| | Linda “iLHam” Barto rendition of Surah Explained in Detail, Revelations Well Expounded(Fussilat) --- |
---|
41:1 | | Ha. Meem. |
41:2 | | [This is] a revelation from the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. |
41:3 | | [It is] a Book in which the verses are explained in detail. [It is] a Qur’an in Arabic for people who understand. |
41:4 | | [It] provides good news and warnings. Most of them, however, turn away so they do not hear. |
41:5 | | They say, “Our hearts are veiled from that to which you invite us. A deafness is in our ears. A screen is between us and you. Do [what you will], and we will do [what we will].” |
41:6 | | Say, “I am only a man like you. It has been inspired to me that your God is One God, so stand true to Him. Ask for His forgiveness. Woe to those who join gods with Allah. |
41:7 | | [Woe to] those who do not practice required charity and who deny the hereafter. |
41:8 | | For those who believe and work righteous deeds, there is a reward that will never fail. |
41:9 | | Say, “Do you deny He who created Earth in two days? Do you equate others with Him? He is Lord of the Worlds. |
41:10 | | He set, on (the land), mountains standing firmly, high above it. He bestowed blessings on it, and He measured provisions upon it in four days, in accordance with those who seek. |
41:11 | | “He intended the sky, which was like smoke. He said to it and to Earth, ‘Come together, willingly or unwillingly.’ They said, ‘We come in obedience.’ |
41:12 | | “He completed the skies as seven layers, in two days, and He assigned to each [layer of] sky its purpose. We adorned this world’s sky with lights and protection. Such is the decree of the Victorious, the All-knowing.” |
41:13 | | If they reject, say, “I have warned you of a thunderous disaster like the disaster that overwhelmed the Ad and the Thamud.” |
41:14 | | Messengers came to them, from before them and behind them: “Serve no one but Allah.” They said, “If our Lord had wanted, He would certainly have sent down angels. Now we reject your ministry.” |
41:15 | | The Ad behaved arrogantly throughout the land, against what was right. They said, “Who is superior to us in strength?” Did they not see that Allah who created them was superior to them in strength? They rejected Our signs. |
41:16 | | We sent against them a furious wind through days of disaster so We could make them taste the torment of disgrace in this life. The penalty of the hereafter, however, will be even more humiliating. And they will find no help. |
41:17 | | We offered guidance to the Thamud, but they preferred blindness to guidance. The stunning punishment of humiliation seized them because of what they earned. |
41:18 | | However, We delivered those few who did believe and lived righteously. |
41:19 | | On the day that the enemies of Allah will be assembled for the fire, they will be assembled in rows. |
41:20 | | Finally, when they reach it, their hearing, their sight, and their skins will testify against them for their deeds. |
41:21 | | They will say to their skins, “Why do you testify against us?” They will answer, “Allah has made us able to communicate. He is the One who gives speech to everything. He created you for the first time, and unto Him you were to return. |
41:22 | | “You did not seek to hide yourselves, lest your hearing, your sight, and your skins should testify against you. Instead, you thought that Allah did not know many of the things that you used to do. |
41:23 | | “Your assumptions that you entertained, concerning your Lord, has ruined you, and now you are among the lost.” |
41:24 | | If they endure, the fire will be their residence. If they beg for favor, they will not be among those who receive favor. |
41:25 | | Further, we have destined for them companions who made their past and present [deeds] seem justifiable, but the sentence has already been passed against them, along with previous generations of spirit-beings and people. Indeed, they were losers. |
41:26 | | The unbelievers say, “Do not listen to this Qur’an, but interrupt it with noise so you can overpower it.” |
41:27 | | But We will certainly give the unbelievers a taste of a severe penalty, and We will reward them for the worst of their deeds. |
41:28 | | Such is the reward of the enemies of Allah! [It is] the fire in which will be their enduring home. It is the reward because they rejected Our signs. |
41:29 | | The unbelievers will say, “Our Lord, show us those among spirit-beings and people who misled us. We will crush them beneath our feet so that they become the most loathsome.” |
