| | Linda “iLHam” Barto rendition of Surah The Enshrouded One, Bundled Up, The Mantled One(al-Muzammil) --- |
---|
73:1 | | O you shrouded in garments,… |
73:2 | | …stand by night [in prayer], except a little. |
73:3 | | [Stand] half of it or a little less… |
73:4 | | …or a little more. Recite the Qur’an in slow, measured, rhythmic tones. |
73:5 | | Indeed, We shall bestow to you a profound message. |
73:6 | | Truly, the rising by night is very studious and most effective and most suitable for the Word. |
73:7 | | True, there is for you by day prolonged occupation. |
73:8 | | But remember the name of your Lord and devote yourself wholeheartedly to Him. |
73:9 | | [He is] Lord of the East and the West. No god is there except Him. Accept Him, therefore, as your defender. |
73:10 | | Also, have patience with what (the unbelievers) say, and abandon them in a dignified manner. |
73:11 | | Leave to Me those who deny while possessing blessings. Tolerate them a while longer. |
73:12 | | With Us are restraints and a fire,… |
73:13 | | …and a food that chokes, and a painful torture. |
73:14 | | One day the earth and the mountains will quake and heave. The mountains will become like piles of sand sliding down. |
73:15 | | We have sent to you a messenger to witness to you, just as We sent a messenger to Pharaoh. |
73:16 | | Pharaoh, however, did not believe the messenger, so We seized him with a heavy punishment. |
73:17 | | How then can you, if you disbelieve, protect yourselves against a day that will cause children to become old? |
73:18 | | The sky will rip apart! His promise will be realized! |
73:19 | | Truly, this is a reminder; therefore, whosoever will come may come on the path to his/her Lord. |
73:20 | | Your Lord certainly knows that you stand praying nearly two-thirds of the night or half the night or a third of the night, and so does a party of those with you. But Allah appoints night and day in due measure. He knows that you are unable to keep count thereof. So He has responded to you. Read, therefore, as much of the Qur’an as may be easy for you. He knows that there may be among you some sick ones. [He knows there be] others traveling through the land, seeking Allah’s bounty, and others fighting in Allah’s cause. Read, therefore, as much of the Qur’an as may be easy for you. Establish routine prayer, and give consistently to charity. Loan to Allah a beautiful loan, and whatever good you invest for your souls, you shall find it in Allah’s presence. [It will be] even better and greater in reward. And seek the grace of Allah, for Allah is the Most Forgiving, the Most Merciful. |
