty pillars (erected as signposts in the desert) |
89:8 | | The like of whom were never created in the realm |
89:9 | | And with Thamud who carved rocks in the valley |
89:10 | | And the mighty Pharao |
89:11 | | Who terrorised the region |
89:12 | | And multiplied corruption |
89:13 | | So your Lord poured a scourge of punishment over them |
89:14 | | Your Lord is certainly in wait |
89:15 | | As for man, whenever his Lord tries him and then is gracious and provides good things for him, he says: "My Lord has been gracious to me." |
89:16 | | But when He tries him by restraining his means, he says: "My Lord despises me." |
89:17 | | No. In fact you are not generous to the orphans |
89:18 | | Nor do you urge one another to feed the poor |
89:19 | | And you devour (others') inheritance greedily |
89:20 | | And love wealth with all your heart |
89:21 | | Surely when We pound the earth to powder grounded, pounded to dust |
89:22 | | And comes your Lord, and angels row on row |
89:23 | | And Hell is brought near, that day will man remember, but of what avail will then remembering be |
89:24 | | He will say: "Alas the woe! Would that I had sent ahead something in my life." |
89:25 | | None can punish as He will punish on that day |
89:26 | | And none can bind as He will bind |
89:27 | | O you tranquil soul |
89:28 | | Return to your Lord, well-pleased and well-pleasing Him |
89:29 | | "Enter then among My votaries |
89:30 | | Enter then My garden." |
