| | John Medows Rodwell rendition of Surah The Rising of the Dead, Resurrection(al-Qiyamah) --- |
---|
75:1 | | It needeth not that I swear by the day of the RESURRECTION |
75:2 | | Or that I swear by the self-accusing soul |
75:3 | | Thinketh man that we shall not re-unite his bones |
75:4 | | Aye! his very finger tips are we able evenly to replace |
75:5 | | But man chooseth to deny what is before him |
75:6 | | He asketh, "When this day of Resurrection?" |
75:7 | | But when the eye shall be dazzled |
75:8 | | And when the moon shall be darkened |
75:9 | | And the sun and the moon shall be together |
75:10 | | On that day man shall cry, "Where is there a place to flee to?" |
75:11 | | But in vain - there is no refuge |
75:12 | | With thy Lord on that day shall be the sole asylum |
75:13 | | On that day shall man be told of all that he hath done first and last |
75:14 | | Yea, a man shall be the eye witness against himself |
75:15 | | And even if he put forth his plea. . . |
75:16 | | (Move not thy tongue in haste to follow and master this revelation |
75:17 | | For we will see to the collecting and the recital of it |
75:18 | | But when we have recited it, then follow thou the recital |
75:19 | | And, verily, afterwards it shall be ours to make it clear to thee. |
75:20 | | Aye, but ye love the transitory |
75:21 | | And ye neglect the life to come |
75:22 | | On that day shall faces beam with light |
75:23 | | Outlooking towards their Lord |
75:24 | | And faces on that day shall be dismal |
75:25 | | As if they thought that some great calamity would befal them |
75:26 | | Aye, when the soul shall come up into the throat |
75:27 | | And there shall be a cry, "Who hath a charm that can restore him?" |
75:28 | | And the man feeleth that the time of his departure is come |
75:29 | | And when one leg shall be laid over the other |
75:30 | | To thy Lord on that day shall he be driven on |
75:31 | | For he believed not, and he did not pray |
75:32 | | But he called the truth a lie and turned his back |
75:33 | | Then, walking with haughty men, rejoined his people |
75:34 | | That Hour is nearer to thee and nearer |
75:35 | | It is ever nearer to thee and nearer still |
75:36 | | Thinketh man that he shall be left supreme |
75:37 | | Was he not a mere embryo |
75:38 | | Then he became thick blood of which God formed him and fashioned him |
75:39 | | And made him twain, male and female |
75:40 | | Is not He powerful enough to quicken the dead |
