| | N J Dawood (2014) rendition of Surah The Rising of the Dead, Resurrection(al-Qiyamah) --- |
---|
75:1 | | I SWEAR by the Day of Resurrection |
75:2 | | and by the self-reproaching soul |
75:3 | | Does man think We shall never put his bones together again |
75:4 | | Indeed, We can remould his very fingers |
75:5 | | Yet man would ever deny what is to come |
75:6 | | ‘When will this be,‘ he asks, ‘this Day of Resurrection?&lsquo |
75:7 | | But when the sight of mortals is confounde |
75:8 | | and the moon eclipsed |
75:9 | | when sun and moon are joined togethe |
75:10 | | on that day man will ask: ‘Whither shall I flee?&lsquo |
75:11 | | No, there shall be no refuge |
75:12 | | for to your Lord, on that day, all shall be restored |
75:13 | | Indeed, man shall on that day be told of all he did, from first to last |
75:14 | | Indeed, man shall bear witness against himself |
75:15 | | plead as he may with his excuses |
75:16 | | (You¹ need not move your tongue too fast to learn this revelation |
75:17 | | We Ourself shall see to its collection and recital |
75:18 | | When We read it, follow its words attentively |
75:19 | | We shall Ourself explain its meaning. |
75:20 | | No! But you² love this fleeting life |
75:21 | | and ignore the life to come |
75:22 | | On that day there shall be joyous faces |
75:23 | | looking towards their Lord |
75:24 | | On that day there shall be mournful faces |
75:25 | | dreading some great affliction |
75:26 | | No! But when a man‘s soul is about to leave hi |
75:27 | | and those around him say: ‘Will no one save him?&lsquo |
75:28 | | When he knows it is the final partin |
75:29 | | and leg and leg are twined ― |
75:30 | | on that day to your Lord he shall be driven |
75:31 | | For in this life he neither believed nor prayed |
75:32 | | he denied the Truth and, turning his back |
75:33 | | went to his kin elated with pride |
75:34 | | Well have you deserved this doom; well have you deserved it |
75:35 | | Well have you deserved this doom: too well have you deserved it |
75:36 | | Does man think he will be left alone, to no purpose |
75:37 | | Was he not a drop of ejaculated semen |
75:38 | | He became a clot of blood;³ then God formed and moulded him |
75:39 | | and gave him male and female parts |
75:40 | | Has He no power, then, to raise the dead to life |
