| | Wahiduddin Khan rendition of Surah Smoke, The Evident Smoke(ad-Dukhan) --- |
---|
44:1 | | Ha Mi |
44:2 | | By the Book that makes things clear |
44:3 | | surely We sent it down on a blessed nightWe have always sent warning |
44:4 | | on that night every wise decree is specifie |
44:5 | | by Our own commandWe have been sending messages |
44:6 | | as a mercy from your Lord, He hears all and knows all |
44:7 | | He is the Lord of heaven and earth and all that is between themif only you would really believ |
44:8 | | there is no deity save Him: It is He who gives both life and deathHe is your Lord, and the Lord of your forefathers |
44:9 | | yet, they toy with their doubts |
44:10 | | [Prophet], watch out for the Day when the sky brings forth plainly visible clouds of smoke |
44:11 | | That will envelop the people. This will be a painful punishment |
44:12 | | Then they will say, Lord, relieve us from this torment, for truly we are now believers in You |
44:13 | | How can they benefit from admonition, seeing that a messenger had already come to them explaining things clearly |
44:14 | | Then they turned away from him and said, He is a madman, taught by others |
44:15 | | Were We to ease the torment for a while, you would still revert to denial of the truth |
44:16 | | On the Day We inflict the direst scourge upon all sinners, We will certainly exact retribution |
44:17 | | We tried the people of Pharaoh before them: a noble messenger was sent to them |
44:18 | | saying, Hand over God's servants to me. I am a trustworthy messenger for you |
44:19 | | Do not set yourselves above God: I bring you clear authority |
44:20 | | I have sought refuge with my Lord and your Lord lest you stone me [to death] |
44:21 | | If you do not believe in me, at least keep away from me |
44:22 | | Then he cried out to his Lord, These are sinful people |
44:23 | | God said, Set out with My servants by night, for you will certainly be pursued |
44:24 | | Leave the sea behind you parted; they are a host destined to be drowned |
44:25 | | How many gardens and fountains they left behind them |
44:26 | | and cornfields and splendid buildings |
44:27 | | and pleasant things in which they delighted |
44:28 | | Such was their end, and what had been theirs We gave to other people to inherit |
44:29 | | Neither heaven nor earth wept for them, nor were they allowed any respite |
44:30 | | We saved the Children of Israel from their humiliating tormen |
44:31 | | at the hands of Pharaoh: he was a tyrant who exceeded all bounds |
44:32 | | We knowingly chose them above all other peopl |
44:33 | | and showed them signs in which there was a clear test |
44:34 | | Yet those who deny the truth say |
44:35 | | there is nothing beyond our first death; we shall not be raised again |
44:36 | | So bring our fathers [back], if what you say is true |
44:37 | | Are they better than the people of Tubba and those who came before them? We destroyed them, because they were guilty of sin |
44:38 | | We did not idly create the heavens and the earth and all that lies between them |
44:39 | | We did not create them save with a purpose, yet most people have no knowledge of this |
44:40 | | Truly, the Day of Decision is the appointed time for all of them |
44:41 | | the Day when no friend shall be of the least avail to another, nor shall any be helped |
44:42 | | save those to whom God shows mercy. Surely, He is the Mighty, the Merciful One.[38] |
44:43 | | Surely the fruit of the Zaqqum tre |
44:44 | | shall be food for the sinners |
44:45 | | like the dregs of oil, it shall boil in their bellies |
44:46 | | like the boiling of hot water |
44:47 | | [A voice will cry], Seize him and drag him into the midst of Hell |
44:48 | | Then pour boiling water over his head as punishment |
44:49 | | Taste this; you who considered yourself the mighty, the honourable |
44:50 | | This is what you doubted |
44:51 | | But those mindful of God will be in a safe place |
44:52 | | among gardens and springs |
44:53 | | dressed in fine silk and in rich brocade, and they will face each other |
44:54 | | so it will be. We shall wed them to maidens with large, dark eyes |
44:55 | | They will call therein for every kind of fruit, in peace and security |
44:56 | | They will not taste death therein, save the first death. God will save them from the torment of Hel |
44:57 | | as an act of grace. That will be the supreme triumph |
44:58 | | We have made this Quran easy to understandin your own languageso that they may take heed |
44:59 | | Wait then; they too are waiting |
