| | T.B.Irving rendition of Surah Smoke, The Evident Smoke(ad-Dukhan) --- |
---|
44:1 | | H.M. |
44:2 | | By the Clear Book |
44:3 | | which We sent down on a blessed night We have been warning about! |
44:4 | | In it every wise matter is set forth |
44:5 | | as a command from Our presence; We have been sending |
44:6 | | mercy from your Lord. He is the Alert, Aware, |
44:7 | | Lord of Heaven and Earth and anything in between them, if you will be convinced. |
44:8 | | There is no deity except Him; He gives life and brings death, your Lord and the Lord of your earliest ancestors. |
44:9 | | Instead they play around with doubt. |
44:10 | | Watch out for the day when the sky will bring obvious smoke |
44:11 | | to envelop mankind; this will mean painful torment: |
44:12 | | "Our Lord, remove the torment from us; we are believers!" |
44:13 | | Yet they had the Reminder, and an obvious messenger had already come to them. |
44:14 | | Then they turned away from him and said: "He has been taught it; [he´s] so crazy!" |
44:15 | | Were We to lift the torment for a while, you would still revert [to it]! |
44:16 | | Some day We will kidnap everyone in the greatest operation; We shall be Avenged! |
44:17 | | We tested Pharaoh´s folk before them, and a noble messenger came to them: |
44:18 | | "Hand over God´s servants to me. I am a trustworthy messenger for you. |
44:19 | | Do not act so haughtily concerning God: I bring you clear authority. |
44:20 | | I have sought refuge with my Lord and your Lord, lest you cast me out. |
44:21 | | If you do not believe in me, then keep away from me." |
44:22 | | So he appealed to his Lord: "These are criminal folk!" |
44:23 | | "Travel with My servants at night for you will be followed. |
44:24 | | Leave the sea parted; they are an army who will be drowned." |
44:25 | | How man gardens and fountains have they left behind! |
44:26 | | And crops and a splendid position |
44:27 | | and a life of ease they were delighted with. |
44:28 | | Even so We let other folk inherit it from them. |
44:29 | | Neither Heaven nor Earth wept over them, nor were they allowed to wait. |
44:30 | | So We saved the Children of Israel from shameful torment, |
44:31 | | from Pharaoh, who was haughty, so dissipated. |
44:32 | | We chose them knowingly ahead of [anyone in] the Universe; |
44:33 | | and gave them signs which contained an obvious test. |
44:34 | | Yet the latter kept on saying: |
44:35 | | "There is only this first death of ours; we will not be raised again. |
44:36 | | Bring on our forefathers if you have been truthful." |
44:37 | | Are they any better than the people of Tubba and the ones before them whom We wiped out? They were such criminals! |
44:38 | | We did not create Heaven and Earth and anything in between them just by playing around. |
44:39 | | We have created them both only [to reveal] the Truth, even though most of them do not realize it. |
44:40 | | The Day for Sorting things out will mean an appointment for everyone, |
44:41 | | a day when no patron will be able to help a favorite out in any way nor will they be supported |
44:42 | | except for someone whom God has shown mercy to. He is the Powerful, the Merciful. |
44:43 | | The infernal tree |
44:44 | | will be food for the sinner; |
44:45 | | like molten copper, it will seethe inside (their) bellies |
44:46 | | like a bathhouse boiler: |
44:47 | | "Take him and drag him into the midst of Hades! |
44:48 | | Then pour some torment of scalding water over his head: |
44:49 | | ´Taste it; you were such a powerful noble!"´ |
44:50 | | This is what you (all) were puzzling over!"´ |
44:51 | | The heedful will be in a safe position |
44:52 | | among gardens and springs. |
44:53 | | They will wear satin and brocade as they sit facing one another, just like that; |
44:54 | | and We will wed them to dark-eyed damsels |
44:55 | | They will call confidently for every kind of fruit in it. |
44:56 | | They will not taste death there except for the very first death [they had]. He will shield them from the torment of Hades |
44:57 | | as a boon from your Lord; that will be the supreme Achievement! |
44:58 | | We have made it easy for your tongue [to recite] in order that they may bear this in mind. |
44:59 | | So watch out: they too are watching! |