41:30 | | Consider those who say, “Our Lord is Allah,” and then continue in the right way. Angels descend on them: “Fear not, and do not grieve. Receive the glad tidings of Paradise, which you were promised. |
41:31 | | “We are your guardians in this life and in the hereafter. In [Paradise], you will have all that your souls desire. In it, you will have all that you request. |
41:32 | | “[That will be] a hospitable gift from the One who is Most Forgiving, Most Merciful.” |
41:33 | | Who is better in speech than one who invites others to Allah, performs righteousness, and says, “I am among those who submit to Allah”? |
41:34 | | Righteousness and evil cannot be equal. Repel [evil] with what is better, and then you may make an intimate friend of one with whom there was hatred. |
41:35 | | Such [harmony] will be granted to no one except those who exercise patience. No one finds such [harmony] except the truly blessed. |
41:36 | | If a provocation to discord is made to you by Satan, seek refuge in Allah. Indeed, He is the All-hearing, the All-knowing. |
41:37 | | Among His signs are the night and the day, the sun and the moon. Do not worship the sun or the moon, but worship Allah who created them if you wish to serve Him alone. |
41:38 | | Even though (the unbelievers) are arrogant, in the presence of your Lord are those who glorify Him night and day, and they never tire. |
41:39 | | Among His signs is that you see the barren, desolate earth, but, when We bestow rain upon it, it is aroused [back to life] and yields [harvest]. Truly, He who revives (the dead earth) can surely revive the deceased [people]. He has power over all things. |
41:40 | | Truly, those who distort Our Scriptures are not hidden from Us. Who is better –the one cast into the fire [of Hell] or the one who has safe passage on the Day of Judgment? Regardless of what you do, truly, He sees it all. |
41:41 | | Truly, there are those who do not believe in the reminder [of the Qur’an] when it comes to them. Indeed (the Qur’an) is a glorious Book. |
41:42 | | No corruption approaches it from before or after it. It is a revelation bestowed by the Perfectly Wise, the Praised One. |
41:43 | | Nothing is said to you [Prophet Muhammed] that was not said to messengers before you –truly, that the Lord possesses forgiveness as well as a horrific penalty. |
41:44 | | Had We sent this Qur’an in a foreign language [other than Arabic], people would have wondered, “Why are the verses in a language foreign [to the Arabs] when the messenger is an Arab?” Say, “It is a guide and a healing to those who believe, and for those who do not believe, there is unhearing in their ears and unseeing in their eyes. It is as if they were being called from a distant place.” |
41:45 | | We certainly gave Moses the Book, but arguments came up about it. If it had not been for a word earlier sent from your Lord, things would have been settled among them. They remained, however, in unsettling doubt about it. |
41:46 | | Whoever performs righteous deeds benefits his/her own soul. Whoever performs evil performs it to the detriment of his/her own soul. Your Lord is never unjust to His servants. |
41:47 | | The knowledge of the hour [of judgment] is with Him. No date fruit comes from its sheath, and no female conceives or gives birth without His knowledge. On that day, He will offer to them, “Where are the partners assigned to Me?” They will say, “We assure You that not one of us can bear witness.” |
41:48 | | That which they used to invoke will forsake them. They will realize they have no way of escape. |
41:49 | | Humanity never tires of asking for blessings, but if a crisis occurs, he/she abandons hope, lost in despair. |
41:50 | | When We give him/her a taste of mercy from Ourselves after some adversity has been endured, he/she is sure to say, “This [blessing] is my doing. I can’t believe that the hour will ever come, but if I do return to my Lord, surely goodness awaits me with Him.” We will show the unbelievers all that they did, and We shall make them experience a severe penalty. |
41:51 | | When We bestow blessings on humanity, he/she turns away and distances him-/herself; and, when evil grips him/her, he/she engages in elaborate prayer. |
41:52 | | Say, “Do you understand that this [Qur’an] is from Allah, and then you still reject it? Who is more astray than one who is in extreme defiance?” |
41:53 | | Soon We will show them Our signs in the horizons and within themselves until it becomes manifest to them that this is the truth. Is it not enough that your Lord witnesses all things? |
41:54 | | Are they really in doubt about the meeting with their Lord? Does He not truly encompass all things? |
